Help was packed in standing room only last night. I made a ROOKIE mistake by taking Barbarella GF there. The girls all talk to each other. You can only play at so many places here. Some general observations about Help---What a site watching Garotas dance and sing along to their favorite songs, holding their drinks up to the ceiling. More girls speak english then what´s been reported here, maybe i just got lucky , almost every girl speaks enough english to hold some conversation and many girls speak very good english. The little bit you might save is more than returned to me in the good time we have together, i beleive if you pay their price they will be in to you alot more and show you a better time. One thing i don´t understand is some have reported that the garotas don´t seem interested in picking up guys or that you go in to help with the attitude not caring if you meet a girl, just look and see if something works. Is help crowded with guys in March?

I totally agree with Wilco that it is a good idea to try not to get to excited/loud about sharing experiences when sitting around talking to the boys.

But I also think that very few naive tourists will ever sit in Meia Pataca or the cafe in front of Help for more than about 5 minutes and not have a very good idea of what is going on.

I remember sitting at Meia Pataca and a large family with young sons and daugthers sat and had a meal. A guy at another table was loudly regaling his pals "I fucked this one doggie and had her doing me this way and I switched them and we did this and that". I was both amused and embarassed for the family. Some of us get carried away with our unbelievable experiences.

I have seen March less crowded because the weather is starting to turn and some of the girls take off for Spain. Definately less crowded in the clubs. Actually a bit more condusive to mingling as the "piranhas" (aggressive girls) seem to relax.

Also, my thoughts on the negotiating is to try and keep it in the local currency. I never discuss us dollars at all. I do this in every country. Once they get a flavor for US, it is hard to convert them away and becomes more costly for us. The only place I saw that was normalized on USD was Caesar Park, but that is an international chain (and really should still be in reals also). I don't have any problem with paying more in their currency if I really like the girl, I just never want to pay in USD. Just my thoughts...

As long as you have a great time, then it doesn't matter what you pay. The only time you really need to be concerned about paying too much is if you travel to Rio multiple times a year. I travel to Rio between 5-10X a year, so I have to be real carefull with my finances. If you only go once a year than you can afford to splurge and pay top dollar.

Fooledagain: when that "no programa" girl suddenly asked for $, I would have opened the negotiation with zero. "But you said you weren't..." etc

Be warned of girls you meet in the known pick-up spots (Help, Meia Pataca, et al) who say they are non-programa. The claim will usually be accompanied by something like "I'm just having some money problems right now," possibly a story about a sick parent or whatever. This is a tip-off that they are playing for high stakes, like to be your travelling companion or even to get you to bring them to your home country.

Most of the ones who appear to know English know just enough to deal with you, but some know enough to hustle you and try to control the situation, so I've made it my practice to avoid them. I know enough Portuguese to get around, and when I'm out by myself I tell them I'm Italian and don't speak English. My two bad experiences in Rio involved girls with a certain fluency in English, and I feel that if that level of communication were not there they wouldn't have been able to run their bullshit on me.

Quoting prices in US dollars is another tip-off. Personally, I don't like to negotiate with pros, because if you get her to cut her rate, she may give a cut-rate performance (from my stateside experiences). When a Help girl said US$100 I gave her a nasty look and walked away; as I was doing so she called after me "buy me drinky." I have the impression that posting the Real-Dollar exchange rate in Help's ticket window works against us. My take on it (as I've posted elsewhere in Hombre) is that by quoting in dollars anywhere (restaurant, hotel, garota) you can be sure you are paying the special price for tourists. Once in Costa Rica the clerk at a brothel (my bad Spanish gave me away) told me the price was "US$20 or 5,000c" which was around US$15 at the time.

What happened in those two experiences you mentioned? I know there are a number of girls who come to the states to strip and work on the side, when they return to Rio, it is impossible to get them for 100R.

I was in Help last night about 1AM. The ratio was about 1 to 1 in terms of girls to guys, but most of the guys were just standing around so there were plenty of unattached girls. Perhaps you were thinking of Rio Antigo. I had some good luck there (especially before 5) and the facilities are brand new and immaculate. I haven't heard anyone say much nice about Aeroporto although I do not have any personal experience to share on that particular club.

I guess I just got confused..plus it was only a 5 minute walk from the airport after I dropped Pauliana off. Oh well it was still good..I just like going into a terma and wanting at least 5 off the bat...
