Welcome to garota de programa hell.
This is a capital city near Recife and Natal, with pretty beaches, a sleey relaxed lifestyle, and a very manageable city in terms of safety, traffic, and cost.
The tourist area is Tambau, followed by Cabo Branco and Manaira. Manaira has all the shopping centers and where you'll find the patricinhas shopping.
BUT, this is Paraiba. A very small and conservative state where prostitution is generally looked down on and considered more shameful than the rest of Brazil.
What does that mean?
No boate, no termas whatsoever in the entire city. I mean it.
There are a few "casas" with 2-5 girls. I tried 3 (they advertise in the paper) and found utterly heinous girls. If the girls pooled their money and paid me, I couldn't bear to fuck them.
There are 10-15 maximum street walking hookers near the beach. Again, maybe 2-3 doable, and that's dropping my standards quite a bit.
The problem here is the same problem faced in other like cities like Sergipe, Maceio (home), etc. Everyone knows everyone. So even if you want to hook, the shame of it all is just too much.
Oh, and Joao Pessoa is probably one of the most boring and unremarkable towns I've run across in Brazil. Come only if you want to stare at the ocean and sip coconuts.

BB, thanks for the info. I figured if I ever went to visit Fernando de Noronha? I would have to pass thru JP to get there:-(

TO go to Fernando de Noronha, you pass thru Recife (the island is part of Pernambuco State, go figure), so not to worry.

The discos are all closed except on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
There are exactly 4 discos in this town, one of them being frequented by gays. Which leaves 3, all of them have a 10-15R cover...which means only the upper class kids go. This is a fairly small social circle (they all know each other), so while you'll meet lots of friends, I had absolutely no luck in carrying them to bed from this town. But I didn't stay that long.
Easier are the beach girls, forro parties, etc like the rest of the Nordeste I'm sure.

Ah, I remember when I told you how dull of a town it was you refused to believe it!
On the other hand, I was down at beach/fishing village one day (I forget the name, starts with a J) in the off season and a sweet but toothless old puta introduced herself to me.
