Anyone know anything about this subject? I was just introduced to my "daughter?" last week.

I would be careful in returning to Colombia if you forsee any problems with this-you might just be denied permission to leave. She can advise the Colombian authorities and require you to have a DNA test once the baby arrives provided you are in Colombia. If the test is positive you will, in all probability, be required to pay child support as determined by a Colombian family court.

A DNA test is cheap and, if you have ANY doubts you are the father take the test. Other than that, IMHO, you have an absolute obligation to support the child.

Dude, I am not going to tell you how to run your life or anything, but I too have a child in Colombia. He is mine, I had the test and to tell you the truth I love him very much! I am not going to bring his mother to the US or anything like that, and in fact I still consider myself single and a "monger." But the fact that I had a hook-up in Colombia with a woman isn't his fault. He deserves to grow up, know his dad and have a decent life, and I am going to make that all happen.

Again, while trying to avoid telling you what to do in your own life, I would like to throw out the idea of taking responsbility if she really is yours. If you have the power, maybe you'll feel good about yourself if you show your face every once in a while, and send the money for her to live in a decent neighborhood and go to a good school. In Colombia, it isn't much money at all that you need to get stuff like that done.

Just a thought, and I don't at all intend to preach...

I appreciate the good advice from my two fellow warriors above. In an interesting twist, the lab reports that I am "excluded" as being the father. My amiga is really upset and genuinely confused as she swears (and I believe her) that she never had unprotected sex with anyone else in the last four years. I'm inclined to write it off as a "condom accident" and let it go. The kid is cute, looks just like the baby pictures I've seen of my amiga. I might decide to have a "voluntary" relationship with the nina, like a "godfather" or something. I care alot about my amiga and don't want to end a good thing over this. Besides she is probably the sexiest woman I've ever known.

Thanks for letting us know about the Colombian law in these type of situations,Gator..
On a lighter note, wish i had known about this before. several times I had wanted to stay a few days more ,but could never come up with a reason that people at work would have believed.
If I had told them that I could not leave Colombia until I had finished with a DNA test, EVERYONE would have believed that!!!!!!!!

For the record, the mother of my child is not a "pro" unless you count cleaning houses as a profession.
