Can anyone tell me what the latest prices for the Rio Roiss hotel? Also what is the difference between the standard rooms and the luxury rooms? Is the price difference worth it?

You get charged R$160 or $170 for double room instead of R$200.
Luxury room might be a suite.

Those pics are of the room I had late May. The charge was R160 per night and R50 for "guest charges" if you bring any back from help. They will normally hit you up for R20 cash after they check her ID and it wont go on your bill. Sometimes R30. The rooms are a bit dated but clean, has a safe for R2 per day, the staff is friendly, and they have a free breakfast before 11 am. I normally go for the terma girls and dont usually bring anything back from help. If you like help girls, you may want to consider an apartment and save a little money.

no it is not important, i was just kidding around. it looked a little bit like the logo from dewey weber surfboards....never mind!

Don was informed the Rio RIoss is no longer girl friendly as of July 15,03. If you need help with other accomodations, let us know.

What is this...a trend? First the Debret, now the Rio Roiss?! This sucks bigtime!
By Riotrips on Friday, July 18, 2003 - 02:45 pm: Edit |
The new Veja magazine (local Rio guide)came out and listed the Debret and the Rioss as girl friendly, so they cancelled their policy to avoid loss of non-monger business. I think they will regret it by the volume of mongers we know stay at both places.
We´re suggesting the Orla or the Princess Copacabana as alternative hotels.

Has this happened before? A little public attention is created and the places batten down the hatches for a while and then it blows over?
Not sure if the Help girls are going to be happy about these hotel changes though. Sounds like apartments are the way to go now.
By Coats001 on Saturday, July 19, 2003 - 11:13 am: Edit |
Guess they figured the lost in monger customers with the new policy would be smaller then the lost in non-monger guests for being a know monger friendly Hotel.
It is just business.

I just got back today. I stayed at the Debret 11th - 14th and then moved to the Roiss 15th - 20th. I had no problems at all. Debret said it was an R50 fee, but they never charged my bill. Roiss was R50 as well, but would take R20 cash if she didn't stay all night. Also, Roiss will give a low season discount if you walk in and ask. They may publicly be "officially" non-garota friendly, but I didn't notice any change.
By Cueball on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 - 11:24 pm: Edit |
Robe Warrior,
How much did you pay at the Roiss? How much do you think they will charge for the low season rate? I am planning for a Labor day Rio trip. If I book online it comes to around 55.00 to 60.00 usd including all taxes. I'm always looking to save.
By RobeWarrior on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 - 12:52 pm: Edit |
I paid R110 + 5% tax. It's normally R150 or R160 + 5%. I was at the Debret for R182 (tiny room) and stopped by the Roiss to see what they could do. The front desk clerk offered me R110 so I moved.

Is Rio Roiss still non-garota friendly?
By Soprano on Saturday, August 16, 2003 - 02:22 pm: Edit |
Hey RobeWarrior..
So let me get this right. You are confirming that the Debret still alows guests and they did not even charge you any additional ??
I am just curious....did you register and pay as a double ?
Thanks.
By Riotrips on Saturday, August 16, 2003 - 08:47 pm: Edit |
The Roiss is back on the girl friendly program.
As for the Debret, since ALL of our future guests have cancelled, I haven't been in to inquire. I'll do so ASAP

Well, it didn't take the Roiss long to reverse policy! I'm sure the Debret will cave in as well. How many room nights per week do you think they're losing, either from guys who use you or read the boards and cancel or never book in the first place, and from other guys who find out after they check in and try to bring a girl back the first night and check out the next day?
By Soprano on Sunday, August 17, 2003 - 12:34 am: Edit |
Thanks Don..appreciate any updated and accurate info.
By RobeWarrior on Sunday, August 17, 2003 - 09:27 pm: Edit |
Soprano, I had no problems on the dates I was there. I registered as a single at the Debret and when I brought a girl back they told me it would be R50. However, the charge didn't show up on my bill. Maybe they made a mistake, I don't know. Until someone reports that the Debret or the Roiss actually prevented a girl from staying, I can't help but be skeptical of the new "policy".
By Riotrips on Monday, August 18, 2003 - 01:00 pm: Edit |
Just called the Debret. According to reception they will NOT allow guests into your room. We moved a number of guests when they found out personally a few weeks ago they could not enter. I'm relaying what they said.

Don..what hotels are accepting guests and what are the fees, if any ?
I am getting conflicting reports.
Also, Princess Copacabana charging R$60. per guest ?? That is absurd !
What reccomendations do you have ?
Thank you.

Thanks for the info Don. I'll avoid the Debret in the future. RW

I am staying at the Hio Hoiss, and it seems OK, and is right in the middle of the action. I don't know if that is a good thing or not, though.
By Buffer on Friday, October 03, 2003 - 11:43 am: Edit |
I checked out the Rio Roiss today for a future trip. Rooms are much better than the Savoy Othon. The front desk indicated that with a double reservation a guest would not be a problem.
By Explorer8939 on Saturday, October 04, 2003 - 07:48 am: Edit |
Guests are definitely not a problem at the Rio Roiss, just make sure you pay for 'duplo' for your room. Reception will check in any garota you bring to the hotel, and call you when she leaves to make sure everything is OK.
There is a laundry shop around the corner from the Rio Roiss, and an Internet cafe the other direction.
By Brazil_Specialist on Tuesday, October 07, 2003 - 03:18 am: Edit |
From what I know, Rio Roiss backpedalled from their girl prohibition policy. Now they allow girls again.
Of course, how can you get by with only one girl at a time???
By Indsol on Monday, July 10, 2006 - 05:56 am: Edit |
Rio Roiss Hotel is O.K.
I stayed there in standard room from June 10 to 12 2006. The normal rate is R$ 200; but offered me at R$ 140 plus 15% tax.
Mr. Edmara Luz, the Manager is friendly and helpful.
Identity of visitors invited by room guests are quietly verified at Reception.
The procedure is good and safe for the guests.
The guest may of course attract an additional charge of R$ 50.
Good complementary breakfast at roof top Restaurant. Copacabana beach is visible from the Restaurant.
Good place for quiet and pleasant stay.
