i been e-mailng riorentals4less about july prices on an apartment $60. u.s was the price i got for the one i want been there last year in oct. it was cheaper last year i kinda wanted what is the going price for a nice apartment on the off season ? bye the way this is not a bad take on john .he went out of his way last time i was there and took care of all my needs i just wanted to know whats prices we are all getting on apartments

John's prices are not set in concrete, he will only charge what he thinks he can get from you. Offer him 50/night, remind him that its low season right now.

Rentals vary by time of the year and what you get, I have paid $40 a night to $80 depending on the time of the year, location and the number of bedrooms. I always stayed in Copacabana and I have not used riorentals4less but I have had good experiences with Don & Kenn.

I just picked a place to stay and have to say that both Rhonda/Don and Kenn have some good places open right now. Kenn dug up an apartment just off of Viscondi de Paraja (Ipanema) for about 160 reals a night, and Rhonda has two places open, one the real nice 2 bedroom apartment right off of Miguel Lemos, behind Help, and another up by SF_Hombre's apartment behind Mondego. I would advise contacting Rhonda and Kenn to see what they have.

I use a Brazilian agency that I ran into when I was in Rio. When I need an apartment, I write to them in Portuguese. I pay them $30-35 a night for a 1 bedroom apartment. Next time you are in Rio and if you can speak a little Portuguese, try some Brazilian agencies in an area of Rio that you like. The American-run rental agencies are convenient, and I used them on my early trips to Rio. If you are English-only, use the American-run agencies. They are a great convenience. However, the American agencies will oftentimes turn to the Brazilian agencies, if they need a specific apartment, and they will tack on an extra $10-20 to the cost of the apartment to cover their commission. I have nothing against this, and they provide a great service. However, if you can speak and even write decent Portuguese, try a Brazilian agency, cut out the middleman and get apartments for less.
