These are some impressions from my last trip to BA for two weeks in August 2004. It was my second extended trip, third overall. The price of goods and services has increased somewhat over the last two years due to inflation and a decline in the dollar, although at 3 pesos per dollar I still think the country is an incredible bargain. The cost of goods made in Argentina or services is well below where they were prior to the 2001 devaluation. Imports are priced internationally. The "winter" weather was beautiful. I know I got lucky but honestly winter in BA is not that cold. I went two weeks without rain. The worst it will do is 45-50 degrees with some humidity. I had plenty of days with 60-65 degree sunny weather. Reminded me of Southern Cal winters. On occasion colder.
Chicas and clubs have changed since my first visit two years ago. Since I can't remember names very well I will just post general impressions. In the triangle, Ness, Cattos and Hook, I found Cattos to be the best. There were better quality chicas and a more relaxed environment. I thought Ness was hit and miss, although I developed a repeater out of there. Hook was mostly a miss for me. Although some disparage the quality of these clubs I like them due to their ambience. The whole approach is a lot more low key than Recoleta and much easier to develop a rapport with the chicas. If you don't mind that the girls are somewhat older on average (24-30), more likely to have kids and less strikingly beautiful than say Madahos, these are good places. Expect to pay Ar$150. Also downtown I had luck at Orleans during the day. At some points when stopping in during the week there were 20-25 girls. I liked this option because the late nights get to me and I am not always able to perform up to the standard I expect. Cutty Sark on Reconquista was dissapointing every time I visited. I have noticed a significant fall off at this club. Jazz across the street was at best so-so. I would strongly recommend the triangle before these clubs.
In Recoleta I think Madahos has taken over the upper end of the market. I went to Black's twice and each time found the quality was way down. The number of chicas was high but there was not anything special about the place. IMHO you could have found, broadly speaking, similar quality in any of the clubs. There were exceptions, a few stunners, but the memories of Black as a place to ogle the 21yo model wannabees is just that. Madahos has volume and quality although I confess it is too loud and crowded for my taste. I took a brunette from here for AR$250 and had a good experience at my hotel. Affaire seemed about the same. A wide range of chicas (20+) and not many guys. I didn't take anything from here.
I also explored some other clubs in other areas that have been reported on in this page. I liked Envidia best in Flores, though I also visited Doly's and Liza's across the street. I thought Salome and Affaire Pueyrredon were pretty good local boliches. (I couldn't help but wonder what would happen in a fire at Salome though. The people trapped downstairs in the pirate ship would be screwed.) My favorite though was Estilo Nuevo in Belgrano. I liked the atmosphere, regular chica shows, the price of beers, and the crowd of chicas. There are plenty of young ones here and everything else too. I went twice and had great experiences both times at the short time hotel next door.
So, to wrap up I think the BA talent pool is a little different than two year's ago. Probably due to economic exodus to Spain and Europe. Nevertheless, I still think given its cultural activities, food, shopping and nightlife it is a great destination for a vacation.
