I found some interesting information regarding new one time use digital camera's. I have been somewhat concerned about taking my $400+ digital camera with me to Brazil and possibly losing it or have it stolen.
These one time use camera's might be great options - a new one offered by CVS even has a color screen for around $20.00
Here is an article:

Unfortunately I have not been able to find one down here in South Florida (CVS is taking over Eckerd Drugs in the Florida market)

You should not have so much concern. All the stories of people having problems with digi cameras are either due to careless handling at the beach (which is a wide definition) or careless behaviour in the apartment (not locking it up, drinking the wrong drink).
Not much different than in the U.S. actually.

Notice that nowhere do they extoll the technical features of the camera, such as how many megpixels, etc. For that price you'll get a piece of shit that delivers pictures that are probably worse than what you'd get from a cheapo disposable film camera. And you still have to send this one in to the CVS folks for printing, so there goes one chief advantage of a digital camera!
If you're concerned about your $400 camera, buy a $200 one to take. There are plenty on the market in the $150-$250 range that deliver reasonable photos. Or better yet, find a better quality DC on the used camera market for even less. I bought a Canon Powershot S500 (5.1 mp) used for $210 from a guy who keeps buying the newest camera and selling his old ones. It's a very compact camera that delivers great pix, and is small enough to sneak into the termas in the robe pocket.
