Well, I am off to Rio this weekend and noticed that it was about time for Brazil to switch to Summer Time. According to my Trusty scheduler, Brazil (or at least Rio and the east) moves to Summer time this weekend.
Can someone confirm this for me? My girl is supposed to pick me up and I think that she might be waiting for me an extra hour.
This is what I have:
GMT never changes although UK moves to BST (GMT + 1) on last Sunday of March and returns to GMT on Last Sunday of October
Rio is Summer Time (GMT – 2) from the 2nd Sunday in October (this weekend) to the 3rd Sunday in March
US is Summer time from 1st Sunday in April to last Sunday in October.
So today, 10/6/2004 Rio is 1 hour ahead of EST, from Sunday on it will be 2 hours ahead because of Rio summer time until 10/30 when the US moves to standard time and Rio is then 3 hours ahead.

Whatever time your flight itinerary says you arrive is when you arrive, local time.

Maybe I have the wrong weekend for Summer Time, I checked again for the following week and according to AA that's when there is a time change.
Not important, I'll check it out elsewhere too.

Dood, are you sure? I've check a number of places now and it is not consistant! AA agrees with you but I have also seen dates from this weekend to mid November. Right now, it could be any of the next 4 weekends from what I have seen.
As a compromise, I am going to have my girl pick me up around 9:00 if there is no time change, else I will wait 45 minutes until I see her.

Down,
If American says you arrive at GIG at 9:00 A.M., that's when you get in, barring delays.
Right now, EST, Brasil is one hour ahead. When they go to daylight savings time (3rd Sunday in October, the 17th this year), they will be two hours ahead. Then, at the end of October when we fall back to standard time, Brasil will be 3 hours ahead of EST.

The critical issue here is that you are actually having your girlfriend pick you up when you arrive. For the love of all things pure and holy, you should be there for at least half your trip before hooking up w/her.

Maybe she is understanding like mine are. Tereza and Fernanda picked me up at GIG last trip, I spent two days with them. Then I went off cavorting with others for a week, and hooked up with them again overnight and got a ride back to GIG. Such are the pleasures of Brazil.

Gotta strongly agree with Deeg on this one.

Brazil's daylight savings time is delayed until Nov. 2 this year apparently because of mayoral elections (don't understand the connection, but that is what i read in Brazlian paper yesterday).

Yeah.. confirmed.. they did this a couple years ago too.. I just think it's really odd that they're going to do a time change on a TUESDAY..
these fuckers freak me out sometimes...

When I first was searching for when Brazil changed its DST, there were some comments about how they change when it starts every year.
There was even a Microsoft support KB article on how to change your registry settings in Windows to change when DST started on your Windows clock.
