the best churrasco and service I ever had in Sampa:
Fogo de Chao
Av. dos Bandeirantes, 538
Vila Olimpia, Sao Paulo

I have eaten there and it is very good. There are other branches of this chain throughout the city, including one near the domestic airport, that are IMHO comparable.

I agree with LA Guy. Fogo do Chao is good but it's kind of a chain with restaurants also here in the US (Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, etc). Last time in SP, I went to the Montana Grill in Itaim which was also very good and CHEAP!

Anyone know about a restaurant in SP that has a big tree inside? It was recommended to me but the person who told me about it did not know its name.

Also, any feedback about whether it is worth visiting or any other info? Something tells me I have read about it here on this site, but I don't remember where.

Moondog should know? I think I went to dinner with him there once before? Very close to the Renaissance.

Moondog raves about Ecco restaurant.. Could that be the one? He mentions the hostess is unreal there.

I thought it was probably Moondog who mentioned it once. And the person who recommended the place to me (on an airplane) mentioned the hostess or hostesses there. I'll have to check it out.

Ecco does not have the tree in it, but any hotel will tell you where it is. Just mention the tree inside the restaurant.

With regard to Ecco, I could not take my eyes off of the hostesses. They are babes. They may have been changed by now, but it is a trendy reataurant, visited by the people who want to see and be seen.

I had a chance to go to Bargacao the bahian restaurant. The Moqueca (spelling it wrong) was the best i have ever had.. Its pricey but worth it in my mind.

restaurant in SP that has a big tree inside:
I think you will find the restaurant at the end of R. Haddock Lobo (close to metro Consolacao)

Restaurant with the 'big tree inside'? That's Figueroa ("Fig Tree") which is located in Jardins about a block from Rua Oscar Freire in the 'high rent' district. It is also right across the street from Esplanada Grill (amazing churrascaria) and Fasano (the best Italian restaurant in SP and the most expensive).

another great churrascaria is barbacoa..better than fogo do Chao (IMHO)

for italian i go to famiglia mancini (rua avanhandava #81 (11-3256-4320)

Since I posted my earlier question about the "fig tree restaurant" (A Figueira Rubaiyat) I visited it (it is on Haddock Lobo) and also Fasano, Gero and Cafe Antique, all within a few blocks of each other.

Fasano is now my favorite restaurant in Sao Paulo, but expect to spend around $100 US per dinner. Gero and Cafe Antique are also very good, with Gero (Italian Food) a bit more to my tastes. A Figueira Rubaiyat while having a nice atmosphere was disappointing overall. The food was not very good, and also, they receive kickbacks from Visa to inconvenience their customers by only taking Visa credit cards, nothing else other than cash. Their sister restaurants, the two Baby Beef Rubaiyat's, also follow this terrible business practice.
