well i've been reading over your discussions for about a week, and i am impressed. this summer i am planning to go to buenos aires (and the rest of argentina eventually) to hobby. is this still a good place to go? i am looking particularly for a good exchange rate with the dollar...college student, so tight budget... is somewhere else in south/latin america better for a greenhorn?

If you're on a budget, man, you gotta get to South East Asia. It's one of the few places on the planet where you really can get by on 20 dollars a day (ten if you're careful).
I know that Southern Argentina is way too expensive. I've a pal who visits Colombia on a regular basis. He's convinved it's the best value in the new world.

Patagonia is expensive. BA is not as cheap as it was two years ago, but still a bargain by most standards. The exchange rate is about 2.9 pesos per dollar. Minimum price to hobby is 100-150pesos, with the average in the 200peso range.
Rooms at clean but basic hotels go for 90 pesos, breakfast and tax included.

I´´m BA now and it can be expensive. Depends on where you go. I like the club scene and Orleans so I end up paying $200ar and I don´t bargain much so it can be expensive. But for me the beauty is here as I don´t care for asian girls even though I´m asian
