For you guys that want to party in privacy with more than one woman and no hassles checking in at the hotel desk, I suggest getting an apartment. The best one is a www.cartagenacondos.com. It is right across the street from the beach. There are minimal persons hassling you about buying trinkets that you don't need.
A 3,000-5,000 mil pesos cab ride gets you to El Centro and the Laguito area. Better yet do some walking and see some things. I don't have problems walking around at night but I don't suggest anyone do it. More things to see, especially "chicas" , when you walk.

I stayed there over new years. Mark gave me a smoking price for "his" apt on the 11th floor. The apt is the one on the website with the neon and stuff.
The apt is located on Santander which is the main road from the airport. It is about 10 minute walk to El Centro. The building was very laid back when I was there. I had my own chica so I can't speak to the management and guest policy. Although my feeling is that there wouldn't be a problem.
The apt was on the 11th floor and had a nice view from the balacony. Unfortunately, the pics of the apt on the website are very stale as the apt was in need of some maintance. The A/C worked well, there was hot water, a washing machine, and refrigerator. If you like to use anything but a microwave in the kitchen, this isn't the place. The stove didn't work, when I turned the gas valve on, gas filled the kitchen w/out the stove being on. The door to the bathroom was just a door. No door knob, or even a hole for the door knob. The apt. had an internet modem, but no computer. I was able to use my vonage phone modem though.
In summary, for the price I paid during the high season, this was adequate. It met my basic needs. But, this wouldn't be my first choice in the future.

I will not be in Mark's apt. specifically. But I will be in some units next to each other in the building.
It will be $50 for a 1bdroom apartment during Semana Santa. This will be my first time in Cartagena.
How is the location the apt.? Is it near nightlife, good restaurants? I am trying to debate going with Juan Ventura for $150/night on 2 bdroom in Laguito or 1 bdromm $50 with Mark in Cabrero.
It will be 2 of us travelling to Cartagena.

Its not near the night life or restaurants, but most apts aren't near the night life in Ctg, its on the beach road between the airport and the Old City.
Nighlife etc is just a short taxi ride away, about 4,000 pesos.
You can walk to the Old City in the day, but at night I would always recomend a taxi, as the neighbourhood is so so.

I would agree with Hunter about the location. During the day it is a nice walk to the old city. At night it is probably ok, but not worth the risk.
I prefer el laguito myself. But it depends on your budget. If you plan to pull some chicks from the beach el laquito is by far a much better choice. Plus during semana santa el laquito is full of hot chicas.
Good luck!

Taboojw, I just re-read your post, $150 seems a bit expensive for a two bedroom, unles it is something special.
A good 2 bedroom apt in Easter in Laguito should set you back $100 or less, maybe Juan is mostly booked up, there are other agents as well in Laguito or elsewhere, I would check their prices as well and see what you can get.

Taboojw, Juan's been experiencing high bookings lately, but he's always been a straightshooter w/me and won't rip you off. I actually stayed in most of Juan's and Mery's apts at one time or another and mostly of them are nice, but IMO I would not pay $150/night. A buddy and I actually went during Easter a while back, I think we paid higher than normal rates w/Juan, but about $100 for the penthouse with 5 rooms. If it's your first trip, I'd also recommend the Laguito area; then again, even if I stay in Laguito I take the taxi for the 7 blocks since its so hot and I usually want to make a beeline to the hotel with the chica.

I have come to conclusion..since its my first time in Cartagena...I should experience Cartagena by staying in Laguito.

$ 120 still a tad high, but I guess it is simple supply and demand, but I would keep looking. Just my two cents
