Can anyone recommend apartment options in Ipanema?
I've already checked with David, Bobby, Ken... what's the next tier of options?
Thanks!

I have recently only been dealing with Marcos at http://www.rioflatrentals.com.br/ you can try him. He is a little expensive so I am always on the lookout for other options, but they are professional, helpful, have nice luxury apartments in ipanema and leblon and speak very good english.

Gr8ter, these apartments look very nice. Do you have any idea what the range of pricing is for a 2 bedroom in any of their locations? Thanks.

Tight,
I have rented probably 6 or 7 different places, mostly one bedrooms though. For a very nice one bedroom it runs around 65 usd to 80 usd or so per night in ipanema and slightly higher in leblon. for the few two bedrooms i have rented i have paid around 150 dollars and up per night, but these are the nicest luxury doorman buildings with daily maid service, etc. in ipanema and leblon. they always quote prices in usd. please keep in mind that these guys are not necessarily "monger friendly" and cater mostly to families, etc. from what i have seen. most of the guys who work there are gay too for some reason, but all highly educated and speak english very well.

Anyone know of a 1 bedroom hotel/apartment that is guest friendly and has internet.
By Hustler on Sunday, February 26, 2006 - 02:10 am: Edit |
Man, it is fucking insane what you guys pay for an apartment. I rented the penthouse studio atop Bob's building(across from Help) for $1000R + utilities. Didn't need a fiador...just left a deposit of one month.

Sounds very interesting? How long did you rent the place for? Do you have any pics you can share of the place? WHo did you rent thru?

Apartment/Hotel? Not alot of mention about this type of place. I'm going to be in Rio for 2 weeks in August, first week with a buddy and hope to stay in an apartment. The second week I'm solo and would like a hotel. Anyone have any comments on this apartment/hotel? Would this type of place be guest friendly?
By Thumper on Sunday, June 04, 2006 - 01:07 pm: Edit |
Looks really nice, but make sure you find out about the guest policy, before you book the room. Nothing worse than being charged for a place, where you cant bring any girls to.
Looks like it is in the vicinity of the Atlantico Hotel, I havent stayed there in a while, but its a decent place and no guest fee. (Just in case your hotel doesnt allow guest)

SPAM ALERT. First three posts from Nupiter dumped on this site today are all SPAM.
By Exectalent on Monday, May 21, 2007 - 04:37 pm: Edit |
Why is listing a site that has apartments for rent spam? Agree that a view into a favela is not the best marketing approach, but doesn't the guy have a right to advertise?
Hotel prices are $100 and up. However, what does seem out of line is the deposit.
By Laguy on Monday, May 21, 2007 - 05:05 pm: Edit |
Although members of the site who have track records providing good information about mongering sometimes later advertise and are tolerated here for doing so, someone whose first three posts are advertisements (without even acknowledging in some of those posts that the website he is referencing is his own) is using this site inappropriately. I suspect and hope his advertisements will be ignored and he will go away.

Nupiter,
Are you the owner of these apartments or an agent? Inquiring minds want to know!
By Snooky on Monday, May 21, 2007 - 07:10 pm: Edit |
He paid his annual dues and posted his info in South America: Brazil: Rio de Janeiro: Hotels/Lodging: . I don't see this as spam.
By Gcl on Monday, May 21, 2007 - 08:29 pm: Edit |
I dont see this as spam. Try to look past it because I know the apartments and have rented them myself. I think they are good deals. As some people have noted, if you know Rosie, these are the same one she manages for the owner and as a friend of Rosie you can get a better rate. So what? Go easy on the guy. He may be able to help a few Hombre members out.

I gotta disagree. It's SPAM. People selling or touting shit need to FULLY, and EXPLICITLY disclose their business relationship FIRST. Then DO NOT make misleading posts. THEN they are not SPAM.
If they contribute beyond mere shilling, THEN they are valued community members.
Dave the Rave is not a spammer.
BrazilSpecialist is not a spammer.
Don and his crew are not spammers.
All of the above have NEVER hidden their commercial interests but contribute greatly to the board.
Nupiter, until he proves otherwise, is a useless spammer.
My two cents... If someone has to resort to deception or distractions, then their goods are not good enough to buy. Caveat emptor.
By Brazil_Specialist on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 - 04:47 am: Edit |
thanks for removing me from the spammer category, smitopher.
A question for you guys. Can you give me a general overview of
a) prices for smaller cheaper apartments and cheaper hotels nowadays
b) price development over the last few years of apartments and hotel rooms.
I have held out with US$ 50 and US$ 60 for several years now. It used to be R$ 150, now it is barely R$ 100. I wonder if I am too cheap.
My price used to be equal to the very cheapest ocean front apartments, higher then simple one bedrooms.
I know, I only offer suites with private bath room, but it has excellent air-con, excellent R$ 1000++ box-spring mattresses (one of them king size), excellent internet access and IP telephone, and of course, excellent mongering and safety advice whenever I am available, which is most of the time, and a huge varanda.
Ok, after the self aggrandizing spam, my question again: please give me a general overview of the pricing history of lower end daily rental prices, especially of known English speaking people like Ken and Bobby and the like.
I am sure that price discussion will be of general interest, too.
By the way, I posted reports about "Rio safety for the paranoid", Miss Brazil and carnival queen Pageant photos, cheap brothels. Plan on posting about "Micareta: off season carnival howto", "why not buy apartments or do business in Brazil".
So much for producing content other then spam!! Unfortunately I have a hard time myself locating these posts.

Hey BS,
Don't you live in Rio? Shouldn't it be pretty easy to find out by asking folks there?
But to give you one piece of data, I have rented a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment very close to yours (within a block, and same distance from the beach). It has cable, DSL, full kitchen, and a washing machine. AC in all rooms. It was thoroughly remodeled about 18 months ago. It goes for $60/night.
By bluelight on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 - 08:36 am: Edit |
BS, I rented a 1 bedroom apart/hotel last year with everything you have for $500 for the week. It was on the same road as your place a block from L and top floor, I could see the water. Elevator stoped on my floor, no stairs to climb.
By Brazil_Specialist on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 - 11:41 am: Edit |
Branquinho, I could call Ken and Bobby, of course. I will do so
But you guys who always rent apartments are well informed, unlike me who never rents apartments. So your opionion is very useful.
You rented the apartment 18 months ago? Or recently? The dollar dropped probably 30% in the last 18 months.
Bluelight, your apartment probably did not have the free advisor and translator included, but I got your point. 75 dollars a day, aprox.
Did you guys observe that prices did remain constant in dollars, over the last 3 years? or did they remain constant in Reals??
By Branquinho on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 - 12:47 pm: Edit |
BS-
No, the price on the place is still $60 despite the decline of the dollar. The owner is brasileiro but is smart enough to realize that increasing prices by 30% could lead to a 50% decrease in business, while keeping them steady could increase business enough to compensate for the change in exchange rate.
I assume you meant Kenn (rather than Ken), but check with Don and Ken as well.
Hotel rates have been pretty stable because most business is with locals.

I have been renting the same LARGE one bedroom beachfront apartment for the past 7 years ($55/night) It has AC,cable TV and a stereo system. 2 blocks from Help and the best thing about it, is the incredible view of Copa Beach! ( I love seeing the girls faces when they walk in and see the view)
When I first started staying there, the exchange rate was 2/1. Over the years, I never tried to negociate in reais when the rate went up to 4/1, I just continued to pay 55US a night. I will be staying there again in 2 weeks and the owner is still charging me 55/night.

i was thinking about staying at this place. does anyone have any recommendations?

I've never heard of it before and the web site is VERY suspicious. There's no information, no phone number to call nor apartment listings. I'd stay away, it probably a scam, trying to sabotage or steal business away from http://www.ez-riorentals.com/ which is a very good company to deal with.
By Johnnyroc on Friday, July 03, 2009 - 06:07 am: Edit |
www.vrbo.com ......plenty of Rio temperados.
By Joejoe27 on Friday, July 03, 2009 - 06:15 pm: Edit |
Thanks for the tip downandup. I was worried that it might be a scam. Also, they require a 50% deposit.

I rented from ez-riorentals.com on numerous occasions, never a problem.

EZ-riotentals.com is Kenn, so all good. This other site Joejoe mentions is not the same outfit.
By Brazil_Specialist on Sunday, July 05, 2009 - 04:10 am: Edit |
http://www.ez-riorentals.com/ Kenn was always a good guy, so until I hear otherwise, he can be recommended.
http://www.blameitonrio4travel.com/ Bobby seems a good guy, too. He rents apartments, has a real store and travel services, I already bought airline tickets from him, he has good prices (well at other occasions I bought elsewhere, it is always good to shop around. But for one stop shopping with a trustworthy English speaker, it is a good bet)
Compare their prices, I am always curious to know.
