Rio in the Winter

How is Rio in the fall/winter (May-Sept)? Is this a quiet period or are there a lot of northern hemisphere tourists because it's our winter? Are fewer garotas working, is there less crime, are room rates lower?

It's night time early like 5:00 pm so not easy to get used to when you come from northern hemisphere and used to spring time.
Definitely less garotas.
Less crime? probably not.
Rooms rates are always high in Rio.

Apartments are lower but not much. A lot of garotas go to Europe to work during their summer. Still a lot of touists there too.
