July 24th - 27th is Fortal!
http://verdesmares.globo.com/fortal/
I'll be Fortaleza for a few weeks, likely beginning mid-July and leaving late July.
Anyone interested in partying? I usually like to mix it up between pros and non-pros, and am usually a pretty chill guy to hang with. I'm also going to be checking out some real estate while I'm there.

I just read a fascinating academic article written by a PHD from PUC Campinas on relationships between "clients" and program girls in Fortaleza.
Highlights include...
LOTS of marriages and "relationships" between european "clients" and brazilian program girls...probably at a much higher rate than between American guys and Brazilian girls
many italians/germans/dutch/europeans spend enormous amounts of time and money in "courting" the local girls...including buying gifts, sending money, singing songs to them, etc [i witnessed this first-hand in recife]
many girls "specialize" in dating foreigners, often only dating the ones that are young and good looking
europeans idealize the brazilian "morena", and say the EXACT same things about their own women as many on this board say about american women (cold, bitchy, too independent, etc)
non-prostitute girls of fortaleza are instantly branded as putas if seen with a foreigner, hence explaining why foreigners almost always strike out with the non-pros in fortaleza
the fortaleza girls are well aware of WHY foreigners like them, and always juggle at least 4-5 "boyfriends"...one of whom they hope will marry them and take them to europe
URL pleez...
Yes, URL please.
In Fortaleza, my favorite are the Casas where foreigners don't venture. They can be found at the newspaper ads, like here

Hum...alright, you guys made me dig through google and get it again:

It's pretty academic in the first part, but gets more interesting when they starting quoting the garotas and European clients on various topics.

Federal Police recently completed a thorough investigation of prostitution in Fortaleza, video-taping all foreigners arriving at the airport, sending in undercover agents to massage parlos and flats, interviewing garotas de programa, and writing a detailed report that has recently been made available the media.
Most of it was focused on Lula's declaration to stop child prostitution. But the heat is definitely on the owners of Cafe Del Mar, Africa, etc., regardless of the fact that they card the girls.
I personally think Lula is going to make Fortaleza the "cover story" of how he is cracking down on sex tourism. Would not be surprised to see foreigners subject to CLOSE scrutiny, boates shut down, and the entire scene in Fortaleza chilled for quite a while.
Well, at least I'll have fun with the non-pros during Fortal. Best to stay away from that scene in Fortaleza for a while it seems like.

My Portuguese isn't so great, and I didn't get all the way through the article. I thought it said that the investigation was conducted from Sept 2001 to Jan 2002. (?)Did it also say the investigation has resumed?
I am not planning on going there, but was just wondering about that.
Good article for me to practice reading! Thanks for posting that link.

Guys:
As always, I'm runnign around like crazy today, so not to much tim to analyze the article. However, in a quick reading:
1) The investigation was for 5 months, 9/01-2/02, like SLicey said, and it's over and done with. Not part of something bigger at all, really just one policewoman on a mission.
2) Her mission was not so much to show that their is prostitution goign on, which everyone already knows is part of the scene and there's nothing that can be done about it, but how much of a connection there is between the Italian and Portuguese expats and the drug world. i.e. her main point is that expats come and live in Fortaleza, deal drugs to other Italian and portuguese visitors and help hook them up with a few girls as a "courtesy". Furthermore, the expats manage to stay in Brazil permanently by knocking up a local girl, getting a resident visa via the kid. Again, the focus is on Italians and Portuguse, along with some Dutch, and the drug conection
3) yes, they videoed and then followed men getting off of Dutch, Portuguse, and Italian direct to Fortaleza flights, the men who were frequent visitors (some as frequently as every week), came alone, and were thereby suspicious. SOme men caught on to what was happening and would wear disguises.
4) Yes Americans were mentioned but only in one context, illegal activity! The policewomen said that almost all americans coming to Forta were interested in illegal sex, since it's so heavily punished in the U.S. and come to Forta specifically for that purpose. Of course, right there that shows the high bullshit level of the entire article. AS close to an exact quote as I can get, she said "If you see an American Male alone in Fortaleza, he's here for illegal sex" Yeah, sure...
Anyway, I wouldn't over-react to this article, it's all business as usual. At the same time, I wouldn't buy durgs in Fortaleza, the cops are definitely watching for you.. then again, it's stupid to buy in a forgien country anyway. (We'll leave teh morality of toking in general for another day).

BS,
I think the biggest problem is that sex tourism and child prostitution is (perhaps purposely) being linked by the authorities of Fortaleza as one and the same. Check out the 4-5 articles on the topic...the interview with the women is just one of several.
Add in the shady "foreigner" element, charges of drugs and money laundering, and it sounds like the city wants to "clean up" its image by putting the heat on those who faciliate prostitution. It sounds like the press even hounded the owners of Desigual and Cafe Del Mar.
As an example, something like this would never happen in a place like Sao Paulo or Rio, where the owners of Cafe Foto and the like have actually been openly interviewed in a positive light by the local press.
Anyhow, given that this is Brazil, I would deem this a short-term blip. But certainly, one needs to be VERY careful who he sleeps with there. Someone tell those European crackpots to lay off the drugs, stay away from the underage girls, and stop ruining it for the rest of us. It sounds like the Italians and Portuguese are the biggest culprits.
Well, again, it's BRazil, it's Fortaleza, these investigations are all show, I wouldn't worry about it one bit.

Hello guys: Anyone been to Forteleza lately?
I will be going Recife in August 04 and would like to know if you or any one could tell me about any hotel or apartment that would allow me to take girls back for the night.
I will also be traveling to Fortaleza and Natal if any one knows any hotels or apartment there too.
I would really appreciate it and would be greatful for any information or tips
Thanks

Hey fellow Virgo, let me sort out my old business cards of hotels and I will recommend you one.
In the meantime, upon arrival to FOR outside baggage claim, there is a tourist info counter where they will help you find an appropriate hotel in your price range.
I recommend "holing up" in the Praia Mirabelles area. It is within walking distance of all the daytime action, and night-time action as well:-) Meaning, you will be centrally located by staying in Mirabelles. sf4dfish
thanks for checking and thanks for the tip about the tourist info counter at the airport.
Virgo, an in-expensive hotel I've stayed at and recommend is: Brisa da Praia in Praia Iracema, Av. Beira Mar, 982. tel.(85) 219-4699
Centrally located, and very garota friendly! But never brought back more than one at a time:-)

Guys, I have a buddy that wants to hire a driver to take him from Fortaleza to Jericoacoara. Any suggestions?
Thanks

yes. Joao Gaucho.
http://www.jeri.tur.br
I just did this trip a few weeks ago.
He picks you up right from the airport in a Land Rover Defender. It costs about 400 reals, which in my mind is more than worth it (it's a 4+ hour journey in the middle of nowhere). He doesn't speak English, but he's very honest and reliable.
I was in Fortaleza recently and my buggiero friend took me to a very clean casa de massagem in the middle of nowhere inland from Praihihna (sp?) Sessioned with a girl who later that night I noticed was pictured in Playboy (Brasil)...she was hot...PM me if you want Claudio's number or more info on Fortaleza...only there for a week but happy to share what I learned...

Man, if president Looloo is going to video tape foreigners at the airport in order to crackdown on prostitution in Forteleza, I am not going to that place. Count me out. This gringo is headed to RJ.
Is that information based on anything recent? The post above is old, do you have any reports of CURRENT videotaping?
(Message edited by Hunterman on June 08, 2005)
Where did you get that information?
Hunterman,
That info is old it came from an article that was posted in the beginning of this thread. I am heading to Fortaleza in August and plan to check out the action.
Yeah, I saw the old post at the beginning of the thread, and suspect it was one of the regular Brazilian "raise a fuss for a few weeks then back to normal" deals. But although Bigleo seems pretty ignorant about Brasil, who knows? he might have some recent info. Thought I'd ask.
Fortaleza is on my "must visit soon" list, so I welcome any new info.
I am going to Fortaleza 08/20-08/23/05. Advice and recommedations are welcome reagarding lodging, garotas, caveats, and insights.
Thanx,
SW

For my fellow Hombres. I found this website with independent garotas in the Fortaleza are. Here's the link:

DANIELLY CASTRO is a real knockout. No facial picture, but the rest is looking pretty good.

Just wanted to say I spent a week in Fortaleza this February and it is as good if not better than Rio for us hobbyists. The Bikini Beach Club and all the bars around it make Help seem timid.

Out of curiosity where are these places?
I am also going to Fortaleza as well.. Landing there from Rio on the 21st of August. I am gathering information on the places which are good to go.
I will be in Fortaleza from August 20th - 23rd. The info on Fortaleza hotels is sadly lacking on this site. Please PM me if you will be there the same time or if you have "guest friendly" hotel info.
Thanks.

Was in Fortaleza in October this year. Definitely better than Rio. The area to go to is known by the locals as "the Hell Hole" but is not hell to me!! The taxi's know of Zippy Bar - packed with variety of girls (ages 18-25), which is about a 200 metre walk from the main "attractions". The girls from Zippy Bar all go to the main areas for entertainment afetr about 11.30pm i.e., Cafe Del Mar (under renovation but the best club when open), Europa Bar, Club Mamba, and the Bikini Bar. All girls are freelance, and you can negotiate to 100 reais for the night (although some charge 150 reais). I stayed at Colonial Praia Hotel (details on internet) which is about 5 minute taxi ride away from the action. They are happy for 'guests' to come back, and I paid 105 reais per night B&B for a good double room. Definitely going back in the New Year - definitely not going back to rip-off Rio!

My first trip ever in Brazil was to Fortaleza and found it to be too hot and boring. It's right on the equator. Went to Zippy bar and there was never anyone there. I did go to Pirata which was pretty cool but only once a week (Mondays if I recall). Since then I've been to Rio 13 times.
Are there any termas in Fortaleza?

Just back from another 2 weeks in Fortaleza - now that Cafe Del Mar is open, the action is even better!! The quantity and quality of "Jack Danny" was unbelievable.
Ladies are still 100 Reals (some will take 80 - others try for more!) Same hotel (Colonial) but prices now 126 Reals per night B&B for a double room. No charge for the ladies though!
Planning on going to Natal later in the year - can anyone say if it is any good and if so, where to stay?
Vaulter,
A group of friends and I went to Rio last month. They have been there many times. It was my first time and I enjoyed it very much. They are thinking of going to Fortaleza. From what you said, it is better. Definitely, the price seems to be better since they usually ask for 2 times or 3 times the amount in Rio. I just like to get my money worth. Please let me know what else do you like better than Rio besides the price. We thinking about going around end of March 2008. Thank you.
