I was in Recife last summer. There are lots of things to do in Recife, but it is also harder to find. At least it was for me because I was visiting people there, and did not have as much time looking around.

This place is famous with Germans who come here for underage girls.

On Friday nights, there were more women on the street obviously soliciting then anyplace I have ever seen.

It is also much more dangerous on the street then Rio. I would really be careful here.

There are many things to be found here, but harder to find.

I have been living for a couple of years in Brasil, I'm still frequently over there. Recife used to be the spot for europeans, however over the last couple of years it went down. I'm not sure how it is at the moment. There is still Sampra and the Bamboo bar near the old church. Bamboo is a nice place to start the evening with and than go to the bar next to it. Girl are medium some of them have been their for years. A nice place on weekends is Olinda or some other parts in town like, Espinero(can't remember how to spell it) or Graca. These are places where the local hang out. But to go there you should be in a group of 2, it is a lot easier to get a girl. Another interesting place used to be a bar in front of the Airport next to the gas station. On Saturday nights a lot of farmer where hanging there and having fun. It can get real wild there.

I heard they converted the area at the docks. That used to be a very rough place but suppose to be very nice now with very goot nightlife on weekend. Prices for the working girls are a lot cheaper than in Rio. Recife also has a lot of clubs, like clube protughese or club international. Sometime those clubs have some events. Carneval in those clubs is a blast. If you go, go with a friend but NOT with a working girl. There are plenty single women of all ages and like any other country the locals don't like tourists showing up with hookers.

Recife has a layered, compact scene. The main location for sex activites is near the southern terminal of Boa Viagem -- the main beachfront road. Orient yourself, though, about 2 blocks back from Boa Viagem, as the street itself is fairly dead.

Here, at the terminal, are most of the city's famous sex-bars: "Chakatak," "Bamboo," "Eclipse" and "Brazil Eden Club." The intersection for these four clubs -- all basically caddy-corner to each other -- is Souza Leao and Setubal.

At the time of this posting Eclipse and Brazil Eden Club had been closed for 6 months.

Chakatak is the cheapest club in this area. Entrance is free and drinks are cheap. Most of the girls are a little homely -- but the place is friendly and a good place to hang out. Most of the women asked somewhere between 50 and 100 reals. There are no rooms here. Must go to a sex-motel (or take them back to your own).

Bamboo, around the corner, is a little better. On any night there are about 50 girls here -- still mostly homely, but some tending to the higher range of the index. Most of the girls charge closer to the 100 reals end of the spectrum. Like Chakatak, there's no sex on-site.

Incidentally, there's a row of dirty, cheap restaurant-bars between these two venues. Almost all the girls you see hanging out here are available, and will probably show up at one of these two clubs sometime that night.

The most famous place in Recife is "Sampa Disco" -- about 5-7 blocks south on the large street inland from Boa Viagem. Many cute girls. Many hustlers. The two I were with both rushed the sex, and the second rather insolently insisted that it is "normal" to use two condoms. Big time attitude.

There are two termas in town: "Termos Club Mar" and "Termos New Club Scandinavia." I didn't go to either. The first is on Sampa street a few more blocks up.

Maybe the best scene, I hate (and love) to say, is the street scene. On any given night that first large inland street is teeming with fine young (all 18+) girls. And I mean fine. I know many of you avoid street walkers. Buuut....

Prices for these girls were all around the 50 reals range. Talk to them, flag a cab, and take them to the numerous sex-motels close by. Try "Del Rey" if for some strange reason neither she nor the taxi driver have any ideas.

There's some dire action in centro, in an area called "Recife Antigua." But it's almost medievally bad and should be avoided. The area is pretty rough, too.

Finally, the beach promenade isn't as safe as it looks. A group of guys tried to mug me there late-night. Take care.

P.S. The street I keep mentioning but never name (two in from beachfront Boa Viagem) is "Conselheiro Aguias" -- or something like that (I can't read my own handwriting!).

The girls at Sampa typically started price quoting around the 200 reals mark -- but were the most flexible I've seen in Brazil in terms of negoitiation. I got them both down to 100. They all ask for cab fare when your done.

Also, some of the Sampa girls seem to like to be paid first -- which could mean bad service. Sampa girls bunch up with friends -- so if you have a bad experience with one girl, chances are that all of her friends will give you similar grief.

I went to Recife and checked out Casa da Odete (supposedly shut down for underage prostitution...although when I was there, there were like 10 girls...all of them seemingly older looking imports from the South). When I was being driven there, I thought I was being kidnapped and was prepared to have a fight to the death with the cab driver for control of the car. Luckily, he took me to the right place and said he would wait for me.

When I went in, it was pretty piss poor. Especially because I was used to the luxury of Sao Paulo boates. Just a house, with a pool, a few tables, and guys drinking beer. I looked around for 30 minutes and bailed. They quoted 250R for 2 hours. What the hell??? I could have stayed in SP and gotten a roster 70-80 deep for that price. Forget about.

Went outside expecting my cabbie to have abandoned me, but he was waiting hanging out with the other drivers. He then gave me a tour of street hooker central. It was *interesting* to say the least. Spotted at least a few girls who looked way to young (like 13-15). Others looked clearly drugged out. A few started yelling at me, flashing their skirts, etc. Again, not my scene at all...although if you do not mind talking with them, you may find some decent ones. Oh, and at some point, the street scene goes from girl hookers to transvetis. That turned me off too, because I did NOT want to *miss* by a block or two. hehe

Upon reflection, I noticed decent groups of girls (4-6) sitting in certain areas along the street. Perhaps decent girls hang out with other decent girls...so if you found the right "crowd", you can get lucky. I would venture to say that if others were to go cruising with me next time, we may have a better time if we luck onto a group of nice girls and take them all back to a motel for a party. Pure speculation on my part, but that may be the best solution for the street scene. I tried to pump my cabbie for info on the "safe" girls who are drug free...but he wasn't much use.

Went into Sampa Club. Not very impressed. Imagine Help Disco, but there's only 30 girls. And 2 were decent looking. It's also dark as hell in there. I wanted to whip out a flash light and line up the girls for mug shots. Some interesting characters as well. One American looking guy looked to be a regular...shaking hands with the staff, kissing the girls, etc...imagine Norm of Cheers, except Cheers is a whore house.

The one decent looking one acted like she was a prom queen. There was a young blonde European guy who was wooing her, said she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen, kissed her hand and arms, and brought her a glass of wine. She graced him with her company. Yup, that's why I go to Brazil. To romance putas. Please.

I started talking with a Brazilian guy, who tried to get me to import his company's cachaca into the U.S. I gave him my email address and asked him to find me a decent looking girl, for the love of God. He actually found one...after I explained to him what I liked..."cara de ninfeta, 18-19 aninhos...bem novinha...blah blah"

The girl he found for me sat down. And looked in the opposite direction. Unreal. I was getting desperate at this point, so I settled on a price with her and bailed the place.

Hit the top love motel in town. Eros I think. Got a great suite. Went up. She finally started giving decent service. BBBJ, kissing, etc. She showed me a picture of her kid afterwards. Cute baby, but kind of ruined the mood from that point onwards. When we were done, I tried to sleep.

Lucky for me, there were Italians having a party next door with some program girls. It was so loud I was ready to go Gracie Jui-Jitsu through the wall and start laying some choke-holds on people. Then I realized I did not know martial arts, so threw the pillow over my head instead. I made my garota complain to management. They got the call, calmed down, then got loud again.

I finally could not take it any longer and left in the middle of the morning with my garota. I gave her a separate cab, and went home to my flat.

The next morning I went to the local mall and walked around. Sad to say, I got *zero* flirty looks. I always get at least one in Rio, Belo, or SP. Absolutely nothing. Tried to order food, and the accent was throwing off my Portuguese. It's different up there. Walked around some more and noticed a lot of *stunning* local girls. Those of you who like European looking girls...well, these girls could have been straight from SP. Again, not a single flirty look from them, even after half-hearted attempts at trying to pick them up. I got depressed and went to watch a Tom Cruz sci-fi flick at the cinema. They just don't seem that friendly there in Recife. Almost seems like a poor Sao Paulo if you ask me.

Oh, as for the city, not very impressive at all. Boa Viagem was crap. A strip of beach with very few people, flanked by big sky scrapers. Had breakfast at the hotel that is supposedly hooker central during the day. I just saw a dozen old Italians guys roaming around, looking sad like me.

I have heard good things about Recife Antigua since then, more in terms of non-pro meeting opportunitiees vs whoring. Would be interested in hearing other people's thoughts. But really. Recife was NOT that great in my opinion. To give you a measuring stick, I can *usually find* a few girls who are cute and doable at Help. Same for 4x4. So maybe I'm just picky. But if you are as well, then I would give Recife a miss.

Maybe it's a seasonal thing, even though July is the height of the Brazilian winter vacation season, it is still low season for European vacationers. Maybe you hit town in the middle of one of the state government's occasional prostitution sweeps. I'm really suprised at your not getting any non-pro action at all (maybe you're very, very ugly?? ;-) ). Not that I'm Adonis, but I've just about had to beat them off with a stick when I lived there (1990, long time ago). Of course, I had a live-in girlfriend back then, so 95% of the flirting was probably just to piss off my girl (Brasileiras are just as catty as any other race of women). Yeah, Boa Viagem is nothing special as for beaches (and the reefs are a real painin the ass). You have to go to Porto das Galinhas for a decent beach near Recife. Your Eros girl was probably trying to finagle you out of more money by playing on sympathy, in my not-to-large experience, ALL lower-class girls in the Nordeste over the age of 15 have kids. Especially all the prostitutes. Anyway, there you go, REcife is not the land of mongering milk and honey, better luck furhter north...

Well, the ugliness may have played a factor. But of course, the girls did not seem to mind my ugliness in SP, so I can't figure it out. :-)

To be honest, I was not trying very hard, and was quite depressed from the selection of garotas the night before. Now that I remember...I did get one lingering look. It was a cute little garota who was writing in English to her American boyfriend. I peeped over at her screen, and she was writing something along the lines of:

"I miss you so much darling, it is so nice you are going to teach somewhere else, but when will you be coming back, etc etc"

Now if I was in Tudo Facil in Copacabana, I would think - program girl. But she seemed sort of a well-to-do type...anyhow, she noticed that I was sitting there glumly surfing ESPN.com and kept staring over at me. Probably realizing I was American, or at least, spoke English. Maybe she was on the program after all.

But I was not in the mood, and I took off. So yeah, that was the sad extent of the attention I got at the mall.

I heard the Fashion Club night club was supposedly filled with cuties on weekends. Again, I did not get a chance to check it out, and I will retract my previous condemnation of the city and withold judgment until I go back with a wingman and cruise aggressively.

But certainly, I will say the program scene is quite bad. Probably best to find upper tier agencies, which may prove difficult without local contacts. Any leads on this end would be appreciated.

DOn't look at me, I haven't been in Recife since 1990, and back then the scene was way different. Good whorehouses, long since closed... plenty of pros on Boa Viagem beach... game every time I turned around. And then I got my "noiva", who made sure I kept my nose clean!

I was in Recife in 2002. It's hit and miss, and certainly can't compare to Rio (or SP so I've heard).

I'd say it's only for the hobbiest that want's a tropical destination, something off the beaten path, a vet of Rio/SP looking for something else.

I do have a complete trip report in the history somewhere, info on bars, clubs, restaurants, hotel, etc.

I went to Recife in 2002, its horrid for tourists that dont speak language. Nobody understands a word in english there.

I was with my gf at the time so I couldnt monger but I saw tons of street action there like already reported. Its a cheap decent city imo.

I will be going Recife in August 04 and would like to know if you or any one could tell me about any hotel or apartment that would allow me to take girls back for the night.

I will also be traveling to Fortaleza and Natal if any one knows any hotels or apartment there too.

I would really appreciate it and would be greatful for any information or tips

I was in Recife in September 2003. Based on this forum's reports I did not expect too much, but in the end I found it pretty good.

I only went to the boate "Sampa", which had good reports here on the forum. I was more than satisfied.

Well, I did also take a long walk down Conseilheiro Aguiar to look at the SWs. But I would say, don't waste your time, they all have a "vaca" kind of demeanour, and none were very good looking. Most are young (lots of 18, 19yo). Price is 50r, but really I saw nothing I wanted.

Anyway, Sampa is the upscale option, but in Recife still very affordable. I could easily find an 8 or 8.5 looking girl for 100r, all night. They will probably ask for a little extra for the taxi home.

The majority of Sampa girls work at the boate every night. They get favourable terms from the club if they meet dress standards, turn up 7 nights a week and always arrive before midnight. Basically they avoid the 10r entry fee that a more part-time girl has to pay to go to Sampa. If she leaves with you, the girl pays a 10r exit fee to the club later on (this on top of the 10r exit fee that you pay).

Best time to arrive at this club is between 11:30pm and midnight, most of the girls will already be there, and you get to pick the best ones. Probably the only downside of this club is the limited selection, about 30-40 girls. Of these maybe ten girls rate a 7, 8, or 9. Of course YMMV, I admit I tend to like the dark eyed, caramel skin look that is common in Recife.

The Boa Viagem beach looks OK for hanging out, although not many people swimming there. Note, you should go early, I only made it around 3pm most days, and it was already winding down fast. The designated spot for garotas de programa is in front of the Recife Palace, about in the middle of the Boa Viagem strip. Best time to arrive is midday (easier said than done, I was still waking up from the night before).

Plenty of hotels in the Boa Viagem area. This is a big city so there are not really any informal pousadas here, just tidy commercial hotels ranging from 60-200 reais. I recommend Hotel Jangadeiro, on the beachfront avenue, cross-street Antonio Falcao (http://www.jangadeirohotel.com.br). About 90 reais with discount (you should always ask for discount or best rate, they drop the price about 20% without even blinking). I did not personally stay here so can't guarantee you it's garota-friendly, but someone else already recommended it so should be cool.

Recife appears to be a very good city for meeting non-pros. I got a lot of looks on the street, and plenty of girls like to flirt. I think if you lived in this city you would have all the action you could handle.

When I was there, years ago, I would not have recommended to walk down Conselheiro Aguiar, for safety resons. Rather take a taxi, as still be watchful.

Before going to Sampa disco you can go around the Boa viagem plaza (approx Boa viagem 4000);there is a nice pro girl terrace before 11pm on the av conselheiro aguiar'side (I don't remember the name)
After 1am you can go too the Bamboo bar 100m far from the "terrace" (to the west).
An another nice terrace around 6-7pm is approx boa viagem 4100 near the Boa viagem hotel
On the beach the best place is in front of the Recife Palace Hotel( you don't have to pay for having a seat...)
good restaurants are CHICA PITANGA rua Petrolina 19 very cheap/very good and the best place actually is BOI PRETO churrascaria av Boa Viagem 500 approx (price 50 rs pp)
If you are looking for a nice Motel go to SUNSHINE rua Manuel Abreu 210 (prices started 50rs/4h...)
Good hotel with girl friendly if you take a room for 2,try PARKHOTEL on plaza Boa Viagem I paid in DEcember 132 RS/night(after bargain) with a nice view on the beach and a swimming pool on the roof
