I will defer to others more familiar with the area but I don't think that is in Copa. Looks more like Barra or San Conrado. 20-30 minute ride into Copa. Looks like a nice family kind of place but not sure it would meet this boards needs......

It's definitely Barra, you can see the hills around "Prainha" in the photo of the balcony. If it were Copa, Ipanema, or even Sao Conrado, you would see Morro dos Dois Irmaos or Morro da Gavea (both much bigger than those hills). Anyway, as SM pointed out, this is way too far out for mongering.

I sent in a request for end of July and they have not responded. I did mention that I like to have guests over both male and female. That might have been why no reply.

GCL: The guy posts his SPAM in three different threads and can't even decide from thread to thread whether to make it look like he is himself renting the places or whether he is some impartial guy who is turning us onto a good place he rented from someone else. He also has not contributed a thing to this site previously, at least not under his present handle. If such SPAM is permitted from strangers to this board who did not first establish their credibility here, some members are eventually going to get burned.

Since the poster is almost assuredly the owner of the apartments (the website is registered to the owner of the apartments, not an agent), it seems that this rises to the level of SPAM, especially given the disingenuous "hey i`ve stayed in those apartments for a couple of weeks, you should try it! livin'n large with low price." It even sounds like an advertisement!

While literally true (he's stayed in them), the post is written in a way to imply that he's just a cool CH member looking out for the interests of the rest of us.

Would you not agree that this, then, constitutes SPAM????

But....more importantly, the prices being asked are ridiculous. There are similar apartments in the neighborhood for $20-$30/night less. The neighborhood is not exactly the most desirable (despite what Jaguar might say). The extra $30-$40/night charged for a second person is absurd. If the apartments received daily maid service and such it might be different, but there is nowhere near enough wear and tear from a second person to warrant this addition. Requiring three days rent in advance? No one who I've dealt with in Rio requires a deposit. And a $500 security deposit??? You must be joking! Again, I've never paid a security deposit and I've stayed in many, many apartments in Rio.

Wow, a view of the favela warrants a little extra money :-) This looks like Copa...not Ipanema...This location looks familiar to me, which would place it on the high side of the price range indicated. You should be able to secure a nice place in Ipanema (a much better location) in the $80 to $90 USD range....in Copa, $60 USD is reasonable. I would NOT recommend Barra de Tijuca...very far from everything. In most cases about a R$30 cab ride (or R$2.00 for those of you willing to ride a bus) each way. For the average person vacationing in Rio, Ipanema, Leblon, and Copa are the best choices. For pure mongering Copa is a good location - this is were Help and a few of the termas are located. For a little more upscale and safe location consider Ipanema or Leblon. Ipanema is best - Copa is more easily accessed from Ipanema - then Leblon. There are many apartments in the R$160 - R$180 ($80 - $90 USD range) in Ipanema.

A little know fact - you can usually rent an apartent for entire month for the same price as for two weeks. The typically temp apartment rental in Ipanema (again my preferred area) is about R$2300 a month ($1150 USD). This, of course, greatly depends on time of the year. Ipanema is a much more desirable area then Copa, and Leblon even more.... In pecking order...Copa first, followed by Ipanema, the finally by Leblon.

I would be glad to help anyone in finding a place, but in the interest of disclosure, will make a little R$$$ in commission.

Remember a second high season in Rio is coming up - the Pan American games in the summer. Prices will be higher!
