Guest friendly--yes. They do charge a guest fee. Pics and prices are available at the website above. I haven't stayed there but asked for a received a tour last month, and was impressed. Nice rooms and nice facilities at a good price.

use web site for imformation. bobby at blame it on rio or andre at ipanema.com can usually get lower rates.
By Thumper on Wednesday, June 18, 2003 - 03:29 pm: Edit
Bobby can get you a room with NO guest charge, he did it for a couple of my buddies who stayed there last month. I think they paid about $60/night, but that was for the small rooms, not the suites.

Thanks Layne - Can you recommend anyone in particular? I know that degenerate BASTARD Rich (GCL) has all the women in town eating out of his hand (or off his foot)- remember he likes feet. Right Rich? He'll probably be Mayor of Rio by time I get there. God are we in trouble! Hemp

Rich as mayor of Rio? No. He's the new Minister of Information.

Can anyone tell me where/how close this hotel is located to monger destinations such as Help Disco, Meia Pateca, Hooker beach ?
By Rudy on Friday, July 18, 2003 - 07:28 pm: Edit
It is about 3 or 4 blocks off the beach straight back from the Othon Palace Hotel. HELP and MP are spitting distance from the Othon, the Hooker beach is right across the street from the Othon.
By Sweetmesquite on Saturday, July 19, 2003 - 10:08 am: Edit
the princess is a half a block past copa ave going away from the beach . rooms on street still have an ocean view from balcony however noisy due to construction across the street. rooms overlooking pool nice and quiet. mini suites are great. i paid R192 /night. stayed there 2 weeks and loved it [so did the girls]
By Whitecat on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 08:53 am: Edit
how did you get that rate, since the site says 280?
Thanks
By Sweetmesquite on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 11:03 am: Edit
start with jaun at ipanema.com. rates posted on promenade are "street rates". possibly can get weekly rates through them direct which i did when i extended my stay. but try ipanema. com first. had same experience with country residence in ipanema another promenade property.. travel agency got best price. ipa .com slow on e-mail response sometimes ,may need to call .

Does anyone know the difference between the three different types of rooms:
Studio
Apartment
Suite
What type of bedding in the rooms ? I hate a room with 2 small beds. I prefer a king or queen bed.
Views ?
How many floors in hotel ?
By SF_Hombre on Thursday, July 24, 2003 - 01:31 pm: Edit
In the Princess:
Studio: Bedroom only. No kitchen. Minibar under the tv.
Apartment: Separate bedroom. Other room (larger than the bedroom)has a living room area and kitchen area with a table. Small balcony with a couple of chairs overlooking the pool. Nice.
Suite: Same setup as Apartment, but a little larger and more luxurious.
You can request king or queen. Be sure you tell them you don't want two twins pushed together.
No views of water. All studios in front. Noisy because they're constructing a building directly across the street, and lots of noise EARLY, sometimes on the weekend as well.
9 or 10 floors in the hotel.

Just got back from a 14 day stay. Went to Princess Copacabana after finding out about the Debret's new policy. Really nice hotel. The suites are really nice and the balcony is very useful. The front rooms can get noisy, though, as they face the street. The back is much quieter, but I think those suites are not quite as nice. Girl friendly, but it costs $60R. Newer and relatively inexpensive accomodations. Highly recommended.
By Hemp on Friday, August 01, 2003 - 03:37 pm: Edit
Thanks Esdude for the recommendation and update. I have reservations there end of August - went with the Single Suite inside overlooking the pool. Thanks - Hemp
By Soprano on Monday, August 11, 2003 - 09:25 pm: Edit
Thanks SF Hombre...
I am thinking about the Apartment overlooking the pool. Is there much of a difference between this and the suite ? You mentioned less luxurious ??
Do you think I can get a queen or king in this apartment suite or are they only in the larger suites ?
Did I notice leather headboards ?
Is breakfast included in prices ?
Hey Hemp..Let us know what room #'s are best when you get back
Esdude..is it $60R per day or per "guest" ? As you know, sometimes you may bring a different girl up during the day than the night. Also, do they allow more than one guest at the same time ?
Thanks to all.

You know, I'm not sure what the difference is between an "apartment suite" and a regular suite. I only saw two types. The _01A's (as in 801A, 901A, etc.), which face front and were a little larger and nicer than the 06's (back facing). I think it was the 06, might have been 05.
The price does include breakfast (although I never tried it), and there were leather headboards. The back facing suite had a much smaller bedroom and bed (but still plenty big for two people). The front facing suite had a bigger bedroom and bed, but it really was two double beds pushed together (I think all the time it is this way, and not just for me).
I'm not sure about whether the $60 was per day or per guest (never had more than one per day). My guess is that it is per guest, although it shows up on the bill as a "day charge." Only one guest at a time.
Oddly enough, they didn't charge me (or question me) when I brought up a male buddy to check out the room. Sounds like some kind of discrimination to me.
By SF_Hombre on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 10:11 am: Edit
The larger of the two types of suites is nominally bigger, with a somewhat different layout. I think it is money wasted. Both come what I believe are king size beds.
More importantly the Copa Princess now charges 60 Reals PER GUEST...whether in the day or night, whether they stay for a few hours or overnight, and, per reception, whether male or female (?!)
So if you have a female guest in the afternoon, who thereafter leaves, and another in the evening, you will pay 120 reals total plus your room charge. Ouch.
By Soprano on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 12:25 pm: Edit
They are out of there minds ! That is bullshit to charge for every guest. I can accept the daily charge of R$60, but for every guest ?? We need to find other hotels that allow guests whether complimentary or for a reasonable one day flat fee.
By Hemp on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 03:27 pm: Edit
Soprano I totally agree. When I'm there next week Buddy I am going to give them a piece of my mind about this policy. Hell I know I'm looking at around $600R a day alone. "Yeah Right" Just wishful thinking gang. Soprano I'll let you know what they say. - Hemp

Soprano and Hombre's - I just returned from 10 days in Rio and stayed at the Princess Copacabanna. I had an "Inside" suite and paid $240R per night but here is the deal: $240 night during the week and $150R on Fri/Sat/Sun night so it averages out under $200R. Garota fee $60 unless you register as a DOUBLE when you arrive then you can bring as many as you want. So guys if you plan on bringing in multiple guests just register as a DOUBLE. Confirm this at the desk sothere is no confusion as I did. - Great Hotel just a few blocks from the beach. Do not get the "Street" rooms as they can be noisy, make sure you ask for an "Inside" Room. Suite has Living Room, seperate bedroom with a swivel TV, refrigerator and sink with kitchen utensils. I would also recommend floor 3 or 4 as your balcony would then nicely overlook the swimming pool. The higher floors are surrounded by other buildings. Recap: Highly recommended - register as double if you plan on a lot of visitors - inside suite with balcony - HAVE FUN AMIGO'S. - Hemp
By Xenono on Monday, September 01, 2003 - 02:49 pm: Edit
I agree completely with Hemp about the Princess Copacabana. I was told the same thing about guests, register as a double and can you bring in multiple guests. I was told still just one at a time, but multiple visits by different girls in the same day were acceptable and no additional charges would be levied.
I liked the place very much. I stayed on the top levels overlooking the street and didn't have a problem with noise. I thought the place was a great value. I also highly recommend Princess Copacabana.
More details and pics are coming in my report.

You guys are the best !
Did the rooms have queen size beds or 2 dbl beds ?
Is bkfst included ?
By Thumper on Monday, September 01, 2003 - 07:35 pm: Edit
Was the charge for registering as a double the same, or were you charged more?
By Hemp on Tuesday, September 02, 2003 - 01:49 am: Edit
Registering as a double costs $60R more per night. - Breakfast included up to 10:30 am - They have both queen and 2 double bed rooms so just ask for a queen. - Also if you have to be checking out on a Sunday you can check out up to 6:00 PM (check with front desk) - Have a good trip - Thanks Hemp

Do the rooms have music cd players and dvd players for tv ?
By Fooledagain1 on Saturday, October 04, 2003 - 07:52 am: Edit
S-- No cd or dvd players in the rooms i stayed in, they did have a clock radio if you want some music but might be better to bring your own. Also have MTV and other english speaking music video channels on the tube. I believe channel 42 had strip shows late at night with music and the garotas JUST LOVED watching them. Also the fri, sat, sun, rate of 150R is for double, no extra quest fee. I stayed in the standard room during the week for 153R plus 60R for double, then moved to the suite on fri. I believe the suite is 240R plus 60R for double,
By Fooledagain1 on Saturday, October 04, 2003 - 08:36 am: Edit
Like everyone says, i agree, highly recommended but with that said there are a couple of things they really need to improve on. The first and most important is they don`t call your room to see if everything is allright when the girl leaves, they make her fill out a form and they are very good at checking the form against her ID, that`s good protection from normal working girls who might try something, but is no match for a pro thief who has a fake ID and might drug you like what happened to the Taxman, something to think about, i wish they would just call the room. The other thing is they make the girl fill out a new form every time she enters the hotel even if she just filled one out a few hours ago, a bit ofa pain, and some girls complained about it.
By Soprano on Tuesday, October 07, 2003 - 05:55 pm: Edit
Do the rooms have microwaves in them ?
Also, do you need step down converters or adapters for electrical outlets ?
Thank you.

I stayed here for the first time after normally staying at the Rio Roiss. I was impressed with this hotel and plan on staying again. I had the studio room for R136 + tax and think it is a great deal. The room is small, but comfortable and modern. About the same size room as the Debret's (maybe a little bigger), smaller than Roiss', but MUCH nicer. It's a short walk to the beach and a cheap taxi ride home from Help in the evening. The guest charge is R60. However, if the girl does not stay all night (past 6 am), they apparently do not charge (my experience).
BTW, side note on the garota charge: At the Roiss, Debret (pre-garota ban) and at the Princess, if the girl leaves early (before around 6 am), the charge usually doesn't show up on the bill. This may be something to keep in mind when staying at a gorota-charging hotel if you wish to avoid additional charges. However, almost every time I've had a girl stay until morning, I was charged. Not that a little morning wake-up isn't worth R60...we are on vacation after all.
Suites at the Princess cost a little more, but certainly worth the money if you like a little more room. In comparison to the other hotels (or apartments) in Rio, I really can't see how anyone could be disappointed with this place. BTW, I booked my reservation through Ipanema.com. It took a day or two for a reply with confirmation.
By Laguy on Monday, January 26, 2004 - 09:07 am: Edit
After I got fucked by the Atlantico Copacabana on a promised extension to my reservation, I checked into one of the smaller suites at the Princess. I agree it is a good hotel, and good value, with one exception. The airconditioner was right next to and directly above my bed, and was difficult to modulate. It really was in a terrible location. I ended up with a terrible cold within a couple of days of checking in, and while there are other possible explanations, I think the most likely is the air conditioner. In fact, I ended up turning it off at night after that, not a pleasant thing to do on a hot Rio day/night. With this in mind, I have to give this one mixed reviews. Anyone else have a similar reaction?
By Xenono on Monday, January 26, 2004 - 11:34 am: Edit
IANAD (I am not a doctor), but I read in Maxim this month you don't get a cold by going outside in the cold with wet hair.
I would assume that is the same for sleeping under an air conditioner. Perhaps the real doctors here can comfirm or deny this, but I read the only way you get a cold is by coming into contact with the cold virus. (Kissing that garota that has it, etc...)
