Here's an interesting website that is pretty good w/recs for restuarants, hotel recs and activities for Cartagena.
www.cartagenatravelguide.com
Gotta try renting a boat or yacht and going deep sea fishing next time. Check out the interesting section about "Is it Safe in Colombia".

Nice site Merl. Many of my Colombiano friends make the same points you've made about the safety of the country. The statistics on the site are compelling, but why wouldn't they post per-capita statistics, rather than the overall figures? At least then they would be comparing relevant units of measure, right?
In any event, Colombia is definitely on my to do list. May try to head out to MDE, CTG and San Andres sometime soon.

Pendejo, you're correct about the need for per capita crime rate comparisons, and there is a per capita comparison on another site
http://www.nationmaster.com/country/co/Crime
According to this site, Colombia was #1 for kidnappings and murders in 2000. However, my conversations with locals in Cali and MDE seem to suggest those numbers were about right for 2000, when things were a lot worse than it is now. Even with that said, I would imagine a lot of the murders and kidnappings were Colombian-on-Colombian type of stuff, and the stuff that tourists should be more concerned about, assaults and robberies, is still relatively low.
Anyway, the restuarant and activity recs on the site are right on, I've tried about a dozen of the restaurants listed on the site and they were all excellent, especially the Riquisimo restaurant.
