Just getting ready to ask this...heard the falls are amazing, and along with day trips to Buzios and Angra, should really help round out my vacation...much as I love the brazilian bundas, I want my trip to be a bit more than just the inside of termas and my bedroom, heh...

By Citydude on Sunday, August 18, 2002 - 03:25 pm:  Edit

The falls are spectacular - Both the Brazilian an Argentinian side. I found the AR side more breathtaking. You ar better taking a garota or Chica from either Rio, or Bs As.

Citydude,

How did you go about getting there ?

First time from GIG, second time from EZE. Both times a puddlejumper if I recall correctly. Recent punterers may have a more up-t-date info.

If you really want to go to the falls, then after we get to rio that are numerous local travel agents that take care of it. ipanema.com is probably the best one to try to ask remote general questions.

local travel agencies have much better rates than if you book it thru an american agency.

How safe are the planes/ pilots? I'm not a big fan of the smaller airplanes, so I wanna' make sure I survive the trip without having a heart attack, heh...

By Gitano on Monday, August 19, 2002 - 04:11 pm:  Edit

I had written ipanema.com a rfi, but received no response. Maybe I shouldn't have asked them about the termas. The packages I saw were for 3+ days at $600 or so. That's a bit much. Varig runs flights thru either Sao Paulo or Curibita. Athos will want pictures. Expedia was showing these flights at $385. Add in a decent hotel at about $100 a night and we have spent $500 in a hurry. God help me if I get impulsive an ask a garrota to come with. I'll have to blackjack you and give her your ticket. I apologize, but I was deeply affected by her.

It looks cool, but hell an overnight out and back at $500 is probably more than I want to get into, even if you do donate your seat to mi amor. Still there's probably better deals available locally and we can check it out if we don't get lost in the swimming pools.

Planes are BAe's or maybe be Saab. I did not pay attention. The Argentinian side had a decent Intercntinental hotel overlooking the falls when I stayed last - '00.

didn't try any action when I went to Iguassu...I was encouraged to "BYOB"...Bring Your Own Babe...heh...Stay at Hotel Cataratas and be sure to check out the Argentina side as well as the Brazilian side of the falls...2 days, one night should be sufficient...it's gorgeous, but not a lot to do there IMHO...

I went to the Falls by bus from Rio. The trip took 22 hours by bus and cost 120 Real. I stayed at the hotel Foz Do Iguacu in the downtown area on Brazil Ave for 35 Real a night; 3 star promotional rate for that week. Its 10 or 15 more normally.I did have money stolen from my room at this hotel. I had 130 dollars hidden in my bag and whoever cleans the room found it. I did report it and called police and made out a report but did not get reimbursed. The law in Brazil is that if you dont put it in the safe offered at the front then its your fault if it gets stolen meaning no one else is responsible. Anyways on to the part you asked about. I noticed a night club called the Crystal Palace on AV Das Cataratas which is the road that takes you to the Brazilian side of the falls. I decided to check it out that night 11/19/02. The place was empty at 8 pm. I went in and to the pool area where they have a snack bar. I ate and had a few drinks trying to communicate with the ladies working the snack bar. They were friendly but no english. An Argentine guy that lives in the states but frequents the area for business stopped in to make arrangements with some girls for Wed night. He said to me you found the best club in the area. The girls want from 200 to 300. The guy invited me to come the next day but for reasons explained later never made it. The menu states the price of drinks for garotas which I remember thinking were a little pricey. The place does not get rocking until 10PM. I left about 10:15 after seeing the girls come in. They had some good looking women comparable to the termas in Rio working at the club. I did see Don from Rio trip at 4x4 and he had also checked out the club the day after me and was impressed with the quality. The reason I did not retturn is that while at the club I was looking at a newspaper Gazette something (not sure of the name) and saw a few adds for massage which I decided to check out the next day. The Sauna Relax at R.Jorge Sanwais 1752 tele (45) 523-9524 is open from 12:00 to 23:30 everyday. The price is 80 Real for massage and full service. There is a sign at the beginning of the driveway that leads to the place. It looks like a house but is set up as a business. The garota that i met was small and thin with huge firm natural tits and there was no doubt that in my mind that i was here for business especially at this price. She was well worth the 80 R and was a sweetie; she kissed and the massage was not bad although short. We got to business fairly quick like within 10 minutes as the session is 40 minutes. You could always get a double session if you like more time. I only say one other girl working there and she was doable but not to my liking. I was here about 1 oclock and then left for Paraguay shopping. That evening I tried out another ad which was at the Estoril Center just around the corner from my hotel. I believe it was on the corner of AV Rep Argentina & Av JK 2nd floor. It closes at 8pm. I went about 6:30 and the lady was sitting by the steps thatlead to the second floor. I showed her the ad and she led me up the stairs. I soon found out the she was not just showing me where to go but was the one working there. A blonde with her hair in a bun and white uniform; she said 20 R for the massage & 20 R for suckey; no sex offered, What the hell 11 dollars; lets go for it. I cant complain for the price the massage and blow job were well worth it.

I dont know how many newspapers they have in Foz. I just stumbled through the whole experience by my self and had no problems other than with the weather. I did not buy the paper but rather just picked it up at the snack bar at Crystal Palace and happen to see the adds and ripped them out for the next day. I had no problems walking at night in Centro to restaurants. The massage parlors are in Centro area. The one at Estoril is just a petition in a room. Very small space thus only suckey offered. I do not remember the name of the girl with the big tits. Just go and check it out if you have time. You can always say that you are investigating for later and will return later. if you dont like what you see dont return. Be adventurous and have fun; Good Luck. PS bring your umbrella; my 4 day experrience is that it is either hot as hell or raining.

Did the falls and can only say---AWESOME!!!

I stayed in Foz for 5 or 6 days, touring the Falls on both the Brazilian and Argentian sides as well as the World's largest hydo-electric plant. I prefer the Argentinian side for viewing the falls as you can get right on top of them and have an upclose and personal perspective on the "Garganta del Diablo"/Devil´s Throat,a thundering confluence of several falls.

If you do not stay at either of the luxury hotels located at the falls(about US$150), you are much better staying on the Brazilian side,as the Argentinian side is pretty spartan and set up more for the back packer types. There is a wide range of hotels in Foz. I stayed in a centrally located 3 or 4 star place with gym, pool,I-net access, etc. for about US$22/night.

I did not do much mongering as I hooked up with a garota from Rio who was vacationing in Foz. She kept me busy and drained for a couple of days and although I did not pay her anything,I suspect she may be a pro because of her expertise in the oral application of a condom. Will be looking her up again when I return to Rio around 10 January for further investigation.

My first night in town, I went to a club outside of town called "Crystal". It was full of garotas on the program but was a high pressure, "buy me a drink for R30 to R50" sort of place that I left early due to fatigue and not being overly attracted to any of the talent. The late night desk clerk offered chicks in the room for 3hrs. at R150 and several taxi drivers mentioned a sauna/terma (Aquario?) that I saw in the yellow pages. I also saw several ads for company in the classifieds. From what I have seen since starting my trip on 1 Nov.,I suspect that in nearly any town with 50 to 75 thousand people throughout Brazil and Argentina,You can locate the "Golden Gates to Heaven" via the yellow pages, classifieds and cab drivers.

There are three excellent boates in Foz Do Iguacu, much cheaper than Sao Paulo or Rio, but same quality. The best of them is definitely Cristal, the newest boate in the city. It is just 2 miles (3 Km) from Bourbon Hotel and about 10 miles from the Iguacu Falls. When I was there, I saw more than 100 girls looking desperately for eye contact with me. The average girl is from 5 to 8, but if you search carefully you can find a 9, even a 10! There are some rooms upstairs, it is a little bit small (like 75' x 75') but it is still OK (You don't want to spend more than 1 hour there anyway, right?). The main hall is new, clean and mood is cool.
The second one is Sex Appeal, about 10 miles far away from the downtown area, it was once the number one place of the city. In general, same than Cristal, but 10 years older. But the girls are beautiful, and specially welcomes Asians and Arabians (Becuase they usually spend a lot of money there). In both places, there is an admission fee of R$ 30, but if you talk to the security guy, promising to buy one bottle of whisky (USD 60), he will let you go in. To take a girl out, you have to pay R$ 60 to the cashier and this is not a part of the girl fee. You have to negotiate, but most girls would be happy with R$ 150 (about USD 50).
There is a third boate, but mothing to be compared with first two.
So, if you have chance to go there, don't miss Cristal or Sex Appeal... Once at those places, just relax and have fun! Good luck, everybody

Suspected al-Qaida leader arrested in Pakistan was in Brazil in 1995
Mon Mar 10,12:02 PM ET

By ADALID CABRERA LEMUZ, Associated Press Writer

BRASILIA, Brazil - Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the suspected No. 3 al-Qaida leader captured in Pakistan this month, spent 20 days in Brazil in 1995 and probably stayed in an area considered a haven for arms traffickers and smugglers, according to Brazilian (news - web sites) federal police.

Mohammed entered Brazil with a tourist visa on Dec. 4, 1995 and left on Dec. 24, said a federal police official, who declined to be identified, citing an ongoing investigation.

Federal police believe Mohammed probably stayed in or around Foz do Iguacu, a city 930 miles (1,500 kilometers) southwest of Brasilia, near Brazil's borders with Argentina and Paraguay.

The official said federal police agents have been sent to the city to investigate a possible link between Mohammed and a number of Islamic groups headquartered in the so-called "tri-border" region.

The region, long been considered a haven for arms traffickers, smugglers and counterfeiters, is home to about 20,000 Lebanese Muslims and has been described by the U.S. State Department as a "focal point for Islamic extremism in Latin America."

Until recently, Brazilian authorities denied there was any evidence of terrorist activity in the tri-border region.

That began to change in April, after police arrested terror suspect Mohammed Ali al-Mahdi Ibrahim Soliman in the region at the request of Egyptian authorities.

Soliman is believed to be a member of the Al-Gama'at Al-Islamiyya terrorist group that killed 58 foreign tourists in the Egyptian city of Luxor in 1997.

Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the suspected mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks, was captured March 1 in a joint raid by Pakistani and CIA (news - web sites) operatives on a house in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

He most likely flew into Rio and had a great time at Help.
20 days seems like a monger trip to me.

But I'm glad he has been captured

a friend went to Iguaçu a few days ago. He paid R$ 1050 for 3 days 2 nights in single room, flight with Vasp from Rio via Curitiba.

Package deal from travel agency.

Varig or Tam costs a surcharge.

By Volker39 on Sunday, August 03, 2003 - 10:22 am:  Edit

R$ 1050.- for a Foz Package (air roundtrip, 3 nights) are definitely overpriced. Some FOZ tips (inside information, as a girlfriend of mine is operating a travel agency there):

FLIGHTS:

Prices relatively high due to Varig/Tam monopoly (roundtrip around 600 R$, but cheaper if purchased as package tour). A mostly unkown option is the local carrier OCEAN AIR, which operates from Rio and Sao Paulo to CASCAVEL (140 km from Foz). Roundtrips as cheap as R$ 300.-. From CASCAVEL you can take a bus.

HOTELS

Hotels are CHEAP in FOZ, depending on the hotel between R$ 30 to R$ 100.- (USD 10.- to 30.-) per night. Reservation through a Travel agency (I recommend FRONTUR Turismo, Av. Brasil 955 and 755, ph: 045 - 523.5500) guarantees a discounted price. For all sightseeing arrangements contact CARME from FRONTUR. She is very helpful and nice (but do not flirt with her, fogs ...and don not tell her about our hobby!)

SIGHTSEEING:

Visit the cataratas (waterfalls) on Brazilian side and Argentinian side by PUBLIC BUS! The hotel staff shall advise you where to catch the bus. This give you more flexibility and is cheap. Organized tours by van are not very effective, as the busdriver pick up the passenger from every hotel .... this takes time!

THE ACTION:

Avoid the tourist sex spots such as CRISTIAL (Av. Cataratas) or SEX APPEAL (BR 115 to Cascavel/Curitiba). In both places entrance Fee R$ 25.-, 1 hour sex inside R$ 100.- and barfine as well R$ 100.- but negociable down to R$ 30.-. Girls in these places are very professional, difficult to get a GFE.

A better (and cheaper) option are restaurant-bars such as RAFRAIN CENTRO (at the beginning of Av. Brasil, one quarter vom Av. Rca Argentina). Just have a beer, look around, make eye-contact. Most of the women there are tourists from Sao Paulo, but there are also some working girls.

By Onewolf on Tuesday, August 05, 2003 - 10:11 pm:  Edit

R$1050 for a package trip to Foz is a decent price. I've recently done some checking on the Varig and TAM sites and R$1200 to R$1400 is not unusual for airfare only.

Crystal's is the ultimate tourist trap. There are virually no locals who hang out there, a bad sign. This is a very clean, modern looking club with the air conditioning cranked up to chilling temperatures and techno music blasting at the highest volumes. Remember to bring earplugs. There are usually about 25 to 30 pretty good looking women there, comparable to Frank's or La Cicciolino in Rio. If you get there before about 11PM, you may be the only customer. There is a Samba show and Rafain's, which is a huge churrascaria with a variety show after dinner, right down the road, so when dinner and the shows are over, the male tourists start filling up the place.

Ladies drinks are super expensive, I seem to remember R$25 to R$50 for non-champagne drinks and the bar fine for taking out a girl was R$50+. The women are friendly enough, but definitely professionals. The starting asking price is usually R$300 to R$400 and about as low as you can get is R$200 for 2 hours or even less. The girls are used to well off tourists who are in town for only 1 or 2 nights and may not return for a couple of years or more. Keep in mind that repeat business is not one of their priorities. You can still have a decent time, but after you've seen the falls from both Brazil and Argentina, and a couple of nights in Foz, you will be lusting to get back to Sao Paulo or Rio.

By Brazil_Specialist on Sunday, June 17, 2007 - 03:05 am:  Edit

I am in Foz do Iguaçu right now. Amazing falls. Don't miss Itaipu, the world's largest power plant, 14 000 Megawatts Capacity, huge dam.

Brought a girl, so did not check out the girl situation. I went to Paraguay, real cheap shopping at US prices, for those who are stuck living in Brazil.

I suspect that across the Paraguay border girls should be available cheaply, but did not try and sure needs good spanish and street-wiseness, as it is a real ripoff place with lots of not so violent crime

Do stay in Foz, or right at the falls in the expensive Cataratas hotel, don't stay halfway, as I did. I am in the middle of nowhere.

I'll spend a couple of days in Foz on my way from BsAs to Rio in August. You're doing it right though...I hear it's better to BYOG.

By Elgrancombo on Monday, June 18, 2007 - 11:34 pm:  Edit

I'd recommend staying or at least visiting the Argentinian side as you get a much better view of the falls. If you can get a good rate, the Sheraton is a perfect place to stay. It's pretty much right in the Falls.

By Jetzun on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 - 03:15 pm:  Edit

BS - I agree, I stayed at Cataratas. Very nice hotel and good location to the Falls.

The Argentinian side contains the majority of the Falls and there you can have a more personal interaction with them, but from the Brazilian side you can't beat the overall panoramic View. There's a saying "The falls belong to Argentina, but the View belongs to Brasil"

I'm planning a side trip to the Falls for this spring. I have a Rio GDP coming with me. Will she be able to cross into Argentinian or Paraguay? Any advice on the trip would be appriciated.

By Gibletpie on Wednesday, January 02, 2008 - 03:42 am:  Edit

According to Don, you don't want to go to Paraguay. As long as the girl has her Brazilian ID, she will be able to cross over to the Argentina side of the falls and back on the same day. She does not need a passport for that.

By Isawal on Thursday, January 03, 2008 - 01:27 am:  Edit

I was at the falls in October, it was great not to be missed. I spoke to a few locals with the same idea, to take a lady with me next time, all said it was not a problem she just needs her ID. BTW your GDP will want to go to Paraguay, the girls go shopping crazy there its hell of a cheap when compared to Brazil, give yourself half a day for her shopping trip.

Hello gentlemen!
I'am new dude here and will go to falls in the beginning of March. Can there be found termas in Igassu? And how is price level compared Rio nowadays? So is it preferred to stay overnight on Brazilian side? We planned just make trip to see falls from A side. Tell more later how it went.

By Zoner on Sunday, February 24, 2008 - 09:50 am:  Edit

After seeing the falls from Brazil & Argentina sides, have to say go see it from both sides. For more info www.iguazuargentina.com , www.braziltour.com/site/br/cidades/materia.php?id_cidade=1053

Nearby, also went to see the world's largest power plant Itaipu Dam on the Brazil - Paraguay border. For info www.itaipu.gov.br

In Foz do Iguaçu centro saw 10 SGs about 10pm on Av Brasil between Rebouças & Rui Barbosa. One quoted r50 hr, including room at hotel close by.

Walked to Roda Vida, address Marechal Deodoro 1578 (cross street Rua Xavier da Silva) across from Hotel Real. Door r5, girl r70-100 hr including onsite rm.

Next door was another bar Ivani Drinks, cover r5 com 1 cerveja, girl r40 hr + room 25. 6 uglies working.

Took taxi to casa de Vera at about 11pm saturday nite. Driver didn't know the exact location of the casa so he stopped to ask other taxi drivers. There was a "vende" sign on the gate. Noone answered the timbre. I wrote down Diamontina 222 from the street sign and number on the house (some blks off Av JK). He said it's in Jardin Petropolis. I wonder if he drove to the right place?

Then rode to Crystal, arrived 11:30pm, door r33, 15 girls, didn't see one to my liking. Only 4 customers. Taxi driver suggested Scorpion but I passed.
