Davivenda – across from el corral on san martin. This atm allowed withdrawals of 500K and possible more. May allow multiple withdrawals per day.

Bancolombia – either on cl. 4a or cl. 5 between avenida san martin (cra.2) and cra. 3. Allows 400K withdrawals, multiple times a day. perhaps three is the daily limit. th8s bank tended to give out larger bills.

Bansuperior - across from crepes and walfles on cra. 3. 400k withdrawals.

What town are you talking about? Cali, CTG, or Medellin?

San Martín is a street in Cartagena so they are in Bocagrande section of Cartagena but these banks are all over Colombia

I have had the best luck with Bancolombia. Up to 1.000.000 pesos per day - at least in Medellin.

RG, the banks i mentioned are in ctg but as gator states, those banks are also located in other colombian cities as well (i saw some in mde).

yoosin, that's good to know. I just remembered that a friend who was planning to buy an apt in ctg, took out 1,000,000 at Davivenda with one transaction. It doesn't show this amount on the touch screen as a quick option (500k was the highest amount actually shown), but it has the option for "other amounts", so....

Which cards should you use overseas?
(From ClarkHoward.com)
Clark gets asked a lot about which credit cards and ATM cards are okay to use overseas. Well, Bankrate.com has done some great research into this topic, and the absolute best company to use is Capital one. Capital One charges no fees right now when you use your credit card overseas. Two companies allow you to use your ATM for free – Citibank and HSBC. But most companies charge an arm and a leg when really it costs them nothing at all.

My preferred card oversees is a PayPal debit card. If you plan right, it is absolutely the cheapest.

It costs $1 per ATM transaction to use anywhere in the world. That's it. A lot of other cards (including Chase ATM) are charging outrageous rates, like a $3 international ATM fee PLUS 3.5 percent of the transaction. The also charge you a fee on signature based transactions (like at a restaurant).

The PayPal card actually gives you MONEY BACK on an international transaction (1.5%) if you have a preferred card (which means linking it to an active eBay account - which you can do for free).

It's simple. Sign up for PayPal. Once your account is active 45 days (maybe 60) you can get a debit card - it'll arrive in under 10 days.

If you fund the card with an instant transfer from your bank or from a credit card, they charge a 3% fee. But if you transfer from your bank account using the 3-day method (that's where the planning comes in) there ARE NO FEES.

Really not that much planning. Hey - if you need your credit card for a trip, then you can't get around the fees. But if you are funding a trip via your savings or checking account, do it the PayPal way - no sense paying fees when you don't have to

I have never been charged any fee by any Colombian bank for an ATM withdrawal. My credit union in the States has no charges either. This is important because the vast majority of Colombian ATMs allow 300K or less per withdrawal.

I was just going over my bank statment, my credit union only charged the normal $1.00 user fee for my ATM withdrawals. I used Bancolombia for most of my withdrawals.

TT.You need to shop that ATM card around some more. I have found several places that allow 400,000 to 500,000KCP and will allow multiple transactions up to your daily withdrawl limit at your bank..

Of course, if you are spending most of your time chasing pussy like a good monger, you wouldn't have time to check it out. Trust me, it is doable.

Sandman, all ATMs will allow as many transactions as you need to hit your daily limit. I am aware of some places where you can get more than 300K. But those places are becoming fewer and further between. One example-the ATM in Carulla used to allow 400K until about 7 months ago. Now it is 300K. Olympica did the same thing. The metro stations in MDE allow only 200K.

Of course the bottom line, for me, is that it makes no difference. I pay no fees.

There is an ATM at Exito Poblado that will give $500,000 in multiple transactions up to your daily limit. Next to the returns counter where they keep the shopping baskets.

I have to disagree that "all" ATMs will allow multiple transactions up to your daily limit. I have experienced several that only allow one, no matter what your daily limit. I will agree that most will, but not "all"!

The ATM Sandman is talking about is a Davivenda. They allow 500,000 withdrawals and I was able to get 2,000,000 at one time (500k back to back to back to back).

Do not confuse this with the Conavi Bank, whose ATM is right next to Davivenda at the Poblado Exito. Conavi only allows 200k at a time.

Wallstreet, in Medellin on the non new Conavi machines you can get 500,000 pesos a hit now.

On all Conavi machines in Ctg, that I have tried, they will only give you 200,000 pesos a hit, the new type Conavi machines in Medellin will only give you 200,000 pesos a hit.

Most ATMs will give you multiple transactions in a day up to your limit, but some won't, also some ATMs are programmed only to give X out to one card in a week, so for a couple of days you could get multiple transactions, then none, with that particular ATM group until the following week.

Does anyone do the prepay your credit card and make withdrawals on it method ?

I've done this all over the world and can't see Colombia being any different...but then again, my bank has announced increased fees starting May 1.
