I miss the joy of flushing toilet paper, that's it.

By Sf4dfish on Tuesday, August 02, 2005 - 04:29 pm:  Edit

Laguy, I take my chances and still flush it while in Brasil. "Roll the dice, and flush it next time"! LOL

For moi, and with garotas/gringas out of the equation, it's the food.

Up in the States I really miss the rodizios and acai.

When in Brasil, I miss "good" oriental food. Like dim sum, sushi/sashimi, noodles, and so forth....

Whole Foods and, I think, Wild Oats sell Acai. It is in the freezer section. If you can't find it in these stores you can order it through the mail from Sambazon.com. Some banana a little apple juice throw it in a blender and it's like being at Kice Suco.

Ok not quite that good but it is certainly brings a little taste of the Amazon to North America

Back home I miss

açaí
queijo coalho
caldo do feijão
a night at a samba school
caipirinhas (none of that poncey caipivodka nonsense) ;)
corações de frango
filé parmegiano
but most of all PUSSY on tap.

In Brazil I miss decent curries, and proper bacon, sausages, mushrooms, black pudding and duck eggs to make a decent Irish breakfast with.

When in Br:

Whole milk;
Sour Cream;
Sweet Corn;
Maple Syrup;
Ultra Light Cigs;
Jimmy Dean Sausage;

While in the US:
The women (of course);

Guess that could be summed up as: wine women and song!

When in Rio I miss not having my own car.

When at home I miss getting laid.

Just recently "home" (the US) after 7 months in Brasil. What did I do as soon as I got back?

1. For lunch I went out for some pizza with lots of spicy sauce, spicy italian sausage, and sprinkled the SOB with lots of hot peppers.

2. Dinner was Mexican; blue corn chicken enchiladas drenched with a spicy tomatillo sauce, and some great guacamole.

3. Took the car out for a spin on a winding road. I hadn't driven a real car in 7 months.

4. Took a really long, hot shower. Goddamn that felt good!

5. Hit the gym...tortured some out of shape muscles, played racquetball, and took a great steam.

What I'm missing about Brasil:

1. Cheap, good food: my fairly modest, crappy lunch today cost $8. I could eat three lunches in my regular "por kilo" spot in POA for that, and the food was better and healthier.

2. Fruits and sucos. For 7 months I feasted on fresh mangoes and pineapple that I bought at the weekly natural food market for next-to-nothing. Fresh-squeezed juices were a daily part of life, and acerola is not to be found back home.

3. Mostly, I miss the Brasilians. My Brasilian friends (men and women) are on average a much more fun-loving and less uptight group of people than my friends at home (hombres excluded, of course). I miss their approach to life, their ability to suffer the indignities of the chaos that is life in Brasil and still smile and believe that life is good.

I'll eventually add the women to this list, but I brought one home with me. She's here for another 5 days, so for now I'm good on that front.

OK I'll bite. In brasil I miss:

Corned Beef Hash in a can
Chili con carne
walking out of my house without having to look over my shoulder
Gyms where I do not constantly have to wait
No one asking me for "trocado"
uninterrupted sleep

What I miss when in the states:

Tight fitting clothes on nice tight bodies (naturally female)
Acai
walking out from the apartment to the hustle and bustle of rio
farmer markets across from where I stay
pagode in Vila Isabel
"suingue da mulatinha, moreninha or clarinha"
