Another plug for Don and a question. I rented a room from Don and was more than pleased with the experience. Actually, you can read all about that and more if you have the patience to go through my long trip report from January, 2003.

Now, does anyone know what happened to Don's web site? riotrips.com is now some cheesy art site for some reason.

I just returned from Rio and spent 2 weeks hanging out with Don in early July. If it is your first time, he will keep you out of trouble and teach you everything you need to know. I'll be back sooner than you think Don.

I too wish you guys well in your new endeavor. You have been so helpful to so many people that you deserve the best of luck and success.

As many of you know, Don and Rhonda have played a huge role in helping Brenda (the daughter of Cassia who was brutally murdered over a year ago and whom so many of you contributed to her fund).

Rhonda has taken Brenda to many places in Rio, made sure she is in a good school, has been responsible for dispersing funds on a monthly basis to Brendas grandmother, has taken time out of her busy schedule to teach English to Brenda and many other things. Rhonda is posting the monthly bank statements in her new place of business for all to see, will gladly give receipts for any donations and has put a donation jar (for all the coins we all hate to carry around or leave behind for the maids) at her office.

Stop by, say hello, drop your coins or a few Reais into the jar and take advantage of their new service offerings.

And, thanks to all of you that continue to support this effort. This little Brazilian girl is gonna have a chance in life.

Looks like things are really growing here.

Met up with Don again today and all I can say is, what a genuinely nice guy he is. Even when he's chillin' at Alcazar people he doesnt even know ask him for help in translation (the waiters do too sometimes) and he does it without hesitation, he's like that everywhere.

During my web browsing I came across this offer, it seem cheap $699 -- Rio de Janeiro: 5 Nights & Air from Miami or NY I paid more then that for my ticket. Has anyone used this service?

It looks like consolidator tickets to me, and the cheap prices are "cash discount" - probably not too many people are going to plunk down a big wad of hundreds to pre-pay their trip. There are a lot of taxes and other things not included, and who knows what the hotel rooms will be, even though you're supposedly picking the hotel.

Typically these types of teaser packages have hundreds more dollars in add-on fees and the like.

I e-mailed Don and a couple others that I heard about for guides, and they no longer do that, dose anyone know of any good guides in Rio to tour the night life?

Since the Rio scene is extremely well documented these days, there's not much need for a guide. If you rent from Don, you'll probably end up meeting some of us down there and most are more than happy to have a newbie tag along on a termas run or an outing to wherever.
