Didn't notice the big screen in the middle right of the bottom 2 pics? The 2 tv's in the second pic? Or the big scren in the 3rd pic?

This place has the best breakfast in RIO and the owner is very nice.
By Branquinho on Friday, November 04, 2005 - 03:40 pm: Edit |
Good breakfast? Yes. Reasonably priced? Yes. Best? No way. The buffet at the Marriott is much better.
By Athos on Friday, November 04, 2005 - 06:23 pm: Edit |
Do they show 2 early and 2 late nfl games? Marriott shows only 1, that place in Ipanema depends on the time of day or mood of the manager.

Hummmm...I do keep a bottle of "hard to find in Rio, Maple Syrup" there with my name on it but you say they have TV's there too? Guess I was always too distracted with the waitresses to notice!
Still, a geat place for breakfast and early evening "chill out" music.
Televison???... Really? Is that what that big thing over the bar/band area was?
By Bluestraveller on Friday, November 04, 2005 - 08:01 pm: Edit |
The Office is getting the DirecTV feed, which gets too early games and two late games. In addition, they get the Sunday night and Monday night games.
They are working on a plan to get all of the NFL games and a good chunk of the college football games. As well as baseball and basketball. If they can pull it off, he will definitely rock.
By Therightway on Saturday, November 05, 2005 - 06:33 am: Edit |
I stayed at the Marriott and thought it sucked but to each his own.

An FYI about the Office on NFL Sunday. There are only 2 maybe a 3rd TV in front by the door that show the NFL. The rest are Soccer, I think it was something to do with the wiring of the Satellite feed. Of the 2 main TVs, one is over the bar and the other is in the back room. The back room is an ok setup. The bar TV has 4 nice big booths which you can see in the bottom 2 pictures on the left. Sitting at the tables or the bar sucks for watching a whole NFL game. Here is the tip, you can reserve the booths and show up at kickoff and your's will be waiting for you.
BTW, I meet alot of Americans at The Office only one had heard of CH. During the 2nd Sunday I was there, a GDP was in the Office during the Dallas/Giants game - she knew a couple of the Americans there and was trying to get them to leave with her. They didn't want anything to do with her while the game was on - she didn't understand it all. I talked with her and she told me she knew nothing about the NFL or how the game was played, but she understood alot of men showed up to watch it. She paid the 10r cover fee to get in hoping she could find some work. I admired her thinking and got her phone number, but we never hooked up.

Bluelight, John told Jag and I that starting Dec. 1 the NFL will be in the New room and backroom .

This is soon to be MP-II.
This place is a close to becoming another Meia Pataca IMO (which is understandable given the proximity to Help). The food is actually pretty good, but there were are usually some of the really nasty-looking Help GDP's with their American thug-types. If you embrace the "ugly American", then this is a good place to go.
If is unfortunate too, because the guy did a
good job with the place and runs a clean kitchen.

I hate those "American Thug types"! I wish they would just go back to where they came from!!
By Ee2002 on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 - 03:31 am: Edit |
Yeah Thumper me too,lol..The nerve of those "thugs" to go to Rio wearing all that thug gear and enjoying the Rio garotas.Damn! Rio is going to shit, these days,LOL...
Anyways, IF Help closes, this might become one of the night spots if they stay open that late.
By Bluestraveller on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 - 05:33 am: Edit |
Starting in December, they are opening up a huge dance floor with big screen tv's on the right hand side of the current bar/restaurant. I have been inside and it is a fairly big area. Not as big as Help, but a decent size. He said he will stays open until the last customer leaves.
By Sandman on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 - 06:27 am: Edit |
Let's see...Help closing, John opening dance floor next to existing restaurant. I'd call that good timing and excellent business foresight!

Thumper/ee2002
If wannabe Trick Daddies want to fly 4,000 miles for some really ugly, nasty ho's then more power to them. I am just saying there is a time and place for everything.
From what I observed on several occasions was the gangsta-wearing clad was also accompanied by extremely loud, obnoxious, and and generally appalling behavior.
People saying "Fuck dat shit" every other sentence and taking digital photos of themselves exposing a a garota's breast inside a restaurant is really just disrespectul to others (especially brazilians) who attend the establishment as well for food and drink.
Brazilians don't go to Help or Meia Pataca for the circus side-show freaks because they know what those places are. But, the Office has Samba night on Saturdays where the majority of brazilians attend for food and music, often bringing children. I don't hear them yelling out loud "Foda-se, Merda, Filho de puta, etc".
For those guys that who never want to leave the 2 sq. blocks around Miguel Lemos, then I suppose there is no other way to have a good time without being obnoxious, crude and disrespectul to all around them. Afterall, there are only 12 million other people in Rio who somehow manage not being so.

Cincoleche, once again you are correct, I cant believe the nerve of these assholes. What gives them the right to take off from work and use their vacation time to travel to another country to drink beer and watch football? Who the hell do they think they are? Tourists? Actually, I wish they would just ban all those "thug types" from entering the country. Just snatch them right off the plane before they get to the immigration line and send them bastards right back to where they came from.
I am so happy you brought this up, we have to unite and do something about this before its too late! I know in the 9 years I have been going to brasil, I have NEVER seen any other foreigner from any other country act out of line. I would be shocked to hear that a German,Italian, or heaven forbid, fellow American ever did anything in Rio that was inappropriate! Its only these Puff Daddy/50 Cent wannabees that act obnoxious!

No they go to neat and respectable places like Villa Mimmosa.

Thumper,
Puff Daddy has wannabees? That's a scary fucking thought right there.

Puff Daddy has wannabees? That's a scary fucking thought right there. It is for him too, that's why he keeps changing his name.
A couple of reasons why it's only fair that these American "thug types" should be let into the country.
1) Their "bling" is helping make Brazilian mining companies more profitable. Or is it the counterfeiters in China??
2) How else will O Globo get willing participants dumb enough to co-operate in its periodic "sex tourist" exposes.
3) They make the rest of us look good!

Sometimes when the old lady is busy I go to copa and hang out Ive met a few of them and they are a riot , never had a bad experience we are all there for pussy anyway , and copa is for the most part a shithole they didnt make it that way just young guys having some fun. they remind me more of three -six mafia than puff daddy though especially with the accents

Ardgneas! My Man!! I bet a fellow monger that you would definately post on this topic before the weekend was over, you just won me 5 bucks!!
"Any minute now! That bus is never late"
Anyway, back to the subject. I have been to the office twice, once to watch sunday football and once for breakfast. Great experience both times! The food is very good and the service was excellant, will definately return in future trips.

I second Thumpers comments. I ate breakfast here several times and watched a couple of games while I was there last week. There were a large number of "Brothers" there, but they acted like gentelmen and we had a great time debating various sports and athleletes. I had no problems at all and I loved the free wireless.
BTW, DON'T get the pork ribs, they had very little meat and were dry....a complete oposite of MBL, I hear
Yeh, I know....Fuck you Val! LOL
By Balldo on Monday, November 21, 2005 - 11:12 am: Edit |
I watched the Giants Philadelphia game in the back room on Sunday. It was a blast. I thought it was a great set up and ther food was really good. The brothers did get a little loud. OK....really loud, but they acted just fine. One local expat says he goes there every Sunday and it was the loudest he has ever heard it...OK....they were REALLY LOUD!
They were really nice to me as I sat right next to them.
There were several GDP in the house trying to scare up some business and were obviosly bemused by our antics. A couple were actauuly doable.
I am going back tonight for the Packers Vikings...more later.

OK. I get it already! Please no more. For those who are still curious.
If you are down in Rio and trying to avoid black people, then perhaps you might not like the Office, since it is also popular with black Americans.
Please no more condescending comments about black people. It does not respect this board, black people or the Office. As if black people are the only ones that make a lot of noise watching a football match.

I can confirm they have 4 tvs, 2 on brasileiro futebol, 1 at entrance and 1 in second floor. they have a good Sony projector but best seats are the booth. Other nfl tv is a flat tv monitor so you get good picture and sound but I hate those flattened image as no hdtv signals. Food is ok and fairly expensive. Crowd was pretty quiet. Wear pants as AC full blast. So decent place but not enough seating.

Does anyone know if the Office (or any other bar) will be showing the pay-per-view UFC fight on Sat. night?
By Branquinho on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 - 02:03 pm: Edit |
Extremely doubtful. Places in Rio don't do pay-per-view.
By Lovingmarvin on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 - 10:00 pm: Edit |
Not sure if they show pay-per-view events, but the owner has feeds from the US, basically a huge bandwidth "slingbox" set-up. You might want to call and check. In one of the older posts it states that the office does not have enough seating - there are actually two places within the office and one is rather large. The first part of the office is the smaller restaurant. If you walk to the back of the restaurant you will notice an entrance. That entrance is to the nightclub, which generally is open towards the end of the week after 10:00pm. There is actually a pretty good crowd of regular local Brazilians (no, I am not talking GDP's) in there on the weekends. There is a cover to enter, which is minimal like R$10.00. Great live band. Nice place to hang-out. fyi - The Office is closed on Monday's. Nice place!
