I had driven past this hotel a couple of times and it looked nice enough. San Isidro is the next neighborhood over from Miraflores, and if anything, is a little more upscale. Their web site mentions their suites and that they had a Banos Turcos on site, so I figured that they were guest friendly, as well. I called and reserved a suite for $50 per night for the two nights (the web site says the room is $120). I confirmed the reservation on Thursday, and they said that I was good to go.

The cab rolls up to the hotel, the front desk claims to be expecting me, I check in and am upstairs in my room by 11:30. The room is a little small, I think, for a suite, but there's a couple of couches, a nice firm bed, a TV, and it is clean. It turns out that I can also pick up a non-hotel supplied wireless signal, so I figure that I can make do. It's only two nights, I think and decide to deal with it in the morning.

...

Despite my late night on Friday, I woke up fairly early (about 9) and got ready to start my day. My first stop was the front desk to see how they can possibly call this room a 'suite'.

They're very nice people, so I turned off the Ugly American act and simply asked, "How much is my room?". "Thirty dollars," she promptly replied.

Well, that made sense. I didn't have a suite, and a regular room went for $30. I must have mentioned 'suite' ten times in making the reservation and confirming, and the girl was the one who said $50, but I had an OK room in an OK hotel (with a Banos Turcos) for $30, so who was I to complain? My next question was even easier: "Where's the Banos Turcos?" The answer was equally simple: "Oh, in the other hotel."

OTHER HOTEL??? Now I was more confused. The phone number on the website matched the number on the business card, and when I dialed it, the phone rang at the front desk. The business card (with **this** hotel's address) and the web site mentions the Banos Turcos Spa. I give up - there are just some things I guess that I'm not supposed to understand. All that aside, I would stay at this hotel again. For $30, it's perfectly fine.

This hotel also has a penthouse that takes up the entire top floor. I checked it out last week. It has a sauna, jacuzzi, pool table, bar and a bed that is at least the size of two king beds together. It would make a hell of a place for a party, that's for sure. It could easily accommodate 40 people, maybe more. I think that they quoted me $220 per night, but I am guessing that it is negotiable.

Looking at these hotels, I like this one:
It has inroom jazuccis, king size beds and overlooks the ocean.

But it is in San Isidro which looking at the map looks pretty close to the action but is it close enough to walk to Pizza Alley? I'm assuming it is guest friendly because it is listed here, does anyone know firsthand?

RT here.

The Suites Hotel Inkari is (in my opinion) the perfect mongering hotel with one exception: LOCATION.

It is a 5-7 Sol cab ride to the Parque Central area and is definitely NOT walking distance, unless you're out to kill an hour or so on a nice afternoon.

I do not recommend it for a first-time visitor, but for a second or third visit (once you get the lay of the land), it is ideal.

It could not be girl-friendlier. You could parade a herd of sheep past the front desk, and they wouldn't blink an eye, as long as the sheep were over 18. I've been propositioned by girls leaving other rooms/parties in the lobby. It's a free-for-all. They do call up to the room when a girl leaves to make sure that she didn't cut you open and steal your liver or pancreas or anything.

A place with a similar feel (but with a smaller room service menu) is the Hotel Lexus in Miraflores. Much more walkable (but not right on top of the Pizza Alley area -- maybe a 10-15 minute hike) with similar-priced rooms. Down side: no air conditioning (I think) and they wouldn't just run a voucher for my credit card -- I had to pay in advance. One nice touch: I called up for a sandwich to my room at three in the morning, and the 60-year-old bellman offered to get me a girl if I wanted. I felt like I was in an old '50s movie.

The Inkari is a better facility overall, but you might want to give the Lexus a try on a first visit. I think that I paid around $40 for a room with a jacuzzi. The room was fairly large.

Both places are about a block from some really good ice cream, so that's a toss-up.

Have fun. It's nice to see someone doing their homework.

Cebu98,

I have no doubt that what Latinalover claims is true.
He did make one typo; "And all the women in Lima will scurry for cover." should read scurry to get UNDER the covers with him. Your attention to this is most appreciated.........

Speaking of hotels in Lima and their location, how is the location of the Sheraton? Also, any guest- friendly issues?

By Copperfieldkid on Friday, April 11, 2008 - 08:24 am:  Edit

Cebu 98,

the hot girls are in Miraflores! And I told them all that if they see another Gringo to run! I am in Rio presently enjoying the much higher prices and inflation here. It certainly isnt what it used to be........

Laguy, the only Sheraton location I know of is in Centro, across from the Courthouse (they call it justice bldg I believe) In any case if thats the location it is not whatyou want. Either stay in Miraflores or San Isidro.

CFK, tell us a little of whats going on down there? i will be there in 2 weeks. can you still get anything decent for 200 reals? did the prices at the restaurants go up too? or is it just the exchange rate? ..JR

By Copperfieldkid on Saturday, April 12, 2008 - 06:41 am:  Edit

JR,
you can get nice ST for 200R, havent gone for an all nighter yet so will find out, word is they are all asking 500R, donīt know where the bottom line is on that. Prices seem to have gone up in resturants and certainly the grocery stores (other goods also) but the main factor is the exc rate. Right now 1.70: 1 Definitly noticible.

See JohnShaft's post on the S. America forum - you absolutely don't need to pay those prices. I had the best-looking girl of my whole trip for 150R in March.

By Copperfieldkid on Sunday, April 13, 2008 - 12:22 pm:  Edit

Had an excellent one last night for 150R, a real racehorse, built for speed! A spinner with an ass so tight and stomach so flat you could bounce a dime off her! A nice TA pick..........

This should really be in the SA discuss(but answering JR was the result)
