This is a general post for anyone wishing to reply.

Is anyone in the situation where your girlfriend may have the need to call you while staying at the Mansion, and you want to keep it from her that you are staying there?

My situation is this, my girlfriend (USA) may need to call me while in Medellin. I have told her that I am staying at the Torre Poblado apartments when I am really staying at the Mansion.

I did this because if I told her I was staying at the Mansion, it would be evident of my purpose for the trip if she went to the website for any reason. The Torre Poblado apartments website is all in Spanish and frankly would make my trip look more.....innocent.

What is problematic is that if she calls the place and I am not there, she won't be able to get in touch with me.....I'm cooked.

I need a way for her to reach me, without letting her know where I am staying. The last thing I need to have her do is call the Mansion and someone answers "Medellin Mansion...sorry Sniper is with a hooker right now, can I have him call you back?"

I am really good at covering my tracks but frankly I've never stayed at a place made for Mongerer's, I always stay at a normal hotel.

Anyone's suggestions would be great.

You could tell her that Torre Poblado was overbooked. You had to stay at another place. Buy or rent a cell phone to receive calls.

Are the cell phones fairly reliable.

I was going to tell her that I went to the apartments and thought they were a dump and moved on.

I would wait until I got back and tell her. If she called the apartments and found that I wasn't there, my statement that I moved would support me not being there. She would get mad that she couldn't reach me but that would be better than the alternative.

If the cell phones are easily reached via US phones, I could rent it and email her the phone number. Can you call and receive calls fairly easily from the US?

Sniper, tell her the apts were a dump, you moved to another one, which is very nice, but there is no phone there, tell her you looked at several apts and there were no phones at most of them, to most people, Colombia is a third world Country, so they will believe it, ask her to stay in touch via the internet and if necessary to speak to her, you will contact her from a telephone shop, there are a lot of them here (well a few really), because a lot of apts don't have phones.

Don't be pussy wipped gringo, you can't stay in touch end of story.

Unfortunately not staying in touch is not an option. She runs my business when I'm gone. Sometimes she needs to reach me fairly quickly.

But your suggestion is good about telling her there were no phones in the room.

Are the cellphones you can rent or buy international? That may be an option.

The cell phones are reliable enough. I use mine to call the US and receive calls from the US. There is no charge to receive calls. The rates are not good to call the US, but they are okay for short calls.

The last cell phone I bought cost me around 80K(about US$35), and I got 100K worth of minutes for free. You might run into a hassle if you don't have a permanent address in Colombia. Just keep shopping. Someone will make the sale. Bring your passport and two passport photos.

Sniper

since you are staying with us,we will offer you a loaner cell, we provide a few on a first come first serve basis

if you need the number now i could send it to you
cellulars are very reliable receiving calls from the States, the best reception is from Comcell, so i will make sure i have one of those for you,i will explain to you exactly how she would have to dial when you get here, since is a little confusing since cellulars in Colombia have their own prefix

I have many married guys stay with me, and i either let them use my very own personal voip phone or i block the number, so it wont appear on a caller ID
