Hey Guys,

I just had a Biblical stay in Medellin. Turned out it was 40 days and nights. My experience with the security guys at Fase ll was, hell they were all nice guys. The big guy inside there, it's his job to keep an eye on everyone.

Yep, returning for 6 weeks Sept 1st, and staying at the Mansion. I didn't ask Greg or Robert to hold my hand, and yes, my Spanish is quite limited. It was funny, Radio was giving me hell saying my Espanol had an Eastern Kentucky accent.

GAng, I obviously has a blast.

There is also an assumption that people want to get out and know the real Medellin. Well for some, all that is to know is at MM and the rest of Poblado. Not that there is a whole lot to see or do in Medellin anyhow.

Yes, the MM is like a frat party! Except, Greg tries to keep it peaceful at night.

As it was my first trip in April/May, the prospect of wandering around Medellin solo was daunting. The Mansion eases you in. Even with all the baby sitting, some people still manage to demand more baby sitting and not have a good time.

I did meet some Colombianas that showed me around. They kept telling me how dangerous parts of town that we were in are. I was oblivious/unaware of any, but they assured me that the areas we were wandering around in were dangerous.

I walked in the poor sections of Medellin with Natalia from the Mansion with no problem.

If you recall, she is the pregnant one (she may have already had the baby).

But Scrubb is correct, Medellin isn't much of a sightseeing city. They have a few things, but not really much.

There is plenty to do during the day, plenty of shopping, looking at non-pros, that military range that the MM goes to, and other stuff. Its just not the mecca of things to do like Rio.

That being said, I don't think you really need the Mansion to have a good time. But if you get a really good group at the MM or Club VIP or anywhere else. You will have a great time. It is good for solo travelers to have a built in group where you at least have someone to bullshit with besides a bunch of hookers laying around waiting for you to fuck them for money.

I tend to travel in a pack with 3 or 4 more people. So we tend to dominate wherever we are staying.

It will be interesting to see what happens at the MM when I travel solo in a few weeks.

I suspect if there is a good group there, it will be great. If there are a bunch of heavy drinkers that just fight and cause mayhem, it will not be as fun.

Eitherway, I look forward to finding a condo to buy and becomming more self sufficient.

You may get kidnapped by columbian rebels also.. Dont worry though. they will let you go on the first holiday with all your gear.

Neither of you is correct. And the countryside is pretty interesting as well. Have you ever been to Sabaneta, Guarne, or Parque de Las Aguas? The area around MDE is pretty safe.

I believe Medellin has 2 million people. So does the Bay Area in California. But there is much more for a tourist to see here.

Look gents, to each his own. If you are an experienced South American traveler with good spanish, you probably do not need the Mansion. But I prefer the Mansion because it is like home to me, I know all the people, I know where they keep the coffee mugs at 6am, and I like meeting some of the guys that share my love of chicas. We share war stories, make fun of each other, and make new friends. I did enjoy making fun of Relapse Kentucky Spanish.

But don't get me wrong. I have been to the underbelly of Medellin. I just don't care to STAY there. Visit yes...stay no. One night I was forced to stay on the side of a hill in a little house where the orphanage was because it was too dangerous to leave. Trust me, I know that side of it. I just prefer to stay where I feel a bit safer...and where there is hot water, and if I want to go for a dip in the pool I can.

On my last trip I helped my chicas find a new apartment in Las Cabanitas. They were getting kicked out of their old place and were freaked out because they could not find a new apartment. So I said...get in the fucking cab....and we went and searched. Took about an hour to find a nice four bedroom re-furbished apartment with two bathrooms, each with a shower. The monthly rent is 450K, less than $200 bucks. I kid you NOT. It is a nice neighborhood...but no gringos go there. Quiet street, nice neighbors. The chicas loved the place. Next time I go there they are begging me to stay there with them, so maybe I will. It is on the other side of Medellin from El Poblado, near Bello. Medellin is a big city with LOTS to see and do, if you get away from El Poblado. But I also like El Poblado because of all the conveniences of home. The Mall down the hill from the Mansion is one of the best I have ever seen and there is a MacDonalds there for Gods Sake. No need to worry about food.

If you are new to Medellin, I still suggest the Mansion or El Castillo. I think the cheapest room there is like $35 bucks a night. You get a free breakfast...free internet and US phone calls, and the comaraderie of like minded guys who can help steer you in the right direction. If you wanna make a run to Fase Dos there is usually a couple of guys who will go with you. It just makes for more fun...and again I admit I have become friends with Robert and Greg who run these places and they are great guys.

For newbies who may not know where to find the chicas...they always help at the Mansion and/or El Castillo. They have a black book of girls they can call...and they have business cards for all the massage places and the clubs at night. If you need some hand holding, they are prepared to help.

But if you don't need that help...stay wherever the fuck you want. You may not find the chicas...but you will still have fun. It is hard NOT to have fun in Medellin. There may be some other places some guys can suggest. I don't know cause I have only stayed at these two places. I can only suggest what I know. Best of luck to all. Just keep the prices down and don't be stupid. Crime is still there and you have to watch your back.

Despite my fucked up Eastern Kentucky Spanish, I am on the same wave length as Radio. I had fun, and am going back!!!

Hell, one night CTg2006 and I went to San Diagos. I wanted to head to Fase ll, but he was making time with a chica. Rule #1, never leave your wingman. I stayed untill later, a friend came in so I didn't leave him solo. Later, the 2 of them came down to Fase ll.

I wasn't with them when they were headed back to the Mansion. Appears they stopped to talk to some street girls. Turns out the street girls were transvestites, and Ctg2006 got his cell phone stolen. He was pissed, but I told him that was what happens when one breaks Rule #1.

Damn, we did have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ctg2006: Can't wait to read your report. You have some incredible stories to tell and it will be very valuable to all considering making a run down there. As you may be starting to see there are more reports here about medellin all the time. My biggest concern is too many gringos going down there and turning it into Costa Rica.

Radio....I know how much you love to stay at the Mansion....but in all fairness give Club VIP a shot.....i think you might dig it... Just had a couple of people from the Mansion move over here....of course they toured the place before deciding.

Side Note: When your staying somewhere, make sure youre being charged the TRM rate for that day....latley this has been an issue with other places people have stayed at. As of today the TRM rate was 2,512 Pesos to the dollar...The dollar is getting stronger and this is good for all gringos

BTW: No Matter where you stay if anyone is here on July 15th, PM me and i will give you a free ticket to my electronic music event...It will be the biggest event this summer and right at the end of Colombian Moda....All the beautiful Models will be comming to this event and it should be alot of fun.

Not exactly. A new chica moved in with them named Erika that I instantly fell in lust over. It made Ana jealous, so we split up and Ana moved to Bogota. But Erika took her place, so I am still helping the chicas in their apt. venture.

Wing Man, rule number 1? The stop to visit the transvestites was not my idea of fun. Unfortunately, I was riding "shot gun" instead of driving and regret that I was in the car. This event will be part of my comprehensive and factual report that will be posted in the near future. As far as Medellin goes, anyone who knows more than 10 words of spanish can meet more women then any one man can handle. I've proved that over and over again! More to follow.
