The Luxor Regente has been the love nest of choice all year, but I have been invited by our company's
client to stay at the Le Meridian (close to Barbarella). Has any one stayed there, how is the in and out with the ladies?

Haven't stayed there but I think it's a pretty good bet you won't make it to the elevator with a girl that looks like a gdp. I would think your chances drop even more in direct proportion to the darkness of her skin as well.

damn, that is exactly what I did not want to hear, but I knew it. I pick then wisely, and march to the elevator like we own the place

Kind of like Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" when they left the stage show, holding on to the railing and trying to walk away. Their only chance is that if they are soooooooo surreal that nobody reacts in time. Whaddya think?

Landfall,
Is your company's client paying for it? If so, with the Brasilian Big Eye always in effect, is it that smart to bring a hooker into a very nice non-friendly hotel when there is a good chance it could be reported back to your client? Rule of thumb - if you're traveling solo and putting the room on your credit card to expense afterwards, do what you want. If you're there with another person or a group, or if the hotel charges are going on someone elses bill, don't bring your women back to the hotel. How would you explain a guest charge showing up on the bill? Or just a comment about guests in general?
When you say your company's client invited you to stay there, I assume you meant they would be paying for it. If it's just a place they recommend, I suggest just going to a different hotel. If you want to drop the big bucks on a hotel then go to the Marriott which follows US rules and is thus garota-friendly. If you are going to stay at the Meridian, then just hit termas and if you want an agency girl or plan on picking a garota up in Help or elsewhere, just hit a love motel.

Complexities:
The client is the guy I work for, he is been to Sao Paulo once and got a take home girl from Millennium.
But he wanted the big hotel in Rio for Carnival. This is where the Le Meridian comes in. Me on the the other hand have done quite well with the Luxor Regente in bringing the girls home. And C Club, Solarium, 65 all suits me well, but my client doesn't like.
damn, again
and SF, I like the Fear and Loathing comment. I know you are laughing at my predicament.
I new at this web site, but travel well. I'm going to load a pic from the december 06 trip.

Just read in the paper today that the Meridien is changing ownership. The restaurant on the top is closing at the end of this month, and then they are shutting down for remodeling starting on Aug 1. They are being bought by a Spanish company and changing names.

simple solution. go to one of the 100+ love motels in rio.

So what's the deal with the business hotels in Rio these days? (ie. Marriott, Copa Palace, Meridien, etc) Do they allow female "guests" or do they frown on that? Truthfully, it's been since the late 90's that I was in Rio and am scheduled to return early in Q2.

Le Meridien is not girl friendly at all. As far as the Marriott no problem there.

Interesting about Le Meridien changing names. Starwood recently took over the Le Meridien chain; apparently either they didn't want the Rio property or the Rio property didn't want them.

I guess they figure they already have two Sheratons in Rio, although Leme is pretty far from the one in Leblon/Gavia. Certainly no problem with turning it into a Sheraton, quality should be about the same or better.
