I'm planning on staying three or four weeks in Rio and Parati in October. I'm older at 55, but very handsome, sexy looking, intelligent and charming, no trouble performing, sort of best of age class. In the US I do well attracting 40 something women, but find younger women aren't too interested. I'm interested in 30 somethings in Brazil, is that realistic? I'm learning Portuguese which is also part of my plan, but am still beginning level.

Finding women is on my agenda, but I've never paid for one in my life. I'm traditional in that I don't want a commercial experience. I like sweet, charming female company as much as sex. Although I may hit a terma once just to say I did it, I'm really looking more for a temp girl friend(s) situation. I've made some initial contacts on AFF, Yahoo Brazil, and Match, and was surprised that the response was quite good, including a few real quality women from what appears to be higher social classes. Are Brazilian women interested in the likes of me for what I have in mind, month long or several weeks of no string attached flings, companionship and sex? Or am I fooling myself? I intend to be honest about that.

As I'm not going to monger, where should I stay, Ipanema? Does anybody have any suggestions there? Will I have trouble bringing girl friend types into the hotels for over nights? Where should I hang out? What are some fun girl friend activities?

By the way I also am in my 50s and have always done well with the ladies, but I don't agree with the statement you have never paid, everyone knows free pussy is the most expensive, both monitarily and emotionaly.

Just give in and monger! On my 1st visit to Rio in 2000, I had no intention of mongering - I had never paid for sex before and always had good luck with the women. Well after a week of partying and seeing the tourist sights, we finally stumbled upon a terma our last night in town. I was a changed man!

There's something really nice about explicitly paying for sex and not having to entertain the chick or worry about her (although the garotas do a great job of acting like they really like you).

ElGrancombo is right. if this is just for a few weeks you will have a very hard time finding a lady that you can connect with who isn't a program girl past or present. If you are moving there ~ get a tutor and go on the dating websites like yahoo encontros.

Most Cariocas view a brasilian women with a Foreigner as a program girl. Many Regular women will shy away from hanging out with you for this reason.

LB - I disagree - I have lived in Rio for the last few years and most cariocas do not view a brasilian woman with a foreigner as a program girl. It really depends on the girl. Some truly look and dress like a GDP, hence that is how they will be perceived. If you find a non-GDP "good girl" type, they will dress much more modestly. It is all about appearances here... and, unfortunately race. White Brazilians are racist - if you are dating black woman then you might get a few stares if you are a white foreigner as she will be perceived as a GDP. Date a modestly dressed white brazilian and this not the case. Very unfortunate, but realistic. The main thing to overcome is the language barrier. Plenty of single women here.... Also, you will not meet a marrying type in 'Help' or places frequented by GDP's. It is always funny for me to hear guys telling me that they have trouble meeting regular girls, but yet they only frequent areas with working girls.

My novia has tons of single and attractive friends that are looking for a "good guy". The latter is very difficult for most to find, since most single Carioca men do not want serious relationships. I have also met (and left) many fantastic women along the way.

The issue with meeting regular girls really boils down to the following:

1) Language barriers
2) Not every Brazilian wants to move to USA. They have family and circle of friends.
3) Some are reluctant to date a foreigner because they will eventually leave and long distance relationships are difficult

Yahoo Encontros is a good way to get started meeting women before you trip begins.

Also, keep realistic expectations. If you are looking for that pefect '10' Garota de Ipanema, you better have the looks to go along with it. Age wise, there are tons of single and beautiful women in their early thirties (or even late 20's) that are a great catch.

...... but learn some Portuguese if you are serious about meeting someone! This will expand your options 10 fold!

If you live in Rio, it's one thing to date non-pros. However, if you're coming down for a few weeks or a month, don't speak a word of the language and know zero about the culture, I would say you have about a zero chance of scoring with a non-pro.

Pop, you're certainly going to have an interesting time no matter what happens. I got involved in this sport late in life and encourage you to let loose and partake in the pro scene. I have no doubt you'll manage using your tried and true techniques to land a few temporary girlfriends, but why not live it up?

You definitely have to hit the thermas. Once you experience that adventure you'll be in a better position to appreciate what you've been missing. I swear it's a carnal cornucopia. There's always the chance you'll meet a girl with whom you connect and meet after hours - or go away for the weekend.

Parati, by the way, is terrific if you want something a bit laid back.
