First off, let me introduce myself to Club Hombre. I new here. I spoke to a friend the other day about Medellin and he mentioned this site so I thought I'd check it out.
Ok, now back to my post.
What do you all tell your friends, family and co-workers about your trips to Medellin? Do you lie to loved ones?
I don't like to lie to anyone, really, but thought that this site would be a good way of helping you introduce them to Medellin, helping explain your reasons for traveling to Colombia, especially to the murder capital of the world!! Yeah right!! Check it out http://www.medellintraveler.com
Okay now, what lies do you all tell?

I tell people it is a place you can go to avoid ugly American tourists. For some reason, everyone can understand that.
They still think I'm crazy.

I had the reaction from my family and friends "Why in the hell would you want to go to Colombia". I just told everyone that I wanted to take a vacation were very few people had been. I told them I had throughly researched where to go and Colombia sounded like the perfect place. They still thought I was nuts but they didnt question me anymore on it. I pm ed you with my email so that I can send you the newest version of my guide it has a bunch of cool non-mongrering things to do that you could show them.
Hey Sniper
A little over a month and i'll be back in the "City of Eternal Spring" myself.

I tell my friends(and my wife) that I can go there to buy things to sell on ebay. I actually do this and make a little bit of money in the process so she is happy.

I just say I'm going to check out places that I've never seen before. I don't lie at all, not about where I'm going. I don't divulge everything, I mean it's no ones business.
It helps to be a world traveler and off the charts 4 to 5 time a year as well, but I have to say mostly Americans seem to not understand this wanderlust.
I am American and only get questions from my hommies. My european friends never get any interrogation. I think our society is more paranoid about anywhere out side the USA bubble.
I was in downtown BKK when they burned Central World, right in the Red Shirt camp. And honestly, it was nothing. There are city blocks all over Los Angeles that freak me out more then 90% of the State Departments "Don't travel list"
And no I'm not including the middle east. Thats a no fly zone for me unless I'm in a Blackwater caravan. LOL
The world is an amazingly interesting place, even without the mongering I would go to every place I travel too. Who wouldn't?
Wanderlust!
