Medellin Going Down Hill Fast!

ClubHombre.com: South America: Colombia: Advice/Questions/Commentary: Medellin Going Down Hill Fast!

By Kickboxer151 on Friday, March 21, 2008 - 08:52 pm:  Edit

Ok Guys: Tried to post this on the ISG site but it is way "over censored" by the owner as I and many feel he is trying to protect certain hotel owners (friends of his) in regards to their business by trying ti keep the vacancy rate up!

Bottom line. The Peso is way down! Price of Pussy has gone higher! NO one ever really posts anymore as well has the photo gallery. Looks like the gringo wave messed up that city too! Can anyone say "Costa Rica"?

Just my opinion, Whats yours?

By Keeper on Friday, March 21, 2008 - 10:52 pm:  Edit

my opinion is this is not a trip report.

try the discuss section or main south america thread.

By Baypilot on Saturday, March 22, 2008 - 02:17 am:  Edit

I agree, either that or can you elaborate on your experience a bit? What were the pros asking for up front? Were you negotiating? I agree that the peso is definitely not what it was a couple of years ago.

By Gooch, RTGooch on Saturday, March 22, 2008 - 05:22 am:  Edit

I agree with Keeper and Baypilot. This is not a TR. Hombre, please move this to the discussion threads.

Kickboxer, you've been a member here since December, 2006. This is HALF of all your posts. And then you come here and complain about a) Censorship elsewhere and b) that no one ever posts.

16 months on Club Hombre - 2 posts -- no pictures? You've been there enough times to complain that the peso is 'way down'? Maybe you're part of the problem?

Now, as to the guy's point -- there's a definate patterm in cities in foreign lands where business spring up that cater and hold the hand of the male traveler then get the "this place sucks and isn't as good as it used to be" posts two years later.

That's what happens when you send amateurs in to do a profesional's job. They over pay and under-represent.

However, this guy's been a paying member of CH for 16 months. I suppose that if he pays his money, he can pretty much think and post what he wants.

By Lamuerte on Saturday, March 22, 2008 - 06:51 am:  Edit

KB, would also be interested in having you elaborate on your point. I know that you were previously a tout for the VIP (one of the mongering B&Bs in Medellin), and that in the past you've posted with the "Medellin and the VIP is great, but the Mansion sucks" angle.

I don't say that to disparage your input, but what's your angle now?

I do very much agree about the censorship and horrible, biased moderation over at ISG in the Colombia thread and would bet the house that this very much has to do with personal agenda. You CANNOT say any criticism whatsoever EVEN if you might feel its unbiased or constructive in certain threads, Which I feel is B.S. Then he makes you buy a complete another membership to the ARGENTINA board where I heard he lives. People are less likely to BUY another subscription and so hence less EYES looking at the Argentina thread. Why does he not include it in his regular subscription? Does he want to keep Argentina as his personal playground as he say people are trying to do with Colombia, calling anybody with a negative thread in one of his proprietors threads as a "serial antagonist" What an a-hole.

By Wnose on Saturday, March 22, 2008 - 10:04 am:  Edit

A gringo wave is what you see on the British Airways flight to Bangkok 3/4 days before Christmas Eve. IMO, the YEARLY volume of mongers going to Medellin is not even 10% of the DAILY volume of mongers going to Bangkok for their year end bender.

As such, we're only a drop in the bucket compared to the other customers in Medellin. With or without us, life in Medellin goes on. Price have gone up in some cases (Face dos, etc) compared to 2 years ago but otherwise prices for casas has not changed signficantly. Learn some spanish and bargain - you might even get better service as a result.

By Furysys on Saturday, March 22, 2008 - 01:24 pm:  Edit

Wnose, you are absolutely right. We cannot do anything about the currency fluctuations, what I noticed for sure is with even a cursory knowledge of Spanish, one can go to the cheaper casas and have a great time. Last time I went (december 07) Energy was 85k ($45) for fs(covered). Where I live, two beers and chicken wings costs that. I'm not complaining.

By Kdogg21 on Saturday, March 22, 2008 - 02:53 pm:  Edit

I think the price of pussy is about the same. Of course I mostly go to the centro casas where it is 40-60K an hour. Plus mayorista and maraciabo at night. Occasionally San Diego. THe peso price at those places has not changed since I started going in 2006. The fact I could get 2200 pesos to the dollar when I started and it is under 1800 now is another matter, nothing to do with gringos going to Medellin.

By Radioman on Sunday, March 23, 2008 - 03:50 pm:  Edit

Now you did it. I must go back to Medellin. I must find a street chica and fuck her brains out for 20,000 pesos. I must do it, for the good of the board. Like Lewis and Clark, I must return. I see my job is not yet finished.

By the way, 20,000 pesos used to be $9 dollars. Today it is a little over $11 dollars. Oh My God, what has happened to my favorite city. The street girls are now ripping us off, and charging us $11 bucks a fuck instead of $9. That means that the $100,000 chicas I used to screw at the mansion are now costing us $55 bucks!

I have to go investigate this!

RM, you are still more than welcome, but I nailed a street girl for 20K about 2 months ago near your favorite area in Centro. In all fairness, it did cost 10K for the room.

Funny, I see no Gringos in my estrato 4 barrio unless I look in the mirror.

I don't care what anyone says, I LOVE Medellin, it is one of my favourite cities in the world. Beautiful women, great music, restaurants, everything cheap, friendly people...I even like the metrolinea.

By Sobe9ball on Monday, March 24, 2008 - 12:23 pm:  Edit

EVERYTHING CHEAP? I think we will have some people disagreeing with you.. Some things are really cheap like Butter or Dairy products and other things are a nightmare like a small pancake syrup for 8mil. And as for the poontang MDE is going the way of Costa Rica unfortunately. SIMPLE ANSWER? People are going to new places RIGHT NOW AS WE SPEAK and keeping their MOUTHS SHUT! Just to be shared with family and close friends. Maybe even some of US our doing that as well.. lol

Yeah, don't come to Medellin. Prices are rising faster than a Viagra hard on, women are getting fat with all the McDonalds (and finally a new Burger King at Tessoro), none of em want gringo boyfriends anymore because of all the stories from MM, VIP and other places.

Stay home or got to BKK, Pattaya, AC, Cambodia or other places where your dollar goes farther.

That will just leave more for the rest of us....LOL.

RM- Come on down anytime. The girls all ask about you all the time!

Sandman- Living in the paradise of $10-$20 beautiful Paisa pussy and hating every minute of it.

Stay away gringos.......!

By Furysys on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 - 12:36 pm:  Edit

Sorry Sandman, here's one gringo who won't stay away. You sound like you live the hard life.

By Hemp on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 - 02:01 pm:  Edit

Sandman has always lived "HARD" all his life. Right Buddy? - Hemp

By Copperfieldkid on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 - 03:03 pm:  Edit

Hemp,
I think we both need to go down and give him a run for the money! I remember sitting having dinner one night with him and Sweet, he checked EVERY girl out that walked in! [this was in the States, one can only imagine when in the candy store]

By Hemp on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 - 03:52 pm:  Edit

CFK - I spent 4 or 5 days with Sandman in Medellin in August and I can attest to the fact that his cell phone is loaded with numbers! He even got one while we were at McDonalds one morning for coffee before we hit the Casas. - Hemp

Hey kickboxer how ya doing.

You do have a point on alot of things, I was pretty much ostracized on ISG by the management because I critisized Aussie Greg, so there is alot of favoritism going on there, as a matter of fact I refused to renew my membership. Places like MM have screwed up alot of stuff in Medellin, as a matter of fact i'm amazed Aussie Greg hasn't been wacked yet.

The dollar doesn't buy shit in the way of pesos anymore. I think it's down to 1700cop to the dollar, on my first trip to Medellin, it was 2490cop to the dollar. When I first down, there were only three hostels now there are at last count 15, at least thats the amount I have listed in the newest version of my guide, & there may be some I don't know about.

I agree with you on the prices of girls from the MM or Vip are way overpriced & a complete rip off. Yet, you can still find a diamond in the rough SG in centro for 12,000cop + room & in Mayorista for 20,000cop + room.

When ever I go which is about every 6 months I rent an apt., I have gotten to know the city pretty well and I now know the non-touristy places where you can get a great meal for 3000cop. You can not just hang out in Poblado you have to venture out into the city. I love going up and exploring the barrios with my novia. I find some fantastic stuff at rock bottom prices, don't limit yourself, find a trustworthy local girl or guide to take you up to the barrios on the hills, it's too cool. I walk around Calcedo barrio where my novia lives all the time alone, I have gotten to know the locals there and they are always calling me over for a brew.

If you limit yourself and don't take in the ambiance of every part of the city then you are wasting your time and money, go to Thailand.

Why pay when you move over to other parts of the city other than Poblado and meet real girls and pay NOTHING.

I have not had to pay for pussy in Medellin for well over a year. NEWS FLASH-You don't need to pay for pussy anywhere in Colombia.

Unlike some others, I've never had a problem with Aussie Greg, but I certainly don't need Medellin Mansion anymore. Its a fun place but you won't be able to get free pussy anywhere near there.

Most people know my situation, I spend half the year traveling and half the year working. Unfortunately I'm working now. But June I'm going to a new locale, not covered on this board.

I'll post my results!

By the way, if you want better results than the Mansion, then contact medellinmadman on CH. He's a friend of mine and has Medellin wired for FREE local talent.

Time to exchange some US $'s at 2350 COP. All this bitching and complaining by a few is tedious but funny.
