Getting visa in BA/Argentina for Brazil?

I'm a US cit and will be in Buenos Aires for a few weeks but may want to jet over to Rio for a weekend. My 5 year Brazil visa expired and as I don't have a BR trip scheduled within the next 90 days I can't get a visa through the normal channels. Do any ARG vets or expats have experience getting a visa at the BR consulate/embassy in BA? Can anyone suggest another solution?
