Sobe, with your your flair for the dramatic and t ability to stretch the truth you should be working for work for The National Enquirer. Care to point out where either one of these articles actually states that bombs were planted or that police "fear yet is worse to come"?

Let me try again. Sobe, where in either article does it actually say that bombs were planted and (to paraphrase) the worst is yet to come?

M.B.G. Not dramatizing, just posting the facts! How would you decipher whats written here? Take it as you want to.. Very "catty" for your whole 2 posts! lol

FEAR OF BACKLASH

With the hostages free, Guaviare residents are bracing for a FARC backlash, as the rebels try to recover their military pride. Police officials here say they are checking into reports that the guerrillas have executed 16 of their own people so far.

There were no reports of bombs planted. Nobody said the worst is yet to come. Those are the facts. It is likely that Colombian troops are on a higher state of alert for any possble retaliation. As you can see from the last line of the latest article you posted there is significant skepticism that the FARC has the ability to mount much of a retaliation effort. The prevailing attitude here in Colombia is that the end has never been closer and more imminent for the rebels.
It is also doubtful any CH menbers were planning trips to Guiviare.

Well my girl who lives in Cali but the majority of her family including her father still live and work in Valle tlls me that there is still "great" fear in that area of "backlash" the FARC is STILL 10k strong and yesterday her father was 5hrs late due to a robbery on the highway leaving Valle leaving 2 murdered and the army had shut down the highway. Which I think was random though. Life is still very cheap in Colombia unfortunately and to make light of your well being to to take Colombia as a whole non-challantly I dont think is good advice.

FARC is in disarray and riddled with informants and turn coats, the idealistic old guard is dying off and even those few true believers left are outnumbered and out gunned by the new guard who consider themselves more business men then revolutionaries, FARC is in a transition from a political organization to a criminal one. They are also loosing support from long time allies like Venezuela and Equator. Even the Economist had an article abut their souring relationship in May. I would not under estimate their will to commit some terrorist act to reestablish themselves but I would believe that the new leadership will take this opportunity to clean house rather then retaliate.

With any luck, there will be no new leadership. Within the last several months, three jefes have been taken down. One died, one was killed by his own for the reward, and one turned herself in to the Army. She may have been concerned that someone in her ranks wanted a reward.

The looming dissolution(I am being somewhat hopeful here) of the FARC will cause some short-term problems similar to the problems with the dissolution of the AUC. There will be a lot of guys out of work. And you really don't want those kinds of guys out of work.

I just got back from Colombia, and prior to the release of Ingrid et.al, went to Buenos Aires. The second time thru Medellin security (when I left to come home, after the release), there definitely was a much stronger police presence. So, they are obviously concerned. But, that is always a possibility no matter when you go to Colombia, or anyplace else
