This hotel is located at Av. Alejandro Tirado no. 636. I donŽt know much about the area, but the hotel itself is clean and quiet. It costs seventy Soles with continental breakfast included. (Continental breakfast merely means, coffee or tea and two rolls of bread with jam) The reception area is always staffed by two or more females and it is "guest friendly" meaning, yes, you can bring a hooker back to your room without the deep frowns which youŽd might get from some of the other hotel receptionists.

RT here. Thanks, 'bates. I'm always looking for the perfect place to stay.

What district is the hotel in? San Isidro, San Miguel, Lince, somewhere else? Phone number, too, please.

Also, are there internet connections in the rooms (wireless or wired), and last -- even though it is cold now -- are the rooms air conditioned?

Thanks in advance.

Gooch RT Gooch: Sorry for the late reply, but to answer your question, I am not sure of the district, but every time I tried to get a taxi back to my hotel I had to ask at least three or four different taxi drivers if they were certain they knew where it was. Some taxi drivers will agree to take you there, but I found out the hard way, they just want your fare and will question passers-by when they get near the hotel. Most taxi drivers actually don't know where it is, as it's not exactly in a well-known tourist section part of town.

If anything, I believe it is in the San Isidro part of town, though not in that specific area. I say this because when I was on the freeway, (that's that main busy highway which goes below ground level and cuts through the major sections of the city, I'm sure you know what I mean) I remember passing signs which said, "Lince" and "San Isidro."

The taxi drivers always exited the freeway at an area or street name known Av. Mexico and drove straight to where there was a big white concrete sign on an elevated lawn in the middle of an intersection which said,"Lima." I do know this hotel wasn't too far from the "Barrios," supposedly, an incredibly real dangerous part of town, where, I was warned poverty levels are of the utmost desperation, that robbery and murder were for most, a means of survival.

The cross street is: Carlos Arrieta, not a major cross street, but a small side street. The major cross street to this hotel on Av. Alejandro Tirado is Av. Paseo de la Republica.

The phone numbers are: 51-1-265 3560 and 51-1-265 1963.

E-mail: hotelferrua@hotmail.com

The web site is: www.hotelferrua.com.pe

I didn't notice if there are Internet connections in the rooms, but I did notice they did have two working computers downstairs inside the reception room. As for air conditioned, I didn't know it was going to be that cold there this time of year, so using an air conditioner was quite out of the question. A huge fan was mounted to the wall just below the television which tells me this hotel, although quite cheap and quiet, still is in its primitive stages, as they gave me a key to the room, as opposed to a plastic key card, which most hotels have converted to nowadays.

One other thing...(actually a couple of other things) the sign directly outside the hotel says, "Hotel Clorys," not Hotel Ferrua. I don't know whether the Hotel Ferrua is a hotel chain. But upon exiting the hotel everyday, I had to give up the key to the receptionist and was given the room key back upon my return.

Hope all this helps.

Thanks, 'Bates.

According to the website, they're in Santa Beatriz. You were very polite in saying that this is not a 'well-known tourist section" -- you probably won't get killed coming and going, but there are places in Miraflores that are as low as 100 Soles a night that are much safer and convienent to many of the places that we want to visit. The other plus of Miraflores and San Isidro is that (if you call out for a girl) it is much easier to get someone to come to the 'tourist/rich people' areas than to somewhere on the outskirts.

Their site also says that they have wi-fi in the rooms.

Hey -- the place looks clean and well-maintained, and you're happy there, so it's another hotel to add to the list of possibilities.

I am always intrigued by the hotels in the RyV vicinity -- they look well-kept, the neighborhood is nice, and they probably don't charge as much as some of the Miraflores places. I need to try one of them some time.

I have a reservation now at the Las Palmas for $35 and night, including tax and breakfast. This will be for October this year. By the picture of it, it looks OK. Ratings are mid-range. Chica friendly, and right near Kennedy Park.
