Nothing unusual - After Carnival the pickings usually get worse. Very unlikely for Brazil.... While the economy is growing strongly, most Brazilians really have not benefited from this economic growth. The minimum salary was recently raised (to around 400 something Real's a month)for which you cannot even afford to rent an apartment in most Favelas in Rio anymore. What limited middle class there is, and upper class are doing good...but they are in the minority. The upper class never had a problem getting a visa anyway so are traveling at will, but the same is not true for the lower class. The Visa requirements are only lifted when some type of formula is met that shows a limited number of visiters to the US continue to stay illegally. With the economic growth companies and rich individuals will just get richer, while the poor - well just stay poor and look for a way to enter in the USA to work!

Vila Mimosa

For those of you who might want to walk on the wild side in Rio, a mongers visit to Rio is not complete without a trip to Vila Mimosa. Most of the stories you may have heard are not true, but parts of them are. It IS dirty and LOUD and some of the girls really are butt ugly. But the upside is the variety and the 24 hour party of over 40 small bars on one street. I have found it to be very safe and the owners and patrons do their best keep it that way.

I will be in Rio until April 1. If anyone would like to go to this wild west town just like when the cowboys used to come in town on Saturday night to Miss Kittys saloon in Dodge on Saturday nights, I would be willling to guide you through and help you with the rules, dos and donts, and introduce you to some of the girls.

Going there alone can be frightening, like ===what have I got myself into==== type of reaction. I go there twice a week or so and would ge glad to show you the ropes.

The :SPORT: in VM is to find that needle in the haystack--and they are there! If you are a true and blue Terma man, I suggest you skip this trip. But if you are looking for a cultural experience, looking to save some bucks and like the excitement of a 24 hr party, then get in touch with me. I tend to disagree with you about the comments on VM. I find most of it to be true -- it is disgusting, unsanitary, poor and mostly for the average, blue-class brasilians.

Though it might be true there is a handful of doable girls for a paltry 25 reaias, the conditions are too nasty to enjoy one's self in the sexual sense.

Sure, you are there for a month's time. Then, that is fine to go an investigate the place for that "possible gem". Unfortunately, many guys here go to Rio for 1 or 2 weeks.
