Best to sign up with Don and Ken, they can show you around. While you won't absolutely need Portuguese in a termas, you'll attract sharks if you're solo, can't speak the language and know nothing about the scene.

If you have not figured out this tip yet, use it. That is, write down the addresses of the places you want to go including the place you will be staying for the return trip. Most taxi drivers do not speak much English and you do not want to get into a taxi expecting the driver will understand. Put it on paper and if you have the phone number of where you are going, put that on there too just in case.
