Where to stay?

I am going to Santiago at the endo of July for work but have planned a few days extra to bang it up so to speak. I would like to rent a apartment or similar during my free time. I prefer to not be in a hotel as I will be in one the entire week prior. I want to be walking distance to clubs, bars, restaraunts, and the obvious (of course).

Can anybody recommend neighborhoods or even better, places to stay for about 5 nights.
