Have any of you Colombia vets experienced Cartagena during the week of the Concurso Nacional de Belleza de Colombia (Miss Colombia Week)? I have read that this pageant is a big deal in Colombia and that high season rental rates are in effect. Juan Venura cut me a nice deal on a a decent 1BR in Torre Centauro APTS. for $65 per night(really close to the Hilton where the contestants stay). I have two questions and I am sorry about "burying the lead". 1.Is this a great time to monger (more chicas) or do the puta prices go sky high and 2. Does the contest have a spill over effect in Medellin in the sense that girls you'd usually find there will be in Cartagena? Thanks, I'd appreciate any views or experiences on this subject.

You got a good deal from Juan for $65/nite. I was there 1x during the pageant but it was mainly a pain b/c of the crowds and traffic near the Hilton. Very tight security so couldn't get into see anything and I only had shorts. Lots of Italians and Israelis in town. Saw a few "Contestants" at the nicer disco and Old Town (Cafe Del Mar and Plaza Santa Domingo) sigthseeing.
Beach is always crowded on weekends anyways and mostly locals. Didn't impact the chica availability or pricing too much of FL as most girls were not there for the Pagent. But at LDV, the addnl tourists meant more mercenary gals asking/getting higher than normal rates.

If you want to get up close and personal, stay at the pageant hotel, the CTG Hilton. But it will cost you some "coin"!

Guys, thanks for the responses. I appreciate both the camaraderie and great information provided by this Board. Merlin, your reports got me interested in Colombia and you recommended Juan Ventura, who has been just first rate. On my maiden journey to Cartagena in March, as soon as I stepped out in front of my apartment, I was beset upon by some of your old favs - Tatiana, Sandra and Monica. They were just as you described them!

Hey, Pan1975, great to hear you got some helpful info. CTG is one awesome city, as you know, and I can honestly say that I've never had a so-so trip there in all these years, even w/the weather, touts, pageants, etc.
Do check out the Santo Domingo Square and Cafe Del Mar area as it was more festive than usual with pageant in town. I'd avoid LDV, espec. during the pageant. Have fun. M
