Guadalajara is a sprawling expanse of a city, but a centrally located hotel is rarely more than a 2-4 dollar cabride away with peso rates not having caught up to the peso implosion.
Official taxi rates from the GDL airport to hotels downtown are more than 300 pesos. Taxis will try to get you to pay 220-250 pesos for the return to the airport.
Uber will do trips to/from the airport from 110 pesos to 160 pesos for a good 25-40 minute ride.
Cons for Taxis -- when stuck in traffic, empty cabs are not easy to find.
Cons for Uber -- during peak times, the app will claim they are "arriving soon" when they really aren't. Costs the normal ride fee to cancel...
Uber generally rocks and is right now pretty insane value for rides on demand. Metered taxis are what most would consider cheap anywhere else in the world based on the dollar amount charged.
