May 2004 Report on Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico

By Palmiro on Sunday, February 02, 2003 - 12:38 pm:  Edit

Tepic is the capital of Nayarit, the state due north of Puerto Vallarta. Its main point of interest is its Huichol indian handicrafts market in the main plaza. But just in case you're on the lookout for alternative purchases, here's the scoop: there's no "zona" but there are a number of "casas de cita" (bordellos) on the outskirts of town. I went to the best in town, called "Cien" after its address (Libramiento 100), where you will find an attractive private home (including swimming pool and outdoor BBQ) also equiped, from 4pm onwards, with 7-8 chicas. They don't hustle you for drinks, allow you to size up the range of options (quality=6-8), and you can arrange FS (30 min.) for 400-600 pesos including the room. Girls are quite young, friendly, but generally non-English speaking. You're free to hang around as long as you like, and drinks are very reasonable (NB: you're likely to be the only gringo in the place). A 15-minute taxi ride from the center will run you 20-25 pesos (taxis are dirt cheap in Tepic). Try the Bandaleras (spelling?) steak house for a great charcoal-grilled arrachera (skirt steak), also dirt cheap.

Hotel recommendations?

By Palmiro on Tuesday, February 04, 2003 - 10:07 am:  Edit

Hotel tips: Hotel Las Palomas, really a motel, no problem to bring girl back (if you get lucky)--nice breakfast, probably about $60 now, on Insurgentes. Also on Insurgentes is the most upscale place, formerly called the Fiesta Tepic, but now has a Huichol name I've forgotten, runs about $80, lavish exterior and lobby--but a problem to bring back a girl.

I have been in this town for 2 days. In Mazatlan the locals and some gringos have told me that the people here are not the nicest. I will say this, that this town is worth a stop. There are about 5 musuems (if you are into that kind of thing). Unfortunantley for me it is a holiday and some of them are closed. So far I have noticed that the restuarants and bars charge what they want. I wish I spoke better Spanish, I would complain a bit more. People are decent. I have no trouble getting a smile here and there from the gals in the plaza. I have not been to, nor do I plan to go to the zona that is here. THere is in fact one as I have been told by some locals in the canitinas. I suppose (as according to Milky) that one not need to go to brothels in the interior. One only need to talk to some chicas and they should be more than willing to be ones novia. I will also say that the murals in the Palacio de Gobierno are fantastic. THey are worth a long look. I am staying at the Hotel Ciberian. NIce and clean about $15 a night. If you are in the area, I recommend a stop in Tepic. The surrounding country is not bad to look at either and provides for an enjoyable bus ride.

Was in "Cien" again in Oct. of 2004, and they were in the process of remodeling the place. It's now a stripjoint with rooms. About 7 chicas there, all pretty young--I paid 700 for a toss in the sack with a cutie, but no kissing and no oral grat. And as Brewterbro points out, there's now a cover charge (25 pesos, as I recall) to get in. I liked it better when it was just a low-key casa de cita.

The town is a shithole, but I stopped there on the way to the more remote part of Nayarit (not telling where!). I would strongly advise against walking the streets here at night, unless you are comfortable with an inner city urban lifestyle. If you wouldn't walk alone at 2AM down the street in East LA or South Central, don't do it here.

There was a huge avenue there, with northbound and southbound sides separated by a river, with occasional bridges across. I forgot its name. Anyway, on both sides of that street there are strip clubs and cantinas. I'd avoid the strip clubs. First, there is no action, second, there are criminals there waiting to prey on an occasional lost gringo. I barely shook one off my back. It required me to 1) walk to a nearby cantina to confirm that he was shadowing me, 2) paying a ficha girl at the cantina to dance with me and sit at my table so that he would think we hooked up for the night, and 3) quickly running off the minute he went to the bathroom to take a leak (with my bladder bursting to do the same haha). If you don't have eyes in the back of your head, you will get hurt.

However, I did end up hooking up with a hot Huichole indian girl. She came out of the cantina, and she was alone. I told her she was beautiful, and offered her to go back in and have a drink on me. 30 minutes later she was crying on my shoulder telling me her life story. 2 hours later we were at her place, in bed (she told me she didnt want sex, and we'd just sleep. I needed a place to stay since I didnt have a hotel, so it was good enough for me.). 4 hours later she wakes me up with a blow job... and we fuck for the next hour or so (no, i didn't pay, yes, she totally wanted it). 6 hours later im out the door catching the bus :-)

So in Tepic... adventure - yes. mongering - no. danger - plenty.

Amigo, you and i must be on the same travel schedule. I was in Cebu a year ago, had a real good time, but again, would probably concur with your advice as to not pick up streetwalkers on Colon st, the oldest street in the Philippines.

Yhere are plenty of other places to pick up girls in Cebu. Colon st. is a bit freaky deeky, especially at nite.

I almost went to tepic last month, but time constraints did not permit it. I had originally planned to bus up to Mazatlan, but opted for Guadalajara instead. I had heard that Tepic, in general is not too foreigner friendly. who knows, it may be a catch as catch can situation. thanks for the info. by the way, what is the name of that main street divided by the river?
