I was disappointed in the Tres Caminos motel in Nuevo Laredo.
First, the price was too high for what you get: I paid $63 per night (a "special price") instead of the ~$45 I was expecting.
Second, the location was not convenient at all. Sure it's a little closer to Boystown, but taxis still want $10 to get there (although they would usually take $8). Also there is nowhere to reliably catch a taxi nearby, so you have to have the front desk call one for you. And there is very little you can walk to from the motel. No liquor stores for example, or shopping, and precious few food choices. In short, if you stay at Tres Caminos you will spend a LOT on taxis.
I also have the following nitpicky complaints.
For some reason they were VERY stingy with towels. I started off with 2 smallish bath towels. No handtowels or washclothes, just 2 bath towels. After housekeeping visited, I had NONE. Even after I asked for towels, I was eventually brought ONE. Is there a towel shortage in Nuevo Laredo?
Both faucets in the shower were hot, although one was slightly more tolerable than the other. How does that even work?
There was no deadbolt or chain on my door, and the maid came in once even though I had the "Do Not Disturb" sign hanging on the door knob.
On the plus side, you can make reservations over the internet, the motel restaurant is good, with exceptional service, and it has a pool. The TV had cable, so I could watch that great Mexican video channel HTV/PACHANG. Also, they didn't care that I brought a chica to my room.
It wasn't a terrible place to stay, but I know there's better options for ~$60 a night. I won't be staying there again.

See Redongdo - I told you it was a good place.
Btw CapnDave,
I am staying there for the first time this weekend. One thing that I liked about what I was told was that you could walk to downtown from the hotel. A mile or two walk doesn't bother me. What's your take ?
Also, CapnDave. Did you bring any BT chicas back here ? And if so were they ok with the place.
Thanks,
Gitano

Gitano,
If "a mile or two walk" doesn't bother you, then no problem. I never did find a map of Nuevo Laredo, but I suppose it's about 1/2 mile to really get "downtown". I was hoping for something like La Villa Zaragoza in Tijuana, just 2 blocks off Revolucion.
I had a Papagayos girl meet me at the motel, when BT was closed due to elections. She had been there before, but didn't say if she liked it or not. I can't imagine any BT girl is going to have a problem with Tres Caminos, it's definately not a dump.

The website for Tres Caminos has a small map
http://www.trescaminos.com.mx/english/location.htm
I know there are others online as well...but does this one give enough detail to illustrate what you're saying?

Without having been to Tres Caminos before, based on a previous set of directions, I do believe that the map is not proportional. I am thinking that the distance to Chihuahua from Rio Bravo is considerably more than the map implies. Anybody know how far that is ? I would guess 1.5 miles.

The map on the Tres Caminos site is not even close to proportional, at least in that direction. I walked several blocks North on Av. Guerrero and the only place of interest I came across was a quickie mart at a gas station.
In the other direction (South), the map does show accurately that Tres Caminos is only a few blocks North of the Juarez statue.

I stayed at Tres Caminos last weekend. Two nights came to a little under $140. Not a good deal, but hotels run a little high in NL. Room was clean and probably at a BW level with a king size bed and cable TV (at least 50 channels). Nice pool area. The place shows that they have been working on it. Lots of little thinks not quite right, like the door chain was off kilter etc.
Easily walking distance to downtown IMNSHO. It took a little under an hour to walk to the bridge and I was in no hurry. That makes it about 2 miles. Lots of restaurants walking north and south on Guerrero. I like it because it is more upscale and quieter than the el centro hotels, but still close enough to walk around. I am a walkin kind of guy, others are not. The area all the way to the border is very safe.

I've stayed here on many occaisons in the last five years. Rates are much higher now, but if you want a safe parking lot and a great breakfast (not included), then it might be worth the extra. Still CS dictates not to take your vehicle across at all. Sometimes risk is fun... other times its downright foolish. I do luv their ranchos nuevos with mi amiga du jour - that'll keep me happy and humming for awhile!
