No it ain't a mistake. The Hilton Gardens opened a few months ago. It was the 3rd new hotel to start construction, but the first to finish (The Holiday in started 3 or 4 years ago, the new Santa Mario maybe 2 years agao, both have yet to be finished and plenty of work to do).

I called the toll free US reservation # (don't know it right now, will post later). Confirmed a shocking $60 rate. Shocking because I'd been told they charge walk ups $138 US after the sorry peso conversion rate of 8.6 peso to one US $. That's about 1190 pesos. Word of advice here, always pay by credit card, you will get the current exchange rate from your bank, and check the conversions to make sure, the Mexican banks like to play games and hide $50 here or there. The Mexican banks make millions each year, and almost never get caught doing this. The current exchange rate is 9.25 pesos to $ US.

Got off track there.

The hotel is brand new, from scratch. Unfortunately the only entrance is thru the lobby and past the front desk. Does not make for an easy allnighter without the walk of shame and watchful eyes of hotel employees.

Hotel is first class. Must have been designed by Americans. All the American comforts.
Very large king bed in my room, smoking room did not smell like a smoker yet. Bathroom had nice, very nice towels. Very plush. Even had a bathtub and shower. Marble on the walls, not the fake plastic stuff. Good cable with many channels and pay per view movies, etc.

Bathroom even had Nutrigena products for the soap, etc. Even mouthwash. Average size room, nice desk and phone system. Many light available, even had to put the hotel key card in the wall thingy to make the light turn on. Very nice individual AC/Heat.

Had coffee maker and coffee. Even had an ironing board and iron.

Nice restaurant, I tried it for breakfast, a little pricy at 90 pesos for all you can eat breakfast buffet.

The people running thru the place were what appeared to be very wealthy Mexicans. Many many young girls hanging out in the lobby early Sunday morning, I think they were gathering for a shopping trip to Laredo (US) or San Antonio. (or maybe coming back). Very pretty and young, just watching them made me feel like the dirty old man I am.

The hotel is kinda tricky to find. It's on Reforma about 5 miles south of Bridge #1. You don't see it until you are past it and can not turn into the parking lot.

Here's the address and phone #

Hilton Garden Inn Nuevo Laredo
Ave. Reforma 5302, Col. Patios de la Exaduana
Frente al Monumento de los Fundadores
C.P. 88000 Nuevo Laredo Tamaulipas
(87) 19 2171

or in the US for reservations (and most likely the best rate depending on hotel occupany %)
1-800-HILTONS

Always push for a corporate rate or better would be the Hilton HHonors program.

Some more information on this hotel. If you go over bridge one you can take a left as if you were going to boystown. Instead of turning to go to boystown just continue straight until you see the hotel on your right hand side.
I also wanted to tell everyone how to get to boystown from the hotel. Leaving the hotel you make a right and make another right at the first stop light. Go about 2 miles until you come to the next stop light. At that light you will see a sign that says "Plaza de Toros". Turn right towards the Plaza de Toros. Go over the railroad tracks and past the bullring and continue thru the next intersection. Boystown is on the left just after this intersection.
I made reservations at Hilton.com and was given a rate of $69 U.S. The rate at the hotel was 1000 pesos at the hotel.
