This place is only about 3-4 blocks from the great strip clubs Matehuala and Infinito and Imperio, and only 2 blocks from the main bus station. 300 pesos gets you a 2-person room (w/ queen size bed), window unit A/C that works decently, and a TV with 4 local channels, no cable. The room was decently sized and had a dining room table and two chairs that was a nice touch. The bathroom was tiny, but had hot water at all times. This place is not luxurious in any way, but allowed a girl in, was cheap, and let me keep my key. Check out time being 1 PM was a nice touch too that other similar M.O. hotels (all night rooms in the short time Zona) don't allow.
An excerpt from longass trip report posted 6/1/2003:
I had been curious many times about a hotel that was pretty much in the middle of Monterrey’s ‘Zona’ across from a restaurant that I go to a lot that looked pretty nice from the outside. It’s called the Hotel Nuevo Leon, but the décor and the sign outside are very similar to the Days’ Inn in Monterrey. Knowing the location, I figured that despite the decent looks of the place, they would probably allow chicas in with no questions asked. So I walked the few blocks over to Amado Nervo street and asked, and it turned out that the rate was 300 pesos for 2 people in a room w/ A/C and TV. SOLD!
Uh, except that I was 50 pesos short with the cash onhand! Where does the damned money go??? I begged off, saying I had to go to the bank, and after I collected my overnight bag from the grocery store package check, went to the ATM and to El Pollo Loco for a middle of the night snack, I was offered two keys and my choice of either of two adjacent rooms, depending on which had the better A/C. As the first smelled a little too much of BUG SPRAY, I chose the second. As monger-friendly all night rooms go in Monterrey, the fact that Hotel Nuevo Leon gave a key and had a 1PM check-out time made it a much more attractive option than the Hotel Casino a couple blocks away.
My room at Hotel Nuevo Leon was simply OK, nothing special or frilly. Of primary importance was that the A/C was decent. The size of the room and the furnishings reminded me a little of the gringo rooms at the Hotel Leyva in TJ – big room (dining table, two chairs), TV didn’t have cable, bathroom was clean but TINY. It’s not that amusing taking a morning after dump with right thigh shoe-horned against the bathroom wall! I guess I should feel glad that the toilet had a seat!
From walking around on all the errands prior to checking in, I was pretty sweaty when I finally got settled in my room. I ate my little snack in between showering and changing into an extra smoke free shirt. By 11:15 I was refreshed and ready to go explore the weekend evening shift, something I don’t have a ton of experience with as I don’t like weekend primetimes.
