In response to question from Perorojo under Ojinaga/Presidio discussion, here's some info on Chihuahua. I wrote this 3-1/2 years ago, and posted on another discussion board, but it wasn't archived. So, with Mexican inflation, prices are probably about 20% higher in peso terms. Not a lot of selection, this isn't a good whoremonger destination if that's your only consideration. But it's a worthwhile place to go for other considerations, noted below. I would be very interested if anybody has checked out massage parlor/Estetica situation in Chihuahua -- I didn't.

Here's the old report:

Thought I'd post something regarding this city of 700,000, located about 3 hours south of Juarez. This is a popular tourist destination because it's at one end of the Chihuahua al Pacifico Railroad. The railroad goes through Copper Canyon and mountain country on the way to Los Mochis and the Pacific Coast. Definitely worth a trip -- beats the hell out of the Grand Canyon in my opinion. See the guidebooks for information on towns of Creel, Divisadero, and the Tarahumaran
Indians. Chihuahua, Chih. is worth a day or two by itself, especially if you like history. The museums devoted to Pancho Villa and Hidalgo
are worth a look, along with the cathedral and the government buildings. There's a giant mural inside the Palacio del Gobierno that
goes through the history of Mexico from the Indians to present that's fantastic.

And the women! The women beat anything you'll see walking down the street in border or beach towns. A number are light skinned latinas with green eyes. Some have an exceptional sense of fashion. In my limited experience, only the shopping district in Guadalajara compares.

A friend and I have been going to Chihuahua for years, and unfortunately my Spanish only recently became passable. But we still had a good time in the bars and discos.

Last trip I made a point to check out the putas. The primary red light zone is located across the street from the NEW bus station, a long way from the center of town. There are three bars there: the Riviera, Lawrence, and a pink building halfway between the other two that doesn't have a name (or I don't know it anyway). There's stage
dancing in all three bars, but none of the women were topless.

Both Riviera and Lawrence are classy joints. Drinks aren't expensive -- 11 pesos for a beer, and 16 pesos ($2) for a drink for a lady. The
majority of the women are good looking, 6 or better. A few 9's. The problem when I went on a Saturday night was that there were a lot more men than women. Riviera, which is the more popular of the two, probably had about 100 men and 30 women. The majority of the men were there to drink and watch the dancers. Still, you have to strike up a
conversation with a lady, not vice versa. By the way, I was the only gringo in any of the three bars, although one of the ladies tells me
she has Anglo customers -- tourists and people who manage the maquiladoras.

At the Riviera I was quoted 500 pesos ($60) by a very good looking 23 year old blond, plus another 100 pesos ($12) for the room. You walk about 50 yards to a love hotel, which had a line waiting for a room! My "date" said she'd spend about 1-2 hours with me and pretend she's my girlfriend, but it was more like 45 minutes and she pretended like she's my inflatable doll. She had reasonably nice personality, but her attitude was too professional.

I actually had more fun at the "pink" bar (don't know the name) which is a step down from Riviera and Lawrence. Saw only one really good
looking woman there, although the ratio of men to women was better, about 60-40. Some of the women here were fun to talk too. I was quoted 300 pesos by a "4", and 500 pesos by a somewhat chubby "5".
The "5", however, had a great personality, big breasts, and was claiming her oral technique is primo . Never got a chance to find out.

I'd like to see this place sometime besides a Saturday night. I think there would be a lot fewer men -- with drinks costing 11 pesos, a lot
of people probably just come here to drink. But, if this is like other Mexican cathouses, some of the better looking women only work
on the weekends.

There are some street walkers and bars on Avenida Juarez downtown, south of Calle 10a. Quality is poor, however. I've been told there is a first class place near downtown -- go south on Avenida Juarez until you hit the railroad tracks, then turn and go left, six blocks, and you'll see a big club that's among the best in Chihuahua. This is from an old timer that hasn't been there in several years, so I'm not sure it still exists.

Cab fare from El Centro to the Red Light District was 40 pesos, and it cost me 60 to return. I recommend the Hotel San Francisco, especially if you have an Entertainment discount card. It only cost me $35, and would cost about $90 in the U.S. The Camino Real and Fiesta Inn are new. There's a new hotel by the bus station, across from the red light district, but I didn't catch the name.

As far as prostitutes go, Juarez, Nuevo Laredo and Ciudad Acuna all beat Chihuahua, Chih. But the quality of the nonprofessionals in Chuihuahua is superior, and it's also better if you want to have something to do besides fuck.

Getting there - you can drive or take a bus from Juarez or Ojinaga, or fly from Juarez or El Paso. Also, there's a train from Juarez.
