Been lurking and reading here for some time but haven't gone down to Nogi from Phoenix yet. I'll be in Tucson Friday and Saturday and if Poker goes well Friday night I'm looking to head to Nogi. Is there anyone I can meet down there. Also, will there be cabs at the border around 9-10PM and/or is the walk safe to do alone? Finally, any hotels close to the bars that are suggested if I decide to stay the nite?

You need not worry about the "walk". The bars in Nogales are a stones' throw across the border, and the streets are reasonably safe. Don't know where the bars are? No problem. The moment you walk through the border you'll have half a dozen new "friends" wanting to take you to a bar. The bars pay them a buck or two for bringing people in, so they're very eager to escort you there.

As for hotels, I've always preferred Hotel Granada. It's about 4 blocks straight down the main road from the border, but it's clean and monger-friendly. The downside is Granada doesn't have English-speaking desk clerks. If you speak no Spanish, getting a room might be a bit awkward. If you don't plan to take a girl to your room, Hotel Frey Marcos is also nice, and much closer to the border. It's right down the street from Rio's, and around the corner from Obsession.
