Bar La Taberna (The Tavern)is located at 123 Manuel Gonzalez, corner of Luis Encinas. Tel. (662) 213-38- 50.

This is a rowdy hangout where all the locals seem to congregate. There are two sections of the bar, one where the locals sit and play cards, smoke cigars, or just listen to the music on the jukebox. The other section looks like a huge indoor warehouse where they have a live band on a stage in the corner and a dance floor in the middle surrounded by lots of tables and chairs.

They play mostly ranchero music. The bar is open from 11:00 am, 'til 2:00 am. It's crowded all the time, even during the day. Most of the local patrons seem to hang out there all day.

Most women in there are fat, disgusting and ugly. Some are dirty, worn-out looking, haggard old alcoholics who sometimes go from table to table scrounging cicarettes and beer.

I only saw two that I could have been attracted to. Women in this bar, especially in this part of town, are only too willing to propostion themselves for a few bucks.

I went there about six times, mainly because it was so close (walking distance) from my hotel. Towards the later part of the evening, I was constantly approached by intoxicated, dirty, heavy-set chicas who asked me if they could go home with me.

The music was loud, most tables had spilled beer on them, also puddles of spilled beer all over most of the floor. Although somewhat unsafe, they did have a uniformed security guard on duty who was gently escorting highly intoxicated patrons from the establishment.

Wouldn't really recommend it, but if you're desperate and lonely, and hanging out in this part of town, Bar La Taberna is a place where you'll definitely meet some chica for sex, as long as you aren't too picky!

Master Bates.

Master Bates, I have visited Hermosillo dozens of times in the past 2 years. So far, I have never worked up the courage to enter a place like the one you describe above. Although I consider myself very picky, that is not one of the reasons I haven't gone there. Primarly I stay to the established TD clubs, restaurants and massage parlors because I am not fluent in Spanish and I suspect places like La Taberna may be what some mongers on this site call a "kill whitey" kind of place.

This leads me to a couple more questions I have for you. First, how fluent is your Spanish? Second, if you ever want a trip-buddy, would you please send me a message to my inbox?

A few things come to mind here, Brewmeisterbro. Firstly, don't think that because you are a white guy from the US, and presumably rich, that you would get the "cold shoulder" treatment from Mexican nationals. Quite the opposite.

Going into a place like this is only sending the message you want to embrace yourself in their culture and music. The "kill whitey" belief amongst the traveling caucasion monger further down into a third-world country like Mexico, is virtually non-existent.

True, there does exist the brewing tensions of the political extremists further down into other states such as Oaxaca. They have communist affiliations and are encouraged to rise up against their own government and corporate Mexico. My history isn't that great, but I believe they are connected with the Sardinistas of the mountain regions.

But when I visited bars/cantinas like Bar La Taberna in Hermosillo, I got a warm reception. I didn't receive any type of hostile stares whatsoever. More like stares of, "what's a white guy doing here?" In fact, upon my return I've told many friends I felt like a rock star walking into a place like this with all eyes upon me, probably wondering what's a gringo doing here in a place like this.

The manager/bartender of the establishment got used to me going in there and even gave me a calendar which advertises the bar.

My Spanish is ok, not great, but ok. I've been practising it for years and when I was in Hermosillo last, I carried a dictionary with me everywhere I went.

Sure, a trip buddy sounds fine. I'll in-box you with further when I'm seriously thinking of returning back there, which should be within the next three months or so.

Just returned from Hermosillo and paid a few visits to this bar. Still rowdy, still a good selection of real skanky fat unnattractive chicas, still a locals hangout.

Met some real obese chica in here whom I propostioned for $40.00. Well worth it, as she put her heart and soul into this session. Very pretty face and a great smile, but "tons" of fun.
