It has been about 20 years since my last visit to mazatlan but when I used to go there I freguented a place called zona rosa. It was in the middle of the swamp between the airport and Mazatlan city. There was one road that came in and that was all.
The federalies sat in front of all the brothels loaded for bear. There were about 12 brothels all had shows and the girls lined the walls or paraded in front of your table. I loved the place there was a guy who went around with a magneto hanging from his neck with 2 medal handles, and for 100 pesos I could hold on to these handles well he turned up the voltage with a dial. The electricity would pump through my arms and the bar would chant mas,mas every night I would go there rent women and dial in on this device.
My last night on one holiday I decide to see how much voltage I could take so the guy just kept on dialing it up till I could feel my tongue was about to go in seizures I said no mas, the guy looked at me and winked and said mas? and dialed up some more I couldnot respond because my tongue went into seizure, I looked at him and he knew he had me then he winked again and turned the dial off.
This was a roughed place the girls fought each other with straight razors. The federalies would pull people out in puiblic and shake them down.etc.
I would like to know if this place is still there and if anyone else has tried this electric experience.

It is still there. Not so many bars, though.

I was recently on a street in Mazatlan that resembles the one you mention. Is it the one where El Caballito is the first bar on the right?
It would help if you could give me the name of the place. If we are thinking about the same road, it is in the area they are the Zona Tolerencia NOT Zona Rosa. It is now a paved road. I was told that it used to be a dirt road.

If you continue East from El Caballitos on the now paved road and go approximatley 1/2 mile you will find what the locals call Zona Siete. There are several bars there. Dos Gordos is now shut down and the Dragon Rojo across the street is pretty slim pickens but every now and then you can get lucky. The others bars Johnny's and EL Famoso are mainly TV's. It is not the area to go if you are faint at heart or do not speak any Spanish.

Yep, that's the area I was at two weeks ago. I went into the bar that used to be called Dos Gordos. I met and talked with Gordo, the proprietor, at great length. He was a very interesting fellow. He now calls his place "Bar 3 Gordos" and has plans to bring it back to its old glory. The man is now in poor health, so he may not be able to do it. He did, however, relate many stories regarding it's "days of glory", as he described them. I intend to compose a special post just about Dos Gordos in the near future. I will include a recent photo taken of the building. I am curious to find out what any mongers that were there 10 years ago remember about Dos Gordos.
He warned me that all of the other bars in the vecinity were either TV bars (as you discribed) or too risky for me to venture into. Therefore, following his advice, I did not attempt to enter Dragon Rojo, Johnny's or El Famoso.
Goingsouth, sounds like you really know Mazatlan!
I would love to have someone with your knowledge along with me on a future trip. There is still much fun to be had there. Please email me if you are the least bit interested in a trip buddy.

Lithai, I would still like to know if that bar that you described, still exists. You never gave a name and neither did the other mongers that posted replies.

I believe the bar that Lithai is referring to is the Dragon Rojo. In the past it was more festive than it is now. It had floor shows with dancers, a live band and usually a comedian/MC. You would see all walks of life there and it was relitively safe. Now it usually only has the lower end talent and some what dangerous to go to. I go every now and then when I am feeling courages but do not make it on a regular basis. There are better options that are less rowdy. Brewmeisterbro by the way I enjoy your reports on Hermosillo. I enjoy discovering the sights there when I have to go to the Consulate for business.

Lithai,I think I'll pass on the magneto experience. I think it would be much safer to fuck all the whores up the ass without a condom!

Sorry guys I havenot been following this thread for a while. Thanks to all you guys for trying to help find out if it is still there or not. I think the dragon rojo might be the place. Does it have a pool on the left when you enter , It wasnot a place for the faint of heart. I am not interested in going back I go to Thailand now and have for years.I also used to go to a daytime brothel near the central market it was an old fort you entered and the girls all sat outside their own rooms ,it was 2 stories high and I would go there after breakfast walk around look at the girls, usually 20 or more girls,it was just a brothel no pretense. It sounds like there has been lots of changes since I went there sounds like the mongering is easier but way more expensive.

Lithai, That is the place for sure. I forgot to mention the pool in my prior post. It is on the left side as you walk in the front door and it is entered through the door next to the bar. I have never seen any water in it.

I am going back to Mazatlan next week. I will ask Gordo about Dragon Rojo. It is directly accross the street from Bar 3 Gordos. All he told me about it was that the owner was a post-op Transsexual. That tells me that it is probably not the type of place I am interested in. When I was on that street I saw a very obvious TV (or was it a TS?) trolling the street.
I was there in the late afternoon.

I hope "Brewmeisterbor" was a type-o. If I am that boring maybe I do need to try the magneto machine!
