Since Nogales is lame for the time being, anybody care to join me in Agua Prieta? I have checked it out and it is not a bad little scene.

I'm in Tucson, and I would agree about Nogales. I've never been to AP, but I'm up for adventure. I dont speak any Spanish tho...

Can anyone give a recent update on the situation in Agua Preita? Which clubs are best, prices, and general advice. Thanks.

Yyyyman7,
I would check out the recent report by MajorDude. It is located under trip reports and the name of the report is 2004/07 Majordude - Agua Prieta "Vale la Pena" y Las Palomas

I am in Phoenix. Anybody else up here? Preferably with a car that gets good gas mileage as mine doesn't. I will split the gas with you or act as a tour guide.

If you can get down to Tucson, we can take my car the rest of the way. I can seat 5 including myself, seems like we are getting quite the group going here...

You know they have those van services that run between Agua Prieta and Phoenix (with a stop in Tucson). Although you might lose some flexibility, they are relatively cheap. I grabbed one to Phoenix once as it travels down the highway close to where I live. I had to make arrangements in advance to pick me up at a certain location and provide verification that I'm a US citizen or resident (they accepted my driver's license, LOL) but it was, at that time only a little more expensive than if I would have driven my big ol gas guzzlin silverado. I was told that you can get a discount if you buy so many seats ahead of time. Something to look into.
Agua Prieta is not Nogales. My experience in AP have been mixed. The first two time I went there mongering were the tops. (see my review) but my last few experiences were so-so. An acqaintance of mine was almost mugged after he was propositioned by a street girl in the zona right near the bars. He narrowly escaped a mugging and was told afterwards that a common tactic was to lure a unsuspecting person away from the bars and then accost by accusing you of propositioning his "girlfriend" the appeasement, to avoid any rough stuff, was to give them a not-so-small bribe. Just hearsay, but if you know the area, I can see it happening.
Also, if you walk, go when it's light, or travel with someone. The Zona in AP is not in a good area, worse area than even the Congo. Take a cab, they are available at the border it seems, and nowhere else. Getthe cab drivers card and cell offer him a bribe and call him if you need to return to the border. Taxis are hard to get at nite, and almost impossible on weekends.

I had exactly that scenario happen once. A very hot chica came from the streets opposite the Flamingo and wanted to return to her place near there. I thought at the time just bad luck, as she claimed one of the two guys we came across in the residential area to be her boyfriend. I offered to buy them all a drink after realizing something to be odd, but they made no agressive moves. I assumed later being sober may have helped a bunch. They declined to walk back to the bars.
I have been in the area alone several times without any other incidence. Each time I think it would be better to go with a partner, but I can not imagine a larger group finding enough memories to go around!
Never had a problem walking to Conga, even after closing. Has there been trouble?
