Some people recently were asking about the Plaza Nogales. I stayed there about 4-5 times in late mid to late 2001.

The Plaza Nogales is pretty nice. They have rooms, suites, and king size suites. I am not sure about Jacuzzis, but one of the suites I rented last year had a pretty big bathtub with jets in it. In standard Mexican fashion though they did not work. :)

The only problem with the Plaza Nogales is the $8-$10 dollar and 10-15 minute cab ride to get there. It is pretty far down but you do get to see a good portion of Nogales on your way there. Prices at the Plaza range from $40 to $100 depending on the room you get.

Another real bummer about the Plaza Nogales is the insanely early checkout time. As I recall, it was 11am or noon. Often times I would wait for my girl to get off at 3 or 4, we'd get something to eat, head back to the Plaza Nogales, settle in, fuck a few times and get to sleep around 7 or 8. So I usually had to get the room for two nights. The morning room service was pretty good though with a decent menu.

Enter in the lobby and then take the glass elevator up one level. The actual rooms are a short distance away. You walk past a pool and up a small hill with steps to get to the rooms. I once got the king size suite because that was all they had. Nice big king size bed and its own bedroom, living room, etc. The room was pretty big.

Taking an obvious working girl there never was a problem for me. I paid with a credit card on all occasions without incident.

Doesn't a noon checkout suck when you've been up 'till 7AM getting busy? My favorita and I were at Hotel Granada about a month ago. I was trying to get out of there on time, but she took here own sweet time. Probably left about 1PM or so - no complaints or requests for extra cash or a second night's fee.

I think it's a mindset - Americans tend to follow laws and rules, Mexicans just ignore them.

Phoenixguy;

I would also suspect that it has something to do with the number of expected reservations the next day. If they are running a 40% average occupancy rate, then they can affort to permit the late checkouts, if they are going to be full or nearly full, they need to get your ass out of the room so they can get it ready.

So.......
How close is this hotel to the bus station?

By Xenono on Saturday, August 03, 2002 - 12:43 pm:  Edit

Diabetic,

Are you talking about that big Mexicoach like bus station that is next to a Burger King and supermarket?

If you are. It is not too far from that bus station. But I cannot say how far.

By Phoenixguy on Saturday, August 03, 2002 - 02:03 pm:  Edit

Dunno D. Never seen a bus station or the Burger King in Nogi, MX. I'd say Hotel Granada is about a 10 minute walk from the border - straight up the main road going in.

By Xenono on Saturday, August 03, 2002 - 02:15 pm:  Edit

I thought Diabetic was asking about Plaza Nogales in reference to the bus station. Indeed. The Hotel Granada is way before you get to either the bus station or the Plaza Nogales.

From the border, I believe the order is Hotel Granada, Bus Station, Plaza Nogales.

Xen et al - is the "pool" you're referring to a swimming pool? I have a hard-on to go "swimming" with my favoritas. That would be good, clean fun!

By Xenono on Saturday, August 03, 2002 - 03:47 pm:  Edit

Yes MrBill. They have a swimming pool at Plaza Nogales. In is located between the lobby/reception building and the two buildings that hold the rooms. You can't miss it.

I think this is the bus station on the map at http://www.usembassy-mexico.gov/NE_MapaNog.htm

By the Way, we have a near legend in our midst!!!

I did a google search for map nogales and the fourth one listed was our very own Mr. Bill.

Take a bow my young friend.

BTW, I'm going down late Monday night.

Well, I have a date with my favorita near the end of October. Was going to bring the RV across, but I have yet to find a place to park it on that side of the border (with me in it) let alone find a place where I could leave it for a few hours at night.

Thusly, I'm going to rent something at Plaza nogales. I'll try and take a few pix and get a better description, and will post what I find there.

Well, I finally cut loose from work during the daytime and drove deep into Nogieland to check out Plaza Nogales.

It was worth the five hour roundtrip.

First about the hotel. It is lovely. It is also larger than I expected. You drive up a large drive (with a huge sign in front) and there is plenty of good parking and a place where you can drive up and park while registering.

There is a main building that has registration, a small store, a bar and a restaurant. I checked out the rest rooms in the lobby and, by and standard you wish to apply, they were immaculate and clean-smelling.

I approached the front desk and asked the young lady if I could see a Master Suite. She gestured that I should wait, and I saw her make a call on the two-way radio. I wasn't sure if it was because she didn't speak any English or becuse she was smart enough not to go into a room with me!

After about 5 minutes (she looked worried the entire time) a guy in a guard uniform (Martin) came up and said he would take me upstairs.

Upstairs is a misnomer, it is really the two large buildings in back and further up the hill. He was under the impression that I was considering spending the night, but I explained that I was checking it out for a future trip.

Occupancy was very, very low, and they were conserving by keeping the lights dim, so he flipped on lights as we went to the room. Everyplace was clean, very clean. He opened the door to the suite and let me in. It was nice, consisting of two rooms, with a sofa bed in one and a king bed in the other. The room also had a jacuzzi tub.

It looked real good, as good as or better than any mid-range hotel in the states, and definitely better than the typical Motel 6/Hotel 8 type of discount hotel.

A standard single room is P600, a double is P650, a Master suite is P880. The hotel uses 10:1 on exchange when figuring out room rates,so the math is simple. They also have a presidential suite for around P1200, but I didn't check that out.

OK, getting there is a bit of a trip. It is 6.5 kilometers due south of the border. Just head south and keep going straight.

You will see a Burger King and a McDonalds (the real things!). Keep going.

At some point you will go under an overhead crosswalk, and you are getting close. You will see a large rail yard on the left (with a 2-6-0 steam engine on display). Keep going!

Then you will go up a slight grade and the hotel is on the right hand side, and it is impossible to miss, thanks to the large sign.

BTW,. once you get a kilometer or so south of the broder, Nogales cleans up well. The streets are wider, and in better condition. There is less trash blowing around. There is less obvious poverty. There are no touts running around.

I felt totally at ease down by the hotel, and will be staying there at the end of the month with my novia.

humbly submitted,
diabetic

By Diabetic on Sunday, October 13, 2002 - 04:14 pm:  Edit

Definitely. Yum Yum!

Spent Saturday night at Plaza Nogales. Got the Master Suite for $88. It was 2 rooms with a king bed in one of them. We won't be going back. The only positive thing about it was the tub for 2. Could list alot of bad things about it, but the big one was the room was about 50 degrees. Fucking FREEZING!! The heating system in the room was useless.

In most hotels in Nogie the heating is bad. The easist thing to do is just bring along a small electric heater in your overnight bag
