I traveled to Veracruz for ten days and Mexico city for four days in July of 2006. During my trip to the DF I went to Teotihuacan to visit the pyramids.
If you are traveling from Mexico city, take the Metro yellow line to the 'Autobuses del Norte' stop and upon entering the bus station go to the left and between the 7th and 8th ticket counters you will find the 'Linea Autobuses Mexico San Juan Teotihuacan' counter and make sure that you either say 'Las Piramides' or 'La Zona Arqueologica' and for 27 pesos you will buy a ticket to Teotihuacan and get there in about an hour.
Then you will have to buy a ticket to enter the 'zona arqueologica' for 45 pesos and then you will walk down the 'Calzada de los muertos/Avenue of the dead'.
You will have to climb up and down several steps down the calzada just to get to the 'Pyramid of the Sun' which will eventually be on the right. There are various ruins of palaces to the left and right along the avenue.
The Pyramid of the Sun is the third largest pyramid volumetrically in the world. It is 70 meters high and 222 meters on all four sides at the base. The climb to the top involves climbing up 248 steps and is equivalent to climbing up 20 flights of stairs. Keep in mind that Teotihuacan is about 7,000 ft. in elevation so no matter how strong your legs are, the oxygen factor comes into the equation.
I made it but I prepared for it by shooting basketball every day for 30 minutes for two weeks before my vacation. Also, I walked between 6 to 12 miles every day in Veracruz for 10 days prior to my trip to Teotihuacan.
To reach the top is an exhilarating experience. There is a certain grandeur and splendor to both the pyramids of the sun and the moon. The Aztecs came on the scene between the 14th and 16th centuries and they thought that either a race of giants had created the pyramids or the gods had made them. Both pyramids were built at the time of Christ so there was at least a thousand years before the Aztecs called Teotihuacan their home. Hell, I don't even know who owns Adelitas' so it makes perfect sense to me.
I hung out here for about 4 hours as I loved the ambience though the vendors are the most persistent that I have ever seen. If you buy anything be sure and check it out for any imperfections as I bought some artifacts that had some cracks on them. The shyster had exchanged them for damaged goods on me.
There are three locations that you can catch the returning bus. You buy the return ticket on board and make sure you have the exact change. I will try to post some photos of this very impressive ancient site.
The three biggest pyramids volumetrically in the world are: number one is the great pyramid of Cholula, Mexico (Tepanapa) and number two is Keops in Egypt and number three is the Pyramid of the Sun.
I also traveled to Tepanapa three years ago and it is worth the journey.

I am also very interested in Mexican history and archeology. I envy you for being able to make the journey. But I was just wondering, since, this is a mongering website, what does this have to do with pussy?
