I am considering relocating to San Antonio because of many reasons which include leaving the 1-hour commute of the over-populated city I am currently in. Is there someone who might be able to answer some of my questions regarding San Antonio such as what parts of the city are good to live in, and not good to live in, and the availability of employment for professionals? If anyone might be able to help me, e-mail me at 1981Niners@go.com

ahah! ahahahhahaha! Let me Catch My Breath!
I was stationed in San Antonio in 1981 when the Niner's ruled! My first near exposure to STDs was when one young airman, a bud of mine went down town and picked up the nasty clap. Inside of a week, most of us (myself excluded) had the burning yearning. I will say this, however, I never heard about anyone getting burnt at Nuevo Laredo.
Here's my advice: First, stay the fuck out of that God forsaken shit hole in the center of the desert called Texas. Second, grab a flight down South on Wednesday and join some of us fellow Northerners for a little "West an' Wewaxation" (huh huh huh!)

Shadow,
Thanks for the advice although seeing how miserable I already am where I live I doubt I will follow it. I will probably take the chance that the grass is greener on the otherside, even if there is no grass there.
I would love to make the flight on wednesday but seeing I am not a wealthy businessman nor a lotto winner its not in my budget.
But I wish luck on your journey and happy hunting my friend.

Hey, Shadow, haven't you evere heard the saying about glass houses and throwing stones? I don't think anyone living in the SF bay area should call San Antonio a shithole.

Been here, been there
Done this, done that!
Where were you yesterday?

Could not make it, had too much to do. Wanted to, though, as a couple of other friends were also going down.

San Antonio is not a bad place to live and work. I have friends there that I visit when I do a sales call in the area. I have not been over the border for some time, I save my $ for TJ.

Rookie, San Antonio is nice. the best area would be considered the North Side. The Alamo heights section of town is nice. Also, the Linkoln heights section is nice also. lots of awesome strip clubs that let you get away with almost anything.LOL. downtown is nice, lots of cool bars by the riverwalk, the Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood, many concert venues, and your close to Boystown!!!

I want to know if there are any places that welcome mongers in San Antonio. I heard the the "Taxi Dancing" place was nice but it got busted. Other than PT's and The Palace are there any spots where a guy can get some safe satisfaction?

Rookie - Alamo Heights is the nicest area in S.A. There are also many areas to the west of the city (smaller towns) in the Texas Hill Country that are slower paced but enjoyable. I live in Austin (and lived in NorCal; left to escape my 3 hour daily SF commute) - Shadow sounds like a pretty ignorant ex-flyboy.
The S.A./Austin area has some areas that rival Northern California in beauty. Not sure what your profession is but the biomed and tech industries are doing well there (many Austin VC's are funding new companies down there). Hope this helps...

Agentx,
I appreciate the information, it will definitely come in handy. I have some things to finish up but I'll be making plans to move there in December. Sounds like North S.A. is the best place so at least I know where to search for an apartment. I'm an accountant so finding a job shouldn't be too hard as long as there are some companies located in S.A. which I figure is a given for a city that size. Plus traffic has to be better than in Atlanta.

How far is San Ant from Nuevo Laredo?
By Rookie on Saturday, February 16, 2002 - 12:11 pm: Edit |
Hey Fellow Mongers,
Seems like I finally got my shit together. I'm going to San Antonio on the 21st of February to hand out some resumes and look at some living accomodations before I relocate in the next few weeks. Anyways, my point being I'm definitely making a run to the border and no, I don't mean Taco Bell, so if any of you are going down to BT either Thurs, Friday, or Saturday send me an e-mail if you want to meet up for a beer in BT. Not sure if I'll go Thursday night but Fri and Sat are almost certain. BTW, anyone know if you can take rental cars passed the border and does anyone have street directions from the border to BT?
Much Appreciated. Happy Hunting,

I'll be there ROokie. It's possible Beavis will too. It shouldn't be a problem with a rental. When I was living inn Juarez, before I transporter my personal vehicle there, I used a rental car and never had any hassles. Directions to Boystown: Bridge 1 is closed for the next month. Take bridge 2, end of the freeway. When you enter Mexico, go south until you find a one way street going west. Make a right and take it over to Calle Juarez. That is one block past the main drag of Guerrero. Turn right on Juarez and follow to dead end. that will put you looking at the border station. Turn right and follow that street, Lara, for about 5 miles. YOu will come to Anahuac. Turn right and go about 1 mile. YOu will come to a street with a PEMEX station directly ahead of you. Turn right. Go down half the block and you will see the entrance to BT on your right. I'll be there Thur-Sat if you want to hook up with me and my GF. She has some real lookers she knows at one of the clubs in the zona! E-mail me for a ohine number!

I visit San Antonio a couple times a year and have enjoyed some escort encounters there. Is the trip to Nuevo Laredo really worth the drive? What about for someone whose spanish classes ended in high school?

I used to live in san antonio and left because of the lack of good jobs, it was a cheap and nice town to live in. 1 of the few big cites in the usa with a small town feel to it and very nice people(in total contrast to the very rude people of south florida)Austin has a lot of good jobs unlike san antonio although traffic sucks there. for jobs in san antonio goto
